View Full Version : People who don't move their dogs mess
alex3659 30-10-2007, 19:24 when we take our dog out we always take some bags to clear any mess it may leave , i even take extra ones for if i see any other owners who dont move thier dogs mess and i confront them . however we have a couple of owners where we live who just leave it where it lies ,eg on my path or front lawn . i think these people should not be allowed to have dogs ,what do you think ?.
A few fines for littering would make them think twice about not following their dog with a poo bag. It's not that hard to do and costs only about a penny per bag.
what area do you live in they should be named and shamed or have the dog owners nose rubbed init
We don't do naming and shaming on here though spikey. Of course it doesn't mean that you can't take photos of the offending dogs and dog owners and stick them up on local lamp posts though, does it?;)
LitleMermaid 30-10-2007, 19:48 It's gross!
I don't have my own dog-my circumstances at the moment would mean it woudn't be fair on the dog, and I'm not allowed them in my flat anyway.
But I regularly dog sit for family members and steal friend's dogs for the day-I would NEVER leave mess that a dog in my charge had made-there's no need for it, yes it's unpleasant picking the poo up in a bag, but that's all part of the responsibility of owning a dog. Once I'd gone out without any bags by mistake-but we just bought some from the Sainsburys nearby and went back and picked it up-I hate cleaning my cat's litter trays out with an absolute passion-but it's something that's got to be done isn't it? I get so so so angry when I see dog mess all over parks and nice fields-and especially in areas where children might go to play.
take some pics of the offenders and there dogs then get in touch with the greenwatch ranger team. http://www.sheffield.gov.uk/index.asp?pgid=19318&mtype=print

The thing that's so upsetting to many dog owners is that most of them DO clear up after their dogs.
laughalot01 30-10-2007, 20:22 i always pick my dogs mess up an even take extra bags incase goes on a spree :hihi:but what gets me mad is when horses do it an come on guys it aint small when they do it but there owners dont clear it up although would need carrier bag not poo bag:hihi:

im sad to say thats not the case where i live:(
frostiekazza 30-10-2007, 21:51 You dont even have to put your hand in a bag to pick it up !!!! We bought a little device (?) where you put the bag into sort of a little plastic mouth (only way i can describe it LOL) then you place it over the poo then close the jaws over it , then you just tie the handles together and hey presto , poo picked up and your hands never go near it . It only cost about 2 quid as well ! .
It only takes 2 seconds to pick poo up, theres no excuse not to really !!!
Plain Talker 30-10-2007, 21:54 I never take my dog out without a pocketful of "scoopy-bags".
If I can clean up my dog's poo, as a wheelchair user, I'm damn sure that these idle trolley-mogs that leave their dogs mess, could clean up after themselves.

Lollipop22 30-10-2007, 21:58 there's no excuse for it, i confront people if i see them doing it, i always clean up after my dog and you should see the size of her poo's lol

I also have one of those as I can't stand to put my hands anywhere near it! We got ours from Jolleys, but I would imagine you can get it from Pets At Home too. It's this (http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/Pedigree-Exelpet-Easi-Scoop-Easy-to-use-poop-a-scoop_W0QQitemZ120176169811QQihZ002QQcategoryZ1283 QQssPageNameZWDVWQQrdZ1QQcmdZViewItem) but comes in a set with some bags.
We always pick our dogs mess up but as she's a bitch and squats to wee, we usually get random people on the street shouting abuse at us and wrongly assuming we've let her poo and are just leaving it there. There's no excuse for not picking it up, it's all part and parcel of owning a dog.
BorderReiver 30-10-2007, 22:40 Why can dog owners be fined for their dogs cr@pping all over the place but cats are seemingly allowed by law to cr@p wherever they please with impunity :gag:
Cat owners are totally irresponsible, putting their vermin out at night to foul every-ones garden
Claire B 30-10-2007, 22:52 We have a problem in our area with several dogs fouling the footpath. The problem is that they come out with the dogs after the wardens have finished working.
"BorderReiver"
Calling cats "vermin" is just being small minded, as usual someone mentions an issue regarding dogs and this old chestnut comes up.
The law states that if an "Animal" Fouls on the footpath and you dont take action to clear it up you may be fined. If a Dog fouls in someone elses garden there is nothing the Law can do about it, you must secure your own property to prevent this from happening. The same goes for cats.
The worst thing about the law regarding Dogs and cats is that if i hit a dog with my car i "MUST" report it to the police, shame it isnt the same for cats.

