Anyone remember the old days when there were houses on Ford Lane and Hunshelf Road/Park in the Works before they were all demolished...or even know why they were knocked down..remember the Rising Sun Pub on hunshelf park...or the old Canteen and buildings down in the bottom near to the shop (now the Works Lunchbox) where the railway lines came into Sammy Fox's

Do you know why ford Cottage and the shop on hunshelf rd were the only ones left standing..seems strange esp as part of the last or first house on ford lane was attached by the porch to the shop at that stage.. any pics at all

I lived up on Hunshelf Park before emigrating 33yrs ago, they haven't knocked those big houses down have they? I heard they'd been made into apartments.

Hunshelf park is fine and still there overlooking the steelworks. honeymoon row, gentlemans row etc are still there its not changed much appart from more cars parked.....its a little like going back in time still on the road its great. All still privatly owned only one property has been split into two flats by the owner...nice to see kids playing out still and not sat at computers...you were there way before my time..only a few older residents left now...

We lived at 31 Hunshelf Park till 1973 then we moved up Willow Rd after we sold it, to use the money for our fares to Canada.
Our children had a healthy childhood up Hunshelf, lots of fresh air, no worries like today,
( all around the world) We often had cows fall over the back wall, into our garden. Then we would have to trail up the field to get the farmer to fetch them back. Once we even had sheep grazing in our garden!
My husband and myself actually grew up on the Parson Cross Estate, but couldn't get a council house. In 1967 Stocksbridge council gave you a 100% mortgage, and we couldn't miss that chance of a lifetime. Then in the 70s when things got really bleak, we wanted a better future for our kids, so we decided to emigrate to Canada, as my sister was already here. I was homesick for a few years, but we kept coming back for vacations, now we have grandkids here, and this is home. Does the Leadbeaters still live up there, the Ibbottsons or the Birch's? Mrs Tindle and her brother who lived next door must have passed on now. We still have friends in Stocksbridge who we keep in touch with.
