Got a router today and followed all the setup instructions in the manual but it won't work. I plugged the Ethernet cable in to the router and the supplied cable from the router to my computer but I can't connect to the internet. I tried to connect on the laptop ( Via wireless) and it says page cannot be displayed. I have to Plug the Ethernet cable back in to the computer to get online. When I move the Ethernet cable from the computer to the router I can't get online.

Are you on ADSL or cable?

Presumably you're running an ethernet cable from a modem to this new router?

Are you sure the original modem isn't a modem/router...? TBH, it sounds like you've now got two routers on your network and everything is getting confused...

As well as the above:

I assume you have set the router up as well...? I may be trying to teach my granny to suck eggs but it's not just a case of plug in and go online, you'll have to enter the routers IP to set it up, usually 192.168.0.1...then enter the username & password.

If you have done all this, and the above isn't the case then you will have a status dialog showing you loads of techy information and also the state of the connection.

HTH
