The weekend, hurrah! I was going to get up and go to the gym this morning but I've not been feeling very well so I'm going to have a nice, lazy day instead filled with made for TV films and chicken soup :P Hmm.. actually at some point I'm going to have to go into town and get some food since I don't have any soup or milk or tea bags or bread or er... anything  what have the rest of the forumers got planned for this fine day? Who's resting off a hangover? :P

Nursing a hangover! Too mush home made wine last night but had to get up to buy concert tickets this morning. Vision's a bit blurry so will probably find I ordered tickets for McFly instead of Queen. Three more cups of tea and I'll be off to buy a sewing machine. Have not planned further than that but that's the great thing about Saturday's - don't have to!

Perhaps you mean "albeit"? A common mistake when people hear words spoken and then write them down phonetically.

I'll probably end up doing a bit of work today too... This is completely off topic but I've just been into town (for the acquisition of soup, as mentioned previously :P ) and I've just remembered a dream I had last night... I can't believe I didn't remember it first thing this morning, it actually woke me up in tears it was that horrible. I asked the lettings office here if I could have a pet gerbil and they said no. I then broke into my neighbours flat (obviously on a hunch :P) and discovered his flat to be full of pet gerbils. So... angry and indignant at my treatment I went out and brought myself a gerbil of my own. I set up aforementioned pet in a luxury gerbilarium and went to work. When I got home, I found the lettings office people in my flat along with some residents, and they had killed my gerbil :shakes: It was so sad. That will be my Saturday spent remembering that now  Any psychoanalysts out there...? :P

Been to work 'til 13:00.

Had some lunch and we are now off to Parkgate to go to Morrisons for the weeks shopping then over the road to get my lad some new school trousers.

Then tomorrow I have the wonderful task of fitting some skirting board and a spot of painting to do.

Not exactly sex, drugs and rock 'n' roll no is it.

Both are correct. Albeit is just a conjugation of All Be It:

http://dictionary.reference.com/search?q=albeit&r=67

esp. [Middle English al be it : al, even if; see all + be, subjunctive of ben, to be; see be + it, it; see it.]

All + Be + It = Albeit

Like All + Right = Alright, we seem to lose the second L in all when conjugation occurs.

edit: I don't mind spending Saturday evening correcting incorrect spelling corrections :)

Nice try, but incorrect. The example you describe is obsolete and has not been in common use for centuries.

Far from intentionally using the Middle English version (come on!), I suspect Deejay simply heard "albeit" spoken and thought he was hearing "all be it". An easy mistake to make if you haven't seen the word written.

first time since 1971 ive had no children in the house,or wife.
went to the local pub and saw people havent seen in ages,

had a pint in the four local pubs and was amazed how much the industry has gone down hill, scarbrough had eleven in,upperthorpe had seven, the office had fifteen and the white rails was the most popular with thirty two at ten thirty.

is it the prices? or arent people bothering going out any more?
are people scared to go out when its dark ? or has it really come to the point where you just can not afford to go out?

not mant years ago you would be struggling to get to the bar in these pubs because of the crowds,.. but now its very quiet.

excuses ive been given are, younger people would rather go on west street, its the imigrants, they give them houses round here but they dont drink alchohol, dont integrate,

the young teenagers would rather spend ten pounds on drugs than ten pound in the pub, any body got any answers?

How does creation of a new word to replace an existing phrase render the existing phrase meaningless? Surely it still exists and still holds the same meaning?

Plus, a great number of people use the phrase 'all be it' simply because:

a) they either don't know or don't care about the word albeit, or
b) it still actually does mean the same thing as it used to

Finally, why isn't the word albeit pronounced 'all-bayt'? Anyways, much as I love arguing the nuances of the English language, the fact is the phrase 'all be it' is still in use (as evidenced by our thread) and does, in fact, still mean the same as the word 'albeit'.

Well today i went to town to get my phone topped up. Then went to centertainment to see White Noise. Fantastic and very creepy film indeed. I later found out that the guy at Phones 4 U had served me with 1 £5 3Pay add on and 1 £10 3Pay add on instead of a general £15 topup and i cant use them until i have credit already on the phone ...

There are thousands of old words like this that are no longer in use. For example, in the same way that the current word "fortnight" is an old English contraction of fourteen nights, meaning two weeks, so the word "sevnight" was originally used to denote seven nights, or a week. This word is no longer in use and we all use the word "week" instead.

Likewise "all be it" is no longer in use and I suggest that when it does crop up, it is due to someone mis-hearing "albeit", not an attempt by the user to lapse into Middle English ;)

Yesterday was a busy one. Got up at about 11.30 for the better half to win an eBay auction (which she was dead chuffed about), then went to Meadowhell to get a PS2 memory card only to find they're ridiculously over-priced for a 8MB card so we got what else we needed and came home to search eBay for a cheaper option. Found a 32MB card and won it for £25 so that'll do for me. :D Then it was a KFC treat for us, watching Sea of Souls (sorry Ant. ) and playing Team Crash on Burnout3.

Today we're off to my mum n dad's for Sunday lunch. Yum. :D I should really be doing some college work but I can't be arsed and I've got a whole week to sort it out next week. Sunday is for resting. ;)

Yesterday, I spent the day house hunting.

Was amazed at the crap that is out there for ridiculous prices. Namely, a 2 bed terrace on Toyne St that was a total s***t tip, in need of a total refurb on for a princely sum of £110,000. The vendor hadn't even bothered to clean up.

Then a house in Lodge Moor, which looked promising. Marketed as a two bed semi, but you couldn't even fit a double bed in the "master" bedroom. Suppose should've suspected as much, given that it has been reduced from £129,950 to £112,000...

In all pretty depressing... :(

I spent a while house hunting in Sheffield and found it soul destroying, it's such hard work. I had very little time to relocate so I copped out of buying in the end and decided to rent a flat. I hope it gets better for you though Miss  I think its just one of those processes that takes a loooooooooong time, but will be worth it when you find your ideal pad

I'm glad of having such a tiny flat today... I've spent all morning washing, cleaning and polishing and I'm exhausted already! :P Imagine having two floors worth of rooms to deal with! :gag:
