There are a couple of offices uptown on queen street, but they are finishing that contract in 18 months time and they have all been told they will be made redundant so they can go and look for other jobs now

Depends on what you end up doing I suppose. It's a big company and you'll simply be just another number, but that's to be expected from most corporations these days.

It'd be purely for financial reasons. Capita will be able to do the job cheaper than the council.

I work for Capita in Queens House on Queen Street and I am being made redundant. When the consultation period started we were told that when the consultation came to an end and we were put on notice we would get time off to look for jobs and attend interviews now the mangement says we have to do this in our own time which i think is wrong. Don't ever work for Capita because they time you on everything right down to toilet breaks. You are lucky to earn £40 a day with these cowboys!

Some people were made redundant from Queens House today and because there was no work for them to do the management to took away the their PCs and locked them into the board room until someone phoned HR and they were told to let them out. This is just crazy I don't know what planet the management is on.

I was actually thinking of applying here as I desperately need a job but based on the reactions in this thread and the other large thread, I might reconsider. Are there a few Capita branches in Sheffield? Is there one in Attercliffe? A mate of mine who gave me their number said they are only 10-15mins away from city centre?

Don't ever work for Capita because they work you to the bone for a pittance. You are lucky to earn £40 a day once tax as been deducted. They time you on every little thing right down to drink & toilet breaks. They 'reward' grown adults for their hard work with sweets & cakes like school children which I think is so patronising. I can't wait to leave!

When did you work for them? In the 40's?

For a 40 hour week I earned £210 easy through an agency on £6.50 an hour, after tax and N.I.

The talk of them timing your toilet breaks is crap. I worked there for 5 months and enjoyed it, and I worked on Currys Support at the Nunnery Square place (the Attercliffe one), they dont rush you into anything, the people are a good laugh, the only thing that was bad about it was the guidelines that Currys, PC World etc set out on products.

Overall I say go for it, its not near as bad as people make out.

I think you will find that £210 per week is about £200 below the national average, it not even a thousand pounds a month.

My weekly wage after tax is £191 which equates to about £38 per day so I am correct in saying that you are lucky to earn £40 per day with these cowboys.

If it's so rubbish then why did you work for them? Why didn't you just find another job that would pay you so much more?

The Capita farce continues, this morning we got an email saying that claims adjusters who have got 3 weeks left until they are redundant can apply to have their notice period extended by 2 months because the contract is not complete. Typical crapita they get these big government contracts and either balls them up or don't complete them on time. I hope no one takes up the offer just to spite the management. I couldn't get my breath when I read the email.

Obviously people have had varying experiences working for Capita.

Both of my parents ended up working for Capita for a few years, before they retired and I was sickened by the way the staff were treated.

I worked for Capita after they took the old DSG call centre over....to say that you are treated like cattle is an understatement. However if you're looking for experience for a short period of time it would be useful...just don't stay there!

I'm sure the Health and Safety Executive would take a dim view of that behaviour. It breaches Health and Safety laws.
