Caught up with a friend in the pub the other night, and noticed a big bruise up the side of his head, when I asked how he got it I was amazed to hear that he'd been attacked and beaten to the ground for no reason at all, on Sheldon Road on Saturday night/small hours sunday morning.
He'd been at a party and had a few drinks, and of course wasn't expecting any trouble, so was taken completely by suprise, and details are sketchy - he said one guy in front of him attracted his attention while another came up behind and attacked.
They didn't say anything, or try to rob him, just beat him up - he had to go to A & E, no major injuries but lots of pain and bruises. When he reported it to the police they said they'd had several reports of similar attacks around that area recently, same M.O. I lived round there for 7 years, and never saw any trouble, the past year i've lived just round the corner, and have always considered the area to be friendly and safe, even late at night.
Anyone have any more info? Let's be careful out there.

I lived there 4 years ago. One night a gang of kids (15 or 16 year olds) threw a few milk bottles at us & hit one of us over the head with an iron bar.

We knew who they were, but the police said they couldn't really do anything.

I'd live there again, but I was a bit wary after that.

i have been jumped by 10-15 asians youths there, around 4 years ago for being white. i ran like roadrunner, so they just threw fireworks at me.

exactly the same thing happened to me, just for being white. Utter disgrace. This was outside Cafe 9, i also ran like roadrunner, and fortunatly got away with it.
It makes it hard to be unprejudice at times, especially in nether edge where the asian community is quite high.

Exactly. Let's reverse the roles just for a minute (white "gang" vs one asian youth), in no time at all you would be branded a member of the BNP, arrested and charged with a hate crime and sent down for 5 years. However, there is no favoritism when it comes to racial attacks. :rolleyes:

i know white people in the area wishing to move because of the racism.

I also know its a minority of the asian community that act like that.

How relevant is that statement? No one here is defending these youths, so why are you upping the anti?

If you're black, you're still far more likely to be the victim of a racially motivated assault than if you're white. Most of these assaults (just like the one above) go unreported or unsolved, it's not right, but there is no favouritism when it comes to how racially motivated attacks are dealt with.

This is bourne out by a friend of ours (Asian) who moved because of the aggro she was getting from other Asians. Yoofs are yoofs it would seem.

used to live on sheldon myself n was attacted at about 2 in the mornin by 4 asian guys. it ended up been a week in hospital with concusion n 2 stab wounds!! one to the arm pit that punched me lung n one to the ASS! of all places???

Well im sorry mate, but in Nether Edge, its usually the asians causing the majority of the trouble. Im not saying white youths arent to blame at all for the trouble, but its from my experience.

Darnall isnt a slum.There some nice places in Darnall. i have lived in darnall for most of my life and there are worse places to live.

Don't really get your point, if an attack on someone of a different race is because of their race then it's a racist attack, whatever their colour.

That doesn't mean to say that all attacks on someone of a different race are racially motivated though.

Same thing happened to me, so I watched, and I waited. Once the guy who'd called me a "Whiet C*nt" was on his own I ran over and had it out with him. I've never seen anyone drop to their knees so fast... "Sorry M8 sorry m8, didn't mean it, I thought you were someone else", his hands were in the air like he's praying to god!

Unfortunatly yes, it seems to be the case where i live.
Like i say, i dont see everything, but what i do see is the vast majority of trouble makers to be Asian. Its hard not to sound racist, its just an observation.
