View Full Version : Do you like your job? Jamie 23-01-2005, 12:06 Do you like your job ... or do you hate it? What do you do? What would you like to do? Tracie 23-01-2005, 12:16 I'm a PhD student. I go through phases where I love my job and can't imagine doing anything else and then others where I hate it hate it hate it (usually when none of my experiments are working :P). I think thats just the nature of research though  In an ideal world, I'd be a zoo keeper working in a giraffery  or a professional purchaser of shoes and handbags.... :P xafier 23-01-2005, 12:26 I'm a Uni student and work part time for the Home Office... I find my job pretty tolerable, it can get a bit boring at times, but I don't dislike it... it's a million times better than when I worked for Toymaster in Meadowhell!! ewww spiffymonkey 23-01-2005, 12:37 I love my job. The work is good, the hours are good, the people are nice, and the money is good. I'm not sure if it's because I really, really, really HATED my last job and so this was is like a breath of fresh air, but I've had it for 3 months now and I still love it, so I guess it's the real thing ;) _Fate_ 23-01-2005, 12:42 I work in the accounts department at CRW Maintenance up rutland road. I want to be an IT Technician. igm1 23-01-2005, 12:52 Part time at McDonalds- I hate it sooooo much, need money though A-level student- I enjoy it... voted for this one  alchresearch 23-01-2005, 13:02 I love my job, i'm a web designer and media manager. I have a long-term project of converting old VHS educational programmes to DivX for streaming through our computer network at school. It's great fun, I learn loads (and get time off to study at uni.), have the time to study and implement new systems, there's no pressure and I have three fantastic way-overspecced PCs! Sadly, the salary isn't fantastic and it's only a three year contract. Zebra 23-01-2005, 14:13 I love my job most of the time. Cept when I'm ill or there's a big problem. I work for myself mostly, that's why I don't like the negative side, cos it's my headache, no one elses. Otherwise, pretty great ta. Couldn't do a job I hate, it would make me utterly miserable and I don't see the point. Never been one for sticking with anything I hate. D2J 23-01-2005, 14:21 I like my current job but I hopefully find out for definate tomorrow if I have got another job that I went for  Be the end of me in IT though :( straylight_r 23-01-2005, 14:27 My jobs ok, I'm a trainee autoCAD technician/IT assistant. A pay rise wouldn't go a miss though!! Sidla 23-01-2005, 14:37 Used to hate it, because I did all late evening shifts on the bar, which was awful. Now I have transfered to the cellar, maintaining stock and such-like, where I do mostly day shifts which are 10 times better. Wouldn't say I love it now, but it has it's moments. mr craig 23-01-2005, 15:35 I like my job like my trade, but a) don't like who i work for. b) don't like the wages either. :( _Fate_ 23-01-2005, 16:40 Originally posted by straylight_r My jobs ok, I'm a trainee autoCAD technician/IT assistant. A pay rise wouldn't go a miss though!! Does that mean IT Technician assistant? If so where do u work and how would i get a similar placement? Sony 23-01-2005, 17:00 I worked for the jobcentre until december ( the phones only) and loved it as the people I worked with were great but it was only temporary til march 05. So I decided to work for the council (liberata, council tax). Worked there from 04 jan 05 til friday 21 jan05. I hated it, the staff were horrible, if only you all knew who you're dealing with when you pay you're council tax... I've decided to go back to the jobcentre til march! Even though its temporary, its miles better to be in a job you're happy with than one you dread! vidster 23-01-2005, 17:17 I really don't like the job i am doing now. The job is boring, the people are boring and bitter and to top it all, we were informed on Friday, we are not getting a wage rise! . There are two avenues for me now. Joinery (I have a City & Guilds), or computer technician. I have no qualifications in the latter and i am about to turn 30 so i do not know what my options are?. Chris_Sleeps 23-01-2005, 17:25 I started to hate my job (i worked nights in a pub) so i quit, but i still do one night a week because i need the money. I now have no money but lots of time to practice my music, so i'm happy. I'm very glad i quit. Chris. nick2 24-01-2005, 08:41 I'm an analyst programmer and I love my job, mainly because the people I work with are great. Swan_Vesta 24-01-2005, 11:22 I work in radio communications, whilst I find it technically interesting and like the range of people I get to talk to - I get on with some members of my team but outright dislike others. I dislike the job for the unrealistic expectations of what management think that a team of 8 people can do. I've just applied for a job with the home office and hope to God that I get it. Melanie 24-01-2005, 11:46 Loads of people on here work for the home office! we should have a poll... who works for the home office. i am just about to start there. (apologies in advance to deejay for mentioning it, AGAIN  ) Angeldevine 24-01-2005, 11:47 High Class Escort. I love it. Few hours, great pay. ToryCynic 24-01-2005, 12:09 