Why bother?
Hand inside one carrier bag, pick up the Richard, drop it and the bag into another carrier. Knot it, drop it in the bin when you get home.
Don't, however, do as I did a few weeks ago - put the wrong bin out on the wrong day!
Four weeks to wait for emptying....and you should've seen the "fisherman's friends" in there!

That's because most cats usually dig a hole and bury there poo, but unfortunately some cat owners don't train them to do that and ... don't supply the moggie with a shovel. :hihi:

You really are something aren't you? But you're seventeen, so I guess one needs to make allowances.
Dog **** is thoroughly unpleasant and can carry the worm that leads to toxicariasis - a condition that can lead to meningitis, encephalitis, epilepsy and blindness.

I realise what you are saying, but there is a big difference between dog mess and horse mess. Horse manure does not pose a risk to human health, unlike dog and cat manure that can contain organisms that cause human health problems. Horse manure can be used as a fertiliser in your garden. Owing to the potential problems as above, the use of Dog manure on your spuds would not be recommended!:nono:
nosey gets 30-10-2007, 23:34 we had a guy only last week let his dog crap on our front, he looked round to see if anyone had seen and started to walk away. well, my boyfriend had seen him, banged on the window and told him to pick it up,with a few choice words after. its disgusting. we have a pooch and take doggy bags with us when walking him, granted its not very nice to have to clear it up but its not nice when you have to clean it of your kids shoes either.:rant:
I`ll own up and say I just leave it, If people walk past after my dogs` done their business, Ill pretend to pick it up, but as soon as they are past Ill just walk off. Bad. I know but Im not carry dog **** around and taking it into the shops.

Then you are a pig, and a foul, thoroughly unpleasant, idle pig at that.
Why should folk have to put up with your dog's mess being trampled into their house, or your dog's mess potentially passing on toxocara, with the risk of blindness, infection tetanus, and god-all knows what?
So you don't give a monkeys that some kid could be blinded, just because you can't be bothered to pick up after your dog? Shame on you.
What if it were a child of yours blinded, for the sake of an idle pig like you, leaving their dog poo on the street?
What's up with picking it up, and dropping the scooped-poop into the nearest bin? No-one's expecting you to carry the poo around for the next twelve-month, or to the shop. (Surely to god the parade of shops has a bin nearby?)
I presume you haven't got any disability, apart from your terminal idle-itis?
If I can pick up after my dog, when I use a wheelchair, an idle pig like you can surely pick up after your dog.
Plain Talker 30-10-2007, 23:50 Another pointless law, it dosent do anyone any harm and biodegrades eventually, the wonders of nature.

oh, right...
is that before or after it gets trodden into the house, or leads to some kid being blinded?

Thats a completely crap attitude. Its tossers like you that give responsible dog owners a bad name.

Not a disibility as such, but I do have a bad back from time to time.
Anyway panda - what's your view? Is leaving dog**** all over the place reasonable behaviour?
Godzilla 31-10-2007, 00:30 My dogs tend to prefer to empty themselves in undergrowth, and I don't feel the need to pick it up - it will biodegrade in a couple of days. But, if they were to have an accident on the pavement or on a designated path, I'd make sure I picked it up or moved it aside with a stick. At the moment, someone on our road, a new resident I think, has allowed their dogs to foul the footpath on more than one occasion. It's annoying, as my neighbours may think my dogs are to blame. If I catch them in the act, I'll say something. On a more positive note, a family who live just up the road from me have two spaniels. They have two young children who take the spaniels a walk each day; from an early age these children have always 'picked up' after their pets. I commend the parents of these kids for instilling a responsible attitude from the outset.
Anyway panda - what's your view? Is leaving dog**** all over the place reasonable behaviour?
ive better things to worry about than dog poo trust me

