Hi All,

My partner just called me to say that traffic is a nightmare on Abbeydale Road today; aparrently no traffic is allowed to go away from the city, and is being controlled by the police.

Anyone know whats going on?

Hi, I was on the 75 bus today on the way to town, we got diverted onto Chesterfield rd as there was a big polic block outside spar/pzza hut. Lots of police cars, a fire engine and lorry outside the spar - couldn't really see what was going on but whatever it was, it happened on that stretch of abbeydale rd.

I walked passed the corner where sheldon road and abbeydale road meet earlier and I think the traffic lights are out, there was a copper in the middle of the road directing traffic.

Could be a bomb though.

Hello,

The buses are going from abbeydale rd down broadfield rd (past the swimming baths) then down chesterfield rd and then joining Abbeydale rd again at the Royal (used to be a pub) where Abbeydale and London road meet - the route into town is the same after that.

Sheldon rd is really bad - traffic backed all the way up length or road - and yes i saw a fireengine come down the narrow residential rd of nether edge rd - what on earth is going on ?

Hello,

I haven't had a problem at all with abbeydale road- been along there twice today once at about 13.00 and then again at 17.00. I went from carter knowle road down to wolsely road - no hold ups at all!!!

How strange is that?

Serious crash outside the Spar, near Pizza Hut.

We arrived just after it had happened and saw a BMW car rammed under the back of a delivery truck. It looked like it hit it at a high speed, but that's just my view, no evidence etc. to support or suggest this.

We also saw what looked to be a driver in the drivers seat of the car with a severley crushed roof and completely shattered window. So I am not sure if the crash was fatal, but I would suspect the worst unfortunately.

Traffic was running slow past it and a Police car had just pulled up to the rear of the vehicle.

There was also a gang of local lads all around the car looking in and the Police shifted them back.

After this a paramedic turned up and two ambulances followed by more Police and traffic Police units before the road was closed off.

That bit of road is a favorite for some of the speeding nutters around here but that is usually at night.

Just to point out again, I have no proof or evidence that it was speeding, it just looked like a massive impact which suggested this thought to me. They may have been driving at the correct speed limit, who knows.

(not a dig at the above poster, but just pointing out to be fair)

I am sure the Sheffield Star will have more information tomorrow.

Thanks for the updates guys. I hope that nobody got hurt, but if the police took it so seriously, it doesn't look good!

Yeah we saw 2 fire engines & 3 police cars rushing past whilst we were in the car wash place just past the Broadfield pub. That was about 1.45pm ish. The police had the road blocked off by the Seat garage & diverted traffic down past Heeley baths.

Just bought the Sheffield Star. Two 18 year olds were in the BMW that crashed into the lorry, but both are ok.
So that's good news!

So that's good news! That's excellent news and considering the state of the car it's a bloody miracle!
