Heyesey 25-10-2007, 22:26 Since when has someone deserved to win a 17-race championship just because they won the last race? Why even bother with the other sixteen, then? In fact, I think things worked out about right. It was a ludicrous decision to let McLaren continue to race, after it was concluded that they'd illegally pinched Ferrari technical data to help design their car. Hamilton (and Alonso) should have been out of the running after that. That they both lose out on the title because of a dubious stewards' decision over illegal fuel temperatures would be appropriately ironic. Still disappointed though, being a Brit, that he couldn't pull it off. nexus_ 25-10-2007, 22:27 Hamilton don't need any help they'll win the title anyway - http://news.bbc.co.uk/sport1/hi/football/scot_div_1/div_1_table/default.stm j spendalot 25-10-2007, 22:38 would everyone feel the same if hamilton wasn't british, and it was the other way around? nexus_ 25-10-2007, 22:44 Hamilton didn't do what was needed in the last few races and I don't think he should get the title. Mclaren are right to appeal since everything should be fair, but the title should stay where it is. They need to strip the 'cheating' teams of the points and position but leave Hamilton with his position - not sure how they frig that though :) I also wish Alonso would shut-up moaning though, just because he is not the No 1 anymore he should just get over himself. j spendalot 25-10-2007, 23:12 I think if they do punish the other drivers and teams, they should do it next season, and alonso is only getting stick for telling the truth when hamilton was backing Mclaren when they were caught cheeting. People are only sticking up for hamilton because he's british. nexus_ 26-10-2007, 11:23 I think if they do punish the other drivers and teams, they should do it next season, and alonso is only getting stick for telling the truth when hamilton was backing Mclaren when they were caught cheeting. People are only sticking up for hamilton because he's british. So Mclaren were cheating because one of their employees was doing something they shouldn't. They were punished, as I believe the exact wording was, because they didn't control their employee. A Ferrari employee was also involved but they were not in trouble for their failure to control him. Double standards? Alonso was involved in the cheating himself because he was aware of it and seemed to be invovled, yet escaped punishment. Seems odd to me. This has been a really good season for 'excitement' in F1 when it usually painfully dull but the whole season has been tarnished by cheating itself but also by the lack of fair and balanced punishment of everyone involved. Ferrari 'cheated' at the beginning of the season by having something illegal on their car (a flexible floor) for the Oz grand prix which they won, but they promised to remove it and were not stripped of their points as other teams have been. All in all I'd say that despite the excitement this has been a bad season for F1 when you look at everything that has gone on and the FIAs failure to be consistent. beckelina 26-10-2007, 11:28 But as Hamilton himself has declared that he would not want to be given the Championship through a steward's decision, then if people want to stick up for him then they should agree with his position. But Alonso should shut up moaning, I agree. Ally68 26-10-2007, 11:29 Hamilton has said that he doesn't want to win the title that way even though the team have made an appeal. He wants to win the title fair and square. Next season there will be no doubts. higgins 26-10-2007, 18:26 hamilton had his chance(s) and blew it MickM 29-10-2007, 17:13 hamilton had his chance(s) and blew it Indeed. Although hindsight is a wonderful thing he had two whole races (China/Brazil) to pick up only 4pts and failed. It must be tough at the top. But how exactly will he commute to McLaren every day... or will he still live here really? I really wanted to like this lad but as soon as he gets a chance he seems to have pushed off to a tax haven. robS35 29-10-2007, 20:47 Hamilton going to live in Switzerland to get away from it all. http://www.sportinglife.com/formula1/news/story_get.cgi?STORY_NAME=formula1/07/10/29/AUTO_Hamilton_Nightlead.html http://www.sportinglife.com/formula1/news/story_get.cgi?STORY_NAME=formula1/07/10/29/manual_105313.html So nothing to do with Switzerland been a bit of a tax haven. Tony 29-10-2007, 20:56 Of course not, it's all OUR fault! If he didn't want recognising he could have gone to Wales. Missdan 30-10-2007, 16:51 Didn't take him long to find a tax haven. They all court the press to get where and what they want and then moan when they 'can't even go to the bathroom in a petrol station or go to the pictures' without being recognised, his words not mine. Sorry but I have no sympathy. daftlad 30-10-2007, 18:40 Didn't take him long to find a tax haven. Sorry but I have no sympathy. me neither, if you are famous then you will get people that want to see you. the man is an idiot i think. but i think he is only going to there because of the tax reasons and just dont want to admit it. if he does not want to be noticed why not go back to go karts and stop being such a big head CHAIRBOY 31-10-2007, 15:51 Mosley commenting on Hamilton's presence. http://www.sportinglife.com/formula1/news/story_get.cgi?STORY_NAME=formula1/07/10/31/AUTO_Mosley.html JayneRay 02-11-2007, 23:35 So nothing to do with Switzerland been a bit of a tax haven. I missed this gem and was told it by husband who misquoted it as Sweden now it makes sense. Tony 03-11-2007, 00:03 The fact that we've only managed 19 posts on this thread in a week probably shows how little anyone cares any more for the music hall farce that is F1. CHAIRBOY 10-11-2007, 08:17 Hamilton's TV confession - TAX! http://www.sportinglife.com/formula1/news/story_get.cgi?STORY_NAME=formula1/07/11/09/manual_151735.html Heyesey 10-11-2007, 12:23 Hamilton's TV confession - TAX! Did anybody actually need him to formally confess it? If he wanted a quiet life, he could've got that by moving to Scotland, Berkshire, Bournemouth or any of three dozen other places, but he'd still be paying our income tax rates. Ivor&Mel 10-11-2007, 22:38 Jeez... cut the guy some slack! Build 'em up... knock 'em down... How very British... We have a world-class sportsman at last and all people want to do is whinge about his choice of lifestyle! He drives fast cars for a living and he's extremely good at it at a very young age; where he chooses to live is up to him and I fail to see how that detracts from his abilities :loopy: Why do people want to drag him down for trying to make the best of the limited time he will have? You think he's going to be racing till he's 65 and then retire on a nice pension? If anyone that has been in the same position as him has anything to say, then I'd be glad to hear it! It would be nice if he paid his tax towards the country that helped to make him great. After all this country paid for his education and this country paid for the midwives and doctors that delivered him into this world etc etc. Ivor&Mel 10-11-2007, 22:49 It would be nice if he paid his tax towards the country that helped to make him great. After all this country paid for his education and this country paid for the midwives and doctors that delivered him into this world etc etc. So he has to be tied to nanny's apron strings all his life? No-one that was born here should be allowed to live in another country to maximise their earnings? Are you seriously telling me that you would stay here if you were in his position? Where has Coulthard been living? Where are the complaints about him? Ah - but he's not a great talent, so no point in knocking him... Are you seriously telling me that you would stay here if you were in his position? Where has Coulthard been living? Where are the complaints about him? Ah - but he's not a great talent, so no point in knocking him... More accurately, Coulthard didn't insult the intelligence of his fans by lying to them and pretending he only went abroad for the sake of a quiet life. He also wasn't so hypocritical as to whinge and moan about being "forced" to leave the country when we all knew damn well it was his choice to do so. |