Originally posted by Deejay I like my current job but I hopefully find out for definate tomorrow if I have got another job that I went for  Be the end of me in IT though :( Craig, I thought you thoroughly enjoyed the IT - what is the new field you're going into? Professional pub-user? :D :) D2J 24-01-2005, 12:19 Originally posted by Melanie Loads of people on here work for the home office! we should have a poll... who works for the home office. i am just about to start there. (apologies in advance to deejay for mentioning it, AGAIN  ) Been there 7 years, only 39 to go till retirement. Yes I enjoy my job, but hopefully will enjoy the potential new job even more. IT Stuff will have to be done in my own time :D Cheers Melanie  :P pussycat 24-01-2005, 12:24 I'm an R & D scientist and I like my job (I wouldn't be doing it if I didn't!). It's a small company, so my role is not well defined which means that I get to try lots of different stuff rather than just being in the lab all of the time (although that's my favourite part). However, if I could make the same money (which is very good)working as a care asistant, I would do it like a shot. I did uni vacation work as a care assistant in a rest home and it was fantastic. Maybe one day, when Mr Pussycat is rich I'll be able to go back to it... Oh ... there's a Mr Pussycat !? :( Edd 24-01-2005, 20:41 I love my job....every day I learn something new, and every night i go to the pub and drink til i forget it ;) :P :loopy: :gag: :suspect: Seriously....my job is great...but its only b/c of the people i work with. If it wasnt for them, it would be purgatory:rolleyes: . _Fate_ 24-01-2005, 20:44 What do you do? What makes it so good? I personally would have left my job by now if it wasnt for the few decent peeps .. beckb 24-01-2005, 21:06 I used to love the people at my old job but hated the job which is one of the reasons I left it. I miss them all lots. :( My new job is good. Its taken time to settle in but I have a good feeling about it now. ToryCynic 07-06-2005, 13:53 Originally posted by IanMitchell Part time at McDonalds- I hate it sooooo much, need money though What he said! :) *Ryan* 07-06-2005, 13:57 i dont like my job, but it pays more than the dole, and i look goood! Cyclone 07-06-2005, 14:13 I quite like my actual work, I dislike having to drive 100 miles each way to get to the office this project is run from. GazB 07-06-2005, 14:14 The ideal job for me would be a nightclub owner or something similiar.. but for my age I think my job is perfect for me! I'm a PC/Server Technician and deal with all calls (PC/Server/Hardware/Software/User Profiles etc) at 2nd Line. Our team is laid back and I work a flexible 35 hour week.. I earn about 5K more than an average 19 year old in full-time employment and do less hours... It only takes me 20 minutes to get here in a morning and I get no traffic!! I deal with problems that are in line with the skillset I am doing (MCSE 2K) and my courses and exams are fully paid for. I got the job over about 20 people that applied, but I worked hard to get here and I damn well deserve it! Love it :) ToryCynic 07-06-2005, 14:14 Originally posted by Cyclone I quite like my actual work, I dislike having to drive 100 miles each way to get to the office this project is run from. Good lord, 100 miles from you must be in the county of Lincolnshire or so, or northbound, up to North Yorkshire way? :) GazB 07-06-2005, 14:21 Birmingham? That's about 100 miles or so isn't it? Or Liverpool? Tracie 07-06-2005, 15:09 I was just thinking about this thread earlier this afternoon. I'm a PhD student (chemistry). I go through phases where I love my job and can't imagine doing anything else and then others where I hate it hate it hate it (usually when none of my experiments are working) Today has definitely been one of those 'other' phases :( Macca 07-06-2005, 15:40 I'm a civil servant too. I work for DWP - but only through convenience - we were lumped in with them during the machinery of govt. changes following the election in 2001. I really like it :gag: I work on a European funding programme which tackles discrimination in the labour market www.equal.ecotec.co.uk I think I enjoy it because I'm quite good at it, and have a very good understanding of the programme, and where I fit in. The majority of the work isn't too taxing, and the stuff that is enables me to show my skills better. Everyone on my team gets on, and this leads to a more relaxed atmosphere. In three years I've gone from being on disciplinary (old team, different job) to being amongst the top 5% of staff in the entire department :D and that is mostly down to the people I work with and the job I am doing now. Can't wait for HR to sort out this years pay award, ching and indeed CHING! SaveUK 07-06-2005, 17:25 3.45 am....... get out of bed (Bad) 4.15 am....... Im a chef and i adore cookin. I do it at home and for a livin as well as decorate cakes. I have a strong creative streak so its a good job for me. And i wud like to make head chef b4 30. vidster 08-08-2005, 17:48 I told my boss's last week that i'm leaving at the end of this month so i guess it's safe to say that i don't/didn't like my job :hihi: Now i'm going to be a self employed Joiner and i'm bricking myself :suspect: |
