Okay

Today I was going to buy a laptop from MESH plc but due to their atrocious treatment of me as a potential customer after I had heard good things about them I decided that I'd go somewhere else since I would have been spending a consierable amout of money (at least £1.2k, probably more)

The only place I'll not buy from is there or Dell due to previous encounters with a friends PC.

Can anyone tell me a good place to buy it from, I'm looking for good quality stuff not just the highest specification and it needs to be V. high spec for a Notebook PC (it is going to be used for video editing)?

Thankyou anyone who replies in advance

Wilf

What about an Alienware laptop?

They are pretty cool laptops- not cheap- but they are very powerful.

Mine's from a company selling on ebay. It was a prezzie though. Apparently it took several attempts to get a really good price.

Off topic I know, but what is it with calling a LAPTOP a notebook... How to confuse a bloc of paper and a powerful tool to play games on the train...

HP manufacture some pretty decent laptops, and you can buy direct from them:

I dont think you can beat IBM thinkpads. Everyone I know who owns one is a big fan of them.

The P models are especially impressive, (t41p/t42p). Not the cheapest out there but you get what you pay for. The flexview screens on the P models are simply amazing. 1600x1200 and very very bright (beats the hell out of sony xbrite).

I have 2 of them and dont think you can beat them.

If you order from insight.com and ring them up after ordering you can pick it up at the warehouse (in Sheffield) a couple of hours after ordering it (At least... I did last time I ordered one).

Just been visited by a customer with his shiny new laptop, which he got from an auction in the area.

Paid £600, got offered £1000 for it on the way out of the door, is at least £1500 worth on HP web site as of last week.

P4 something (don't care, I'm an AMD freak :P )
GeForce Go 6800
DVD re-writer
17" widescreen (proper desktop replacement job)
built in Harmon Kardon speakers

Does anyone know which auction this'd be? Apparently they are quite frequent & local, but I have a buffer under-run error with my short term RAM...
