Anyone remember Apple ST, Stancer ST? they stood where Jewsons yard is on Mowbray Street, you can still see the kerb edges and cobbles.
My dad and his family came from there, and he tells me many times about all the houses and streets and the people who lived in them, he moved with his mother and brothers to what was calle the Pheasant yard just a few streets away, (this was their first house as they lived with his Mothers parents on stancer street) called Cooper.

I'd like to hear from anyone who lived there as it was so long ago there will be few left.

Hello Hutch,

Frank and Annie Cooper were my great grandparents on my Dad's side.

He has recently told me about the shop, he says it was just a house with certain items in the window, mainly sweets and cigs,

would you remember my dad at all, Ron?

Apple St used to be Orchard St.
There were 4 Orchard streets so the names were changed.
All except the one downtown.
My G.G Grandfather came from Ireland and lived at 14 Orchard (Apple ) St in 1861.
Look up Harvest Lane on 'Picture Sheffield ' it also shows Apple St 1920 &1930

my dads dad was called Harry Stephen Bell, my dad would never speak about his childhood or family so i think there may be a story there. i wonder if my grandad (Harry) was the son of your great grandad and that's why he called my dad William

i'm guessing that if your great grandfather was his dad he may have been born on Apple Street, i would like to trace my family tree some time, like i said my father was very evasive regarding his childhood and family. my grandad (Harry) died around 1953 so it's possible he was the son of William Howard

I have a connection with Apple Street too, my 3x Great Gran lived at Court 8 in 1875 and was her address given on her death certificate.

She was Charlotte Searle nee Cloney, her husband was John Searle and they had a China and glass shop on Parkwood Road, numerous children too.

I've ordered a print of Apple St from the Library it looks a pretty desperate place, is there any description of the area?

my mum lived at no20 in 1931 when she married my dad, she talked a lot about Apple St but i never heard the names Seare or Cloney,1875 was 36 years before my mum was born so they may have moved by then. i too have a print from the library and it does look pretty grim

Aye I was a bit suprised when I saw the print as I thought they'd have had a bit of cash with them owning a China and glass shop. It looked very harsh. Charlotte died at that address but her husband John Searle died a couple of years later at Neville Street anyone know where that was?

Hello,
I am researching my husband's family tree and Henry Richardson lived in Apple street and was a Hawker earthenware per 1901 census and lived with Annie Richardson originally a Brennan. I have been trying to find his birth with no joy. Per marriage certificate Henry was born about 1880. 10 years on in the census Henry was 27 yrs old! I wonder if George and Henry were related. Are you able to help at all as at the moment I am at a dead end?
Thanks
