The police used to 'posess' my stereo. Even if it was only playing a tape, the radio would override with a super-loud broadcast about Doncaster's criminal fraternity.

Before eventually reading the post correctly I thought you were on about popular music makers, The Police. The "Doncaster criminal fraternity" bit threw me!

My girlfriend's dad swore that his chair lift was haunted as it would travel up and down his staircase throughout the night. He actually asked me to enlist the help of a paranormal group to investigate.

After a quick trip to the toolbox and an equally quick fiddle with a screwdriver, I told him some sticky stuff had been spilt over the operating buttons.

It turned out to be Horlicks. Silly old bugger.

I have on occasion been playing guitar in a rock band, when a radio station has come loud and clear through the amp.

To solve this interference you just alter the tone control on the guitar, as AM signals can be picked up easily on any amplifier, all you need is a tuned circuit.

Just think what it's doing to his brain then :(
My cursor flies about the screen and the mouse acts erratically if I have my phone by it.

A friend who had an expensive electric keyboard was freaked out when it started talking like Sparky the magic piano if anyone remembers this] It turned out it was picking up and transmitting radio messages from passing taxi's. Go to such and such address in a voice like a dalek.

My daughter's phone was stolen a few months ago. The mobile insurance replaced it with a 'reconditioned' (used, the cheap so and so's) handset.

It works fine, except that when she charges it, usually at night, it makes all kind of beeps, squeaks, clicks, and lights up randomly.

She went out of town recently for a school function and was sharing a hotel room with three other girls, and at night, the phone kept them all awake and skeeved them all so bad they put it in the bathroom and shut the door to get some sleep.

We've had the battery replaced twice, and a new chip put in and it STILL makes these weird noises and lights up by itself.

It's obviously got some technical problems, and we can't WAIT to replace it! She still has a few months left on her contract, so we'll just have to grin and bear it for now.

The jury's still out on this one, unless you have done your own scientific study to prove otherwise.

So in the meantime you've jumped on the gossip bandwagon. Loads of things are dangerous to our health, like the sun for instance. No-one moans about that.

I've used mobile phones since the late 80's, when they were the size of bricks. I often find myself with headaches after using them for a while. This is not imagined and not brought on by gossip mongers. The headaches have been happening for years, long before the newspaper stories. Why do I use them ? Well, I have to use one for my work but I do minimise use by using handsfree whenever possible and diverting my calls to my home phone whenever I'm working from home.

As for sun exposure, perhaps we should be concerned.

PS. I'm not completely risk averse though, I ride a motorbike so I'm 20 times more likely to die in a road accident.

Its not an urban myth it must be pretty common, a few years ago my flatmates used to interfere with my TV too.

As for the mobile phone thing try feeling your ear after you've had a fairly long conversation - it goes quite hot. It gives me headaches too. Think it might be more to do with the volume though!

Ever tried feeling your ear after using a normal corded phone for a reasonable period of time as a direct comparison?

Back on topic, I've got some cordless headphones, and if I go out of the infra red range, first it goes really crackly, then you pick up a faint reception of "Magic FM".... I realised which station it was when I heard the dulcit tones of that a*se "Scottie McClue" on his dull as ditchwater phone-in programme.

I'm a radio amateur and one of the conditions of my license is that when I transmit I should cause no interference to anyone else - it really peeves me that the manufacturers of stuff can get away with making devices that crap all over the airwaves!

An on-topic issue with mobile phones used to be the interference they caused to come types of computer monitor - put the phone within a foot of the monitor and wait. Next time phone talked to base station the picture jumped and got interference lines on it....classic!

When I'm listening to short wave radio I get a lovely 'burble' whenever one of the local security lights goes on.

But I can safely say Ive never caused interference to the neighbours....yet.....maye I'm not trying hard enough....:hihi:
