I've just put together an old 900 mhz Athlon machine I've had knocking around. Been out and bought a new PSU, Memory and Heatsink & Fan. But when installing XP it errors copying numerous files which seem to be different every time.
The CD is in perfect nick as I've used it before and has no scratches. The CD drive is fine as I've taken the one out of my main machine to do it. Any idea's?
I had a similar problem with a 600MHZ processor in a laptop J-Blaze. The processor and cd drive were getting too hot and it would do exactly the same thing, get so far and then stop (Never on the same file).
I ended up with the laptop sat on top of a sandwich box full of ice and a big fan blowing on it while it installed XP.
It took 1 1/2 hours but eventually it did install!.

Thanks for the tip I'll go get some ICE on it. Might even try turning down the Processor speed too. :D
Don't forget a towel or something between the ice and computer.....I don't want to be responsible for your house going up in smoke
