View Full Version : Chapeltown - what is the area like? wopp 26-10-2007, 18:12 Your opinions please :) Frank1985 29-10-2007, 17:54 its nice. i like it honeyb35 30-10-2007, 11:49 I live in High Green near Chapeltown, and I like it, close to motorway ect....Chapeltown is good in that all the facilities are there, banks, library, market ect...the only thing that would worry me is the pubs at weekends as it can get quite busy near the Waggon pub (scandals) with all the taxis ect, but there arent many houses too close to there anyway so it shouldnt be a problem phawley 30-10-2007, 11:57 I've lived in Chap for 35 years and have never had a problem. I don't go into the centre much at night so havn't seen any trouble but I know it does happen, but as the previous poster said if you are not actually living in the centre then it's great. smileyjiver 30-10-2007, 23:53 I used to live in Chapeltown before moving to Isle of Wight. I loved it there. I lived on the estate just off Station Road by the Asda and there was never any trouble. I also liked being close to the motorway as it was so easy getting to places. I can think of far worse places to live. Alligin 04-11-2007, 20:06 Wopp I have lived in Chapeltown for 32 years and would not want to live elsewhere in Sheffield. It has good transport links, ie buses, trains and the M1 motorway, good schools, and plenty of take-away outlets. Also it takes only a short stroll and you can be lost in the countryside, quite a few pubs as well Dave h-j 04-11-2007, 21:10 plenty of take-away outlets Now that's an endorsement - why Chapeltown needs to have 8+ takeaways is beyond me.. Dave h-j 04-11-2007, 21:35 I can think of far worse places to live. That about sums it up for me.. I've lived in Chapeltown for just over 7 years and to be honest I don't plan on hanging around for too much longer. It's all a bit run down, nothing to do and nowhere to go. I'm a married 30 year old with a small child and we spend most of our "leisure time" elsewhere. One good thing is that it's close to the M1, so you can be elsewhere fairly quickly. Trains * 2 per hours to Sheffield. Takes 12-15 minutes. * 1 train to leeds per hour (via barnsley) * 1 train to Huddedfield per hour (via Barnsley). * Platform is a bit desolate and kids tend to hang around in the evening. Makes it a bit uncomfortable. Buses Don't use them too much, as I find them unreliable (plus the train is nearer for me) * You can get a few services to Sheffield - but will take awhile. * Quite a few services will take you on a tour of oher places such as Ecclesfield or Firth Park - so extend the journey. Parks * One park - not very nice - usually empty. Probably something to do with the charred remains of the benches.. * There are also a few woods nearby, which have marked walks. Countryside * All depends where you live in Chapeltown. For me it's a 3 minutes walk - if you live near the centre more like a 30 minute walk. Shops * There is a large ASDA and also a Tesco metro/petrol station - these are the most popular. * KFC, Pizza Hut and lot of otehr takeaways () * plenty of estate agents. * Some other shops - nothing to write home about. * There is a market, but i've never been. Entertainment * Pubs * Nothing else On the northside of Sheffield, here and Ecclesfield and probably the best places (apologies to those who live elsewhere on teh northside). bensonhedges 04-11-2007, 22:06 Now that's an endorsement - why Chapeltown needs to have 8+ takeaways is beyond me.. Market forces and consumer demand probably covers it..... We moved here three years ago. I don't dislike it but probably wouldn't miss it if I left; like someone above said it's a nothing sort of place, not really good but certainly not bad. There's all the amenities the average person needs but nothing more. Funnily enough, my very first post on this forum was along the lines of "We are thinking of moving to Chapeltown - what's it like?" mrmist 06-11-2007, 18:03 We've just moved out of Chapeltown. I was there five years. I quite liked it to begin with, but towards the end was a bit sick of the grafitti, litter and noise. Pros - Excellent transport links (bus, train and car) Good amenities (Massive ASDA for the size of the place, post office, etc.) Cons - Seems to be heading downhill We never had any trouble, but I wouldn't consider the area to be particularly nice to walk around at night. SPIKER6 30-10-2011, 13:05 i was born here and lived here up to present day,it used to be a nice place before sheffield moved out here now its overcrowded and not a patch on what it once was denlin 30-10-2011, 13:14 i was born here and lived here up to present day,it used to be a nice place before sheffield moved out here now its overcrowded and not a patch on what it once was How old are you?
