View Full Version : Electronic Voice Phenomenon
With the release of 'White Noise' which i saw today and was seriously freaked out by, i thought id ask if anyone has actually encountered an example of this Electronic Voice Phenominon?
Or does anyone know a site that has lots of info and examples of EVP?
Yes, quite a few. It's not that difficult to pick up, but the question is are the "voices" that are recorded that of the dead, radio interference, or misinterpretation of natural background noise?
Last year outside the George & Dragon pub at Wentworth I recorded 2 hours of audio footage. There's a three minute sequence that sounds very much like a battle taking place in the distance - guns, cries etc. To my ears, it's crystal clear, but to other members of the team taking part, it's far less distinct.
Given that I was the most skeptical member of the group and the one who tended to favour natural explanations for what were commonly being labelled as paranormal events, it shows just how subjective the nature of interpreting EVPs can be.
The usual first stop for EVP files is the Utah Ghost Hunters website. Their files are located here:

...have we met, Mr _Fate_ ? your welsh forum friend seems to ring a bell too. :suspect:

Have you not seen the film? "There's contacting the dead, and there's meddling, and YOU are MEDDLING!"
It frightened me to death, I spent most of the film with my arms wrapped around my own neck, jumping like a big girl! I'm usually really interested in stuff like this, but it scared me enough to stay away. Any of the group you were with have any bad experiences?

Don't think I want 3 dark spectres on my back either. I'll be leaving well alone.:shocked::shocked: ;)

No.
No spectres, no possessions, no entities following people home. The groups claiming crap like that happens to them on a regular basis makes it look exiting, but it's all sedate stuff if it's investigated properly.
There's just a slight difference between clicking the record button on a tape recorder in the real world to search for EVPs and what happens in the movies. A difference you could pour the Atlantic ocean through.
DaBouncer 23-01-2005, 12:19 Didn't scare me but I thought it was a quality movie - one for the collection when it's out!
Bikertec 23-01-2005, 12:33 I thought White Noise was a good idea with the concept of EVP but the story line was so weak, they had something origanal but blew it. We have tried variuos forms of EVP but everyone seems to hear something different, never tried the TV concept though.
spiffymonkey 23-01-2005, 12:41 I haven't seen the film, and I don't believe in EVP, but the first thing I thought of was that it had already been done in 6th Sense ;)
It's strange that things like this only seem to happen to people who are likely to go nuts about it, though. Like aliens, it seems that ghosts are very picky about their victims :)
Actually 1% of the fuzziness is caused by radiation from the Big Bang.
To be honest i was really disappointed... (white noise)
I've never been to see a scary film at the cinema before so was really nervous about going... i thought i would have been scared witless... I was fine didnt really think alot of it... thought it was a bit slow... a few people walked out... may have been scared i guess or we're they bored!? :? 6/10
As for EVP... dont mess... some things are best left alone!
Bikertec 23-01-2005, 12:58 With the introduction of Electronic voice recorder like the ones built into MP3's that have no hiss or crackles, I wonder if we will still be able to pick up EVP's.
I've read a fair bit about EVP in the past and it's the one thing I won''t do. Yes I've meddled and mostly it was a wash out but some things weren't. Therefore EVP and me are a no go!
I think there is an awful lot which is open to interpretation, same as hearing someone talk to you in realisty, somethings are misheard.
I personally, despite many conversations about this, cannot find any reason that it may be totally untrue.
I heard a long time ago that a large amount of EVP messages are threatening, well, again, in representing a race which proportionally does have people who are of that nature - agian, it wouldn't be unlikely.
Finally, there are huge store rooms, someplace in the US where paranormal activities are investigated with cassettes, recordings etc etc which are periodically analysed, I wouldn't want that job and I didn't envy Michael Keaton having all that time sat in front on static. Wonder if he heard Carrie Ann
No reason to believe me, try it yourself. I wouldn't but it's one way of finding out.

It's just a tape recorder, when all's said and done. It's the mysterious over-hyped bull that people are scarred of. We shouldn't be afraid of odd sounds on tape recorders in 2005.
