View Full Version : Sheldon Road - house under police guard
Sheffette 23-01-2005, 17:20 Anyone know what's happening on Sheldon Road, Nether Edge?
I've just driven down there and there is a house just up from the traffic lights with police outside, one stood right in front of the front door, and three police cars parked near by.
coopster1974 23-01-2005, 17:22 I live next door -
Apparently theres a rat in her kitchen what is she gonna do?
Nosy git;)
fnkysknky 23-01-2005, 18:21 They'll be guarding crime scene evidence at a guess, apart from that I don't think it really has anything to do with me...
Sheffette 23-01-2005, 19:19 Ok, ok, clearly I've transgressed some unwritten law here.
From now on I will take no interest in my surroundings.
is it when you come up from abbeydale road, and on your left hand side?

It would be handy to know if, for instance, there are fire arms involved, wouldn't it? It's best to know if you're likely to get your head blown off just walking up your garden path, or if it's safe to let your daughter stay the night (see depoix's thread).
I think more people should be nosey - but only if they're prepared to act on what they find out (especially if they're noseying at a neighbours car being broken into, etc). I can't stand noseying for gossip's sake.
subverTV 24-01-2005, 09:26 I have friends who live on Sheldon road and got them to enquire with said plod, but they refused to tell them anything and told them in no uncertain terms to go away.
I don't think there's any harm in being interested in what's going on tho Sheffette.
Carborundum 21-07-2005, 21:58 I saw a fire in the distance at that time ...
But I seem to remember the same house had a clearout of old matresses and junk - presumably after the students had left - recently and dumped them at front of house under the bay window where they were left for weeks to rot and smell in the hot weather so maybe some vandal got fed up and set a match to them ? Sounds suspicious to me - hence the police ....
Still its gettin to something if you cant leave something outside your house temporarily without some vandal setting light to it -
and I thought Nether Edge was such a good area too !

Now waiting for a post from t020 recommending other areas of Sheffield to live in - other than Nether Edge! :hihi:

If you're not interested in things that go on in Sheffield, perhaps Sheffield Forum isn't the best place for you?

fnkysknky 22-07-2005, 16:29 I am interested in Sheffield thanks but I don't need to know what every single copper is doing, it has bugger all to do with me as the copper rightly ponted out to someone else who approached him/her.
Does anyone know what was happening on Glen Road this morning in Nether Edge S7?
Lots of police and riot vans apparently and, as I live near there - Im curious as to whats happening... ?

...surely that's part of the brilliance of Shef: it doesn't have such clear-cut social demarcation. You can be walking past a beautiful georgian detached house with a little flower garden and well-kept topiary, next minute you're in a nuclear fall-out zone being followed by a sinister dog with rabies. A lot of people class a large part of Abbeydale Road as Nether Edge - look at it: it's a total disaster. I've always felt that Sheldon Road is a bit creepy anyway...too many trees for that narrow a street.
I agree, I think of nether edge as closer to psalter lane than abbeydale road - where the nicer, older, bigger houses are!
I have to rent on sheldon road for the time being though so dont scare me too much!