You dont need to , just put your hand inside a strong bag, pick the poo up and flip the bag inside out job done.
while I do pick up after my dog - I can understand the reasoning behind the decomposing argument.... it has led me to wonder about the amount of carrier bags in the future... on land fill sites/tips filled with decomposed dog poo....but which themselves won't for decades
So does anyone know where you can you get poo bags which decompose? and if so from where and how much... ? I haven't seen any :(

still not nice to find big dolpes off horse crap around
still not nice to find big dolpes off horse crap around
I don't mind at at all. It doesn't smell bad, it doesn't make anyone ill, it cleans of easily if you step in it and it's good for the garden.
Dog crap - smells bloody awful, terrible to get off shoes, carries disease, no use to anyone.
laughalot01 31-10-2007, 09:29 it is still mess at the end of the day whether its dog mess or horse mess any type of mess not nice on the paths an stuff just because its easier to clean off dosnt mean its ok
frostiekazza 31-10-2007, 11:00 Where can my wife buy one of these ?
Hiya Tarquin
I got my poo-picker-upper from the pet shop in the market at Crystal Peaks . You get about 10 poop bags as well with it .
They do prob sell them at pets at home , they seem to sell everthing else doggy , but ive not seen them and ive been to that section for poop bags .
it biodegrades?
oh, right...
is that before or after it gets trodden into the house, or leads to some kid being blinded?
Why would a kid smear it in its eyes? :suspect:

I've just looked into this myself and thought that it was a good idea to get biodegradable poo bags, but my sister (who is the font of all knowledge on waste since she's a waste processing engineer and is director of a company that makes industrial composters) has highlighted a little bit of law to me.
The contents of all dog poo bins are sent for incineration, so it makes very little difference whether your bags are biodegradable or not. Most bags available on the market are composed of long chain hydrocarbons and as such there isn't a problem with incineration.
What makes a difference is when you intend to compost your dog waste yourself. There are biodegradable bags, but the term biodegradable really only means that the bags break down in a composter or landfill in tens of years rather than thousands (like standard bags).
If you're looking to be able to compost your dog waste then you need compostable bags, and the only supplier of them that I know of at the moment is Biobag. I don't have the space for a composter so it's not something that I can participate with (if I removed the little bit of garden that I have in order to instal a composter then I'd have little or no green waste to put in it!).
Why would a kid smear it in its eyes? :suspect:
Kid touches poo. Kid touches eyes. Simple as that.
RiffRaff 31-10-2007, 12:08 You dont need to , just put your hand inside a strong bag, pick the poo up and flip the bag inside out job done.

So do I but it doesnt prevent me from clearing up after my dog. You're giving us responsible dog owners a bad name when we get enough grief from non dog-lovers as it is. It's sheer idleness not to clear up after your dog.
Kid touches poo. Kid touches eyes. Simple as that.
I think a kid would immediatley know what it was when stumbled upon. Ive never heard of a kid playing with dog poop then using it as warpaint.

Then you've never been around small children- they reach for hot irons, boiling kettles, sharp knives and heavy things to pull on themselves as well as not worrying about the 'mud' they've just put their hand in.
theripsaw 31-10-2007, 12:26 I sometimes walk a friends dog as a favour. I cant bring myself to pick up its poo so I take it to the countryside where i reckon its acceptable to not pick it up
I work near Devonshire Green and frequently see people letting their dogs poo on the grass and not clear it up ..... just where someone might choose to sit the following day. The culprit is usually some neanderthal with a semi- dangerous or dangerous dog. Yuk!
It's an easy thing to solve. Train your dog to use your own garden then dispose of it correctly. My little dog will not poo on his lead or in public or even in front of me.
It's his business and it's private.
I just take a bag full of stones to make people think I've cleaned my dogs poo up - Sorry!
Plain Talker 31-10-2007, 17:09 Why would a kid smear it in its eyes? :suspect:
please... us a bit of common sense, and google "toxocara", spruce.
like here
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Toxocariasis
or here
http://www.bmj.com/cgi/content/full/309/6946/5
for a start.
the poo doesn't have to touch the child's eye to cause the blindness, it simply has to enter the body, either by the child having a cut, or even unknowingly, touching ground or grass where the poo has been, and the worm remains behind, then putting their hands to their mouth, as children are wont to do.
As you can see from the articles, it's incredibly nasty. I know I would not want to expose a child to the risks of toxocariasis. Just one of the reasons why you should be a responsible owner and clean up after your dog.
pinnacle 31-10-2007, 17:53 I always pick my dogs cr@p up.
Not doing is about as filthy as it gets.
No argument.
lauren84 31-10-2007, 21:36 All three dogs that my parents have owned over the past 25 years have only 'done their business' in the privacy of the back garden! :hihi: Walks were for sniffing lamp posts etc.
A couple of doggy doo complaints from my family:-
1) When my sis was 3ish she ran ahead of my mum, tripped and ended up covered in it!
2) My dad got so mad one day when a bag of dog c**p came flying over the fence from the path behind the garden and landed on the gazebo.
Where can my wife buy one of these ?
Please say that's a joke!
You've evidently had no connection to young children at all. Kids do daft things.
And yes, I have.
Thats ok...:loopy:, I tend not to leave things in a small childs reach.
Then you've never been around small children- they reach for hot irons, boiling kettles, sharp knives and heavy things to pull on themselves as well as not worrying about the 'mud' they've just put their hand in.
As above. Kids are too wrapped up in cotton wool these days, let them learn themselves. No wonder this country is turning into a population of melts.
This is my pet hate. I have & a dog & always clear up after him. Not the most pleasant job but I still do it.
Have some of the people on here got kids or any common sense at all??? Kids stand in it & walk it into the house, the car in fact anywhere. The younger ones don't realise its dog poo & if it goes anywhere near their hands it will eventually go in their mouths.
Near here there is a large patch of grass where kids play & some lazy people actually take there dogs there for a crap. There is a huge patch of wasteland round the corner where at least it wouldnt pose such a health hazard but some people are too lazy to even walk an extra 100 yards.
Leaving dog crap lying about is absolutely disgraceful. If you can't clear up you aren't fit to have a dog.
Why is this thread coming down to kids? Are teenagers, adults and the elderly immune to it? Hell I stood in dog turd 3 days back, not pleasant I must say, but I dont pick it up, so I cant winge.
Poor show at trying to tug at heartstrings.
Why is this thread coming down to kids? Are teenagers, adults and the elderly immune to it?
Poor show at trying to tug at heartstrings.
There are few others at risk as much as small children and few groups as deserving of our protection.
Now, how about a more sensible opinion on another thread?

