I've just read this article about a dead child's organs being removed without the need to get anyone's permission:

Organs (http://www.ananova.com/news/story/sm_816405.html?menu=)

It appears that the law in Spain allows for the removal of organs for transplants without the need to ask anyone's permission. Do you think we should change the law here in an attempt to save more lives?

IMO if you're dead you're not going to miss them.

Beside the point.
They are your Children and no one messes with there body parts unless the parents say so.
There is no excuse.
If i wanted mine or my familys parts used i would give permission.
There would be blood shed if i found out i had been decieved by anyone using my familys parts.

I agree with CR, I want the right to choose.
I am on the organ donation list... the only thing they cannot have are my eyes.

Call it a spirtual thing or whatever... my eyes are mine! Dead or Alive.

No I dont think Dr's should be allowed to take what they want when you're dead.

After you die, you no longer exist (in this world at least). What is left is surplus meat.

There should be an opt out system. If you don't want your death to save the life of another, then you should carry a card and be on a register.

I don't believe it should be compulsory, because that would be an infringement of people's freedom of religious and spiritual belief.

I just think of all the kids on dialysis who could really benefit from a kidney that I no longer need, on account of a fatal brain haemorrhage. My lungs aren't much good mind.

In the same vein, I will be leaving my body for student anatomists to play with.

I think the donor card scheme should be modified. When you die your organs can be used for others unless you carry the card stating otherwise.

How many people out there would give permission to have their organs used but haven't bothered filling in a card?

It is a sad waste that useful human organs are left to rot or are burnt when they could give someone else a chance.

I'm all for donating your parts if that is what you want and a register of people who do not wish to donate there body parts is a good idea as long as people are aware that this list exists.
What i got ruffled about is illegally taking body parts without permission. That won't do and should be stopped.

The university will only take your corpse if your main organs are in good order, my in-laws have donated themselves to the uni but Mr inlaw is in bad condition and is unlikely to be exepted.
Best to keep the insurance policy going just in case.

It is not right to remove anyones bodyparts without permission,
as that is butchery at its very worst. The Spanish law should apply only to their own people because obviously it is their choice, but they do not have the right to impose it on anyone else.

For myself, I would have to think long and hard about giving permission to have my own bodyparts removed, I don't think my organs would be any use to others anyway, as they will be worn out when I have finished with them.
