View Full Version : 30 Days of Night
NEKRO138 31-10-2007, 23:11 Having followed the comics for a while, I thought I'd spend my Halloween evening watching 30 Days of Night at the cinema. Glad I did. Anyone who likes the comics or vampire films in general should go and see it. Very brutal in some parts.
we're off tonight to see it.
got to be better than Saw IV
Beakerzoid 01-11-2007, 07:51 I was disappointed. The film was just about above average, but wasn't a patch on the comics that spawned it. The characters seems more 3 dimensional on the pages than the wooden efforts on screen - and I couldn't care less about who died and who survived. Lacked tension, and the lead vampire looks like he just stepped out of the Pet Shop Boys 'West End Girls' video.
Ben Foster was damned good (as usual) though, and some of the effects were nice and bloody. Just, overall, it could have been so much better.

I think to make the vampires look more like the comic books, they'd have had to used CGI. The look of the comic would be very difficult to recreate. I love the comics, but I thought this was a very fair effort.
Lets put it this way - I expected far, far less. And I actually was deliberating if the lead vampire was from the Pet Shop Boys. I'm going to check now, the likeness was that striking.

I am tempted as well, and I hardly ever see films twice!

Whereas I expected something better from the same director of Hard Candy - something which was tense, and powerfully played. The look of the vamps was different enough (the messed up faces was quite a nice bit of stylising - although the bald one looked like the bloke who shows people new properties on some ITV show). You can tell that Slade (the director) has worked with Aphex Twin in the past.
No, it wasn't the guy from Pet Shop Boys (Neil Tennant) playing the lead vamp - it just seemed to be modelled on him.
richardx 01-11-2007, 17:49 I want see it
i've seen it and very good it is too.
so is Mr Brooke's btw.
magicaljen 01-11-2007, 20:09 Hopefully seeing this as weekend as have heard some good things about it! And has Josh Hartnett in it...
and to ^^willman, I really enjoyed Mr Brooks too! Good film :)
Beakerzoid 01-11-2007, 21:59 I third the Mr Brooks thumbs up.... although I did get the feeling someone had read Darkly Dreaming Dexter and thought "Hey...I can rip that off!" Meh, who cares when the end result is so good!