Show me a sensible thread on here where people keep on topic and dont start bawling their eyes out (apart from fun @ games).....unbelievable. Ive owned up to not cleaning dog **** up, and I still wont. If it makes you feel better, "Yes I pick it up and cleanly chuck it in the bins available" Garbage.
Grandad.Malky 31-10-2007, 22:02 Poor show at trying to tug at heartstrings.
Could that be because older children and adults are aware of the dangers/ hygiene issues.
lauren84 31-10-2007, 22:18 Some appear proud to admit they do not clear their dog's mess up!
Jillybabes 31-10-2007, 22:22 Do not get me started on this one, I always clean up after my dog and so should everyone. Some people think oh thats disgusting but its more disgusting to leave it there for someone to stand in or for a kid who doesnt know any better to touch or another dog to eat it, cos they do, it doesnt take anything to clean it up, take some nappy bags or whatever and just do your bit for the environment, isnt it better to live in a nice clean world than one covered in poo!!
Some appear proud to admit they do not clear their dog's mess up!
Just honest, hence a `forum` It would be boring if it was all one-way traffic. Shame others don't have the balls to admit on this and other threads to things that others perceive as wrong.
bernthefirs 31-10-2007, 23:02 Follow the owners home and put the mess through their letter box.
You are a disgrace Spruce!!! Its a good job most dog owners are responsible.
I'm a dog owner and yes do pick it up when needed. Honest to god hearing some of you froth at the mouth over this subject is a joke. Of course its an issue in town but have i heard of any kids going blind going near dog ****? The risk is prob the same as getting that mad cow thingy. One in a million.
When i take my dog into the peak district and he decides to go for a number two in the woods do i pick that up? Nope i leave the smelly thing alone as the only thing that will be harming is a Hiker's new pair of Timberlands :hihi:.
Really makes me wonder what sort of people come on here getting all hot and bothered over this. Why not devote your frustration to 'real crime' that has become marginalised under this Nanny state of New Labour. Instead the Dog Walker like the motorist gets the brunt. :gag:
pinnacle 01-11-2007, 08:51 Thats ok...:loopy:, I tend not to leave things in a small childs reach.
Your quite possibly the most ignorant person i've ever had the misfortune to come across.
Your attitude stinks as much as the subject in question.....:suspect:
I don't pick it up all of the time. there's honesty for you.
if its in a par, field or public footpath i'll instantly pick it up, in fact i'm that quick the dog hasn't finished half the time.
but if i'm in the woods or in the wilderness it can degrade all on it's own. the dog poo has more chance of degrading naturally than man made plastic bag - fo rwhich there are no depositories in the woods.
when we take our dog out we always take some bags to clear any mess it may leave , i even take extra ones for if i see any other owners who dont move thier dogs mess and i confront them . however we have a couple of owners where we live who just leave it where it lies ,eg on my path or front lawn . i think these people should not be allowed to have dogs ,what do you think ?.
Completely agree.

