View Full Version : Any hairdressers to recommend?
Hi Everyone,
:help:
I usually go to Hair By Christmas in Broomhill, but I'm desperate for a restyle as I've been ill and thought it might cheer me up and make me feel a bit better if I got some new hair! But I can't find anywhere! I'm skint at the moment but want somewhere I can afford but I know I'll get a good do from! My mum goes to DaVinci's but I can't get in touch with them, Everyone I phone want £20 minimum for a cut and I can't afford that!
Does anyone have an idea of where I could go?
Hi Lotti, to get a decent hair cut you are looking at £30 plus,in my experience, but it is worth it .
Try spa 1877 hair Julie is excellent but it is very expensive at £40.00 however you get £15 voucher to spend on using the spa which is priceless, so it works out at £25.oo and they really do look after you in a friendly way.
your alternative is to try a local hair dresser, they can be cheaper?
Pauline BHG 30-01-2005, 11:15 I hadn't been to a hairdresser in 16 years, as my Mum/sister would trim my hair, and if i want it dyed, i'd do it myself. Needless to say, when i decided to get it *styled* a few months back, and it cost me £16, I was shocked ! It was about a fiver back in the day hehehehehheeh. Anyway - I actually went to the hairdresser in TJ Hughes on the High Street. They were great with me <I was nervous !!> and i got the EXACT style i wanted, for £16 :)
Hi Pauline that's great!
I ended up going somewhere that a good friend of mine recommended, they were only £8.50 and my friend said they were really good, seeing as I wanted this style really quickly because I thought it'd make me feel better if I looked better I went there.
I'm going to kill my 'good friend'. The hairdresser cut it but wouldn't style it, told me I needed some product in it but didn't do it for me, I walked home with my hood up even though it wasn't raining and when I got home, I went straight upstairs, washed my hair and tried to style it, it's a complete mess!
The trouble is I'm completely skint now and can't even afford to book with my normal hairdresser and have it corrected! I've just got to wear a hat til it grows back!
Thanks for the response anyway!
I'll maybe try them next!
oh pants that sounds like a nightmare, have you thought about booking in on a training night, most salons do these for free, good luck.

mjlacey21 31-01-2005, 15:23 When I was really skint I went to the salon next to the traffic lights at nether edge and because my hair was already washed at home she cut my hair for £8. wasn't the most amazing cut Id ever had, but they're very friendly in there. Will try and find the number for you.
faris2412 31-01-2005, 16:49 you could try castle college i used to do beauty therapy there and you get everything you would in a normal salon and its well cheap tutours are always watching so it never goes wrong the only thing is it sometimes can take a while. you can get it cut for something like £3.00. best of luck.
*Twinkle* 31-01-2005, 17:44 Argh! Sorry to hear about your hair nightmare! I've had similar experiences... Cheap hairdressers (the under £15 variety) will just chop the ends off your hair and call it a fiver. It's usually wonky, has no shape and isn't worth even trying to recreate. These are the type that are used to blue rinse brigades and perms, so when presented with longer hair, they clearly don't have a clue.
I know its hard lines but you do get what you pay for. My hair cuts cost £31.50 at Vanilla (Norfolk row) and I have Julie - the big boss. She's fab and spends about an hour on a cut and style. 30 odd quid is expensive for a haircut, but I really would not let anyone else touch my hair.
The best thing you can do when you're strapped for cash (which I can TOTALLY sympathise with!) is just save up until you get what you want. It looks like you've learnt the hard way with regards to your new style... Next time, save up and go to your usual stylist or Julie at Vanilla!
Thanks! I realise that now Caprice! I normally go to Sabrina at Hair By Christmas and she's wonderful, for just a trim it's around £10 (but she was booked up) but I usually go and have a full head dye for about £35 and you get a free cut and style with that which i think is fab!
I may have come into some money anyway so I might be able to afford a corrective haircut before I go away!
I've managed to do something with it for now though thankfully!
take care!
*Twinkle* 02-02-2005, 16:27 Hehe glad things are looking up :-)
If you haven't found your soulmate stylist, remember to always keep your hair long enough to tie back... You can hide a bad 'do with a bobble!
I realised that when I had it done, it's too short to tie back, but don't worry! I know what I'm going to do with it as soon as I can afford it and when it's grown out a bit! If I try and style it so it's a tidy style rather than a messy style like it's supposed to be, it works ok! My friend's made me feel better by being the first to say 'hey I like your hair!' hee hee!
Thanks for everyone's advice, i really appreciate it, if you can keep me up to date with these training days or whatever it was you mentioned, I'd appreciate that too!
Take care!