This is also very true, but some people are just irresponsible filthy people who leave it all the time.
alex3659 01-11-2007, 11:59 just walked down my path and a big pile of dog crap is there and some one has stood in it . wish i had seen whose dog it was it would be on their path now .
you could also look at it from my perspective. we rent some grazing land which has a public access through it. i installed a kissing gate, at my expense and time for easy access 'cos they kept trashing the stiles.
now every day umpteen people think they have the right to exercise their dogs in my horses paddock, and not one person ever cleans it up.
theire excuse the piles of horse muck are bigger - some people just don't get it about manners and respect imho.

You`ve never come across me, so thats a pointless post.
honestjoe69 01-11-2007, 15:46 This is my view on the subject.
There is nothing worse than standing in dog poo. It is disgusting in everyway and I personally think it can be quite upsetting. (my friend was on his way to get married and somebody let a dog crap on his lawn which he didn't see - the results were not pleasant).
So, I do believe that people should pick up their dog mess.
However, I feel it is wrong to turn this issue from 'doing the right thing and picking up your dog mess' to 'children could become seriously ill and die if you allow your dog to mess everywhere'. Can't people see this is the sort of nanny state rubbish that is ruining our country?
I have spoken to my sister (who is a doctor who works at the Royal Hallamshire) to do a little research for me. Apparently, within the UK, more children have become seriously injured / died through being attacked by a donkies IN THE LAST YEAR than any disease associated my dog mess in the last TEN YEARS. So based on peoples reaction here, you should not let children go near donkeys because statistically they are very likely to get injured!
According to my sister, the number of cases of children becoming infected because of dog mess has not raised or fallen since this country asked people to dispose of dog mess sensibly.
I hate this society where people hide behind children to make a point. This "oh won't somebody think of the children" attitude is not healthy.
So I agree that people should pick up dog mess because quite simply, it is the right thing to do.
My sister wanted me to point out, more children are becoming ill and dying in the uk because of obesity not because of dog mess....I wonder how many posters in this topic are vastly overweight or have porky children? More than would care to admit I bet.
Couldn't have put it better myself. Maybe that the excuse parents have for not allowing their kids to go out and living in mcdonalds 24/7 for fear of going near the dreaded dog poo in the open air.
How people born 100 years back must laugh at how pathetic our society has become.:hihi:

I hate this society where people hide behind children to make a point. This "oh won't somebody think of the children" attitude is not healthy.
So I agree that people should pick up dog mess because quite simply, it is the right thing to do.
My sister wanted me to point out, more children are becoming ill and dying in the uk because of obesity not because of dog mess....I wonder how many posters in this topic are vastly overweight or have porky children? More than would care to admit I bet.
being overweight does not affect others. being a filthy dirty pig, who leaves their dog mess in the street does affect others.

It dosn`t affect me, Yes its not nice to look at, but I simply step around said poop.... Walking round town with a fat friend does affect your social status, I find it embarrassing at times when Im with a fatty and people are gawping. So I disagree with your post.

Well, I kinda know where you are coming from but the point I was making was people on this thread were using the well being of children to support their argument (even though statistically it supports nothing).....so if they truly do have the health and safety at children at heart then there are more pressing matters that need to be addressed.
Also I don't think you comment of "being overweight does not affect others" is slightly misleading.
My sister was telling me how much specialist equipment is now being bought by hospitals just so they can cater for obese people. This money could easily be spent better elsewhere but these fatties are using up precious and limited resources. Most doctors are furious that money is being spent in such way, but the management teams are so scared that some fatty will do them under some stupid PC law that they are not willing to take the risk.
My sister also says that under 5% of clinical obese people are that way because of medical conditions, the rest are simply greedy people.
So the next time my nan is in hospital and the ward is understaffed / doesn't have the right equipment I will know that some overweight self indulgent b*stard has directly affected me.
Also, how many times have I not been able to sit on a free seat on a bus or train because the person at the other side of the seat is some humongous monster that has left very little room.
Fat people affect us everyday and we are not allowed to say anything because most hide behind some 'medical complaint excuse'.
Isn't it the overactive thyroid problem? Its not the fact they go to the chipshop 5 times a day :hihi:
