We have seen some pretty appalling refereeing performances throughout the history of football. So which matches have seen the worst refereeing performances. I have picked out a few stinkers to take you down Memory Lane:

Paul Alcock. Remember it well. Remember Andy D'Urso backing away from a clutch of baying Manchester United players? And who could forget Gary Willard sending off three Barnsley players at Oakwell when they faced Liverpool? And who could forget THIS (http://news.bbc.co.uk/sport1/hi/football/world_cup_2006/4991538.stm)? Robbie Loving 22-10-2007, 22:09 The ref for Sheff Utd vs Cardiff few weeks since. Ah well.. theres been that many. briggy1967 22-10-2007, 22:50 Graham Poll at the last World Cup (3 yellow cards to the same player) Referee at weekends Liverpool Derby (Mark Kalsey) Referee in charge of Holland v England 1992 Euro Qualifiers when Koeman dragged back David Platt when he was clean on goal, only got a yellow card and then went on to score winner against us And worst ever.....Forte Posthouse F.C v Anvil F.C,didnt award us a penalty when Anvil goalie dragged me down just as i was gonna tap ball into back of net!!! happyhippy 22-10-2007, 23:09 Of the ones you've given, and albeit I've only ever seen the video, but the Weeds v West Bum match takes it for me. Must have been offside. Surely, it was offside. The one which you didn't mention which came to mind was a decision in extra time in the 1966 World Cup Final which, I believe, was quite contentious. Or were you saying that the Russian linesman's decision was final and not that of the referee, and so it wasn't the referee's decision :hihi:? BasilRathbon 23-10-2007, 08:25 Andy Woolmer in the Hereford Utd vs Aldershot Conference play off semi final in 2003/4. Ok, so maybe no-one else on the forum remembers it but if it wasn't for that **** sending off our centre half for an innocuous foul on the halfway line 20 minutes in, we'd have been back in the league 2 years earlier! Over the season we got 91 points, 103 goals scored and the side that went up finished 17 points behind us. Er....not that I'm a man to hold a grudge..... firecracker 23-10-2007, 09:13 Graham Poll at the last World Cup (3 yellow cards to the same player) Referee at weekends Liverpool Derby (Mark Kalsey) Referee in charge of Holland v England 1992 Euro Qualifiers when Koeman dragged back David Platt when he was clean on goal, only got a yellow card and then went on to score winner against us And worst ever.....Forte Posthouse F.C v Anvil F.C,didnt award us a penalty when Anvil goalie dragged me down just as i was gonna tap ball into back of net!!! That goal never was but was given, but compared with some of the others, that is pretty mild. West Germany didn't have two cast iron penalties waved away, nor did they have anyone sent off, nor did any England players escape what should have been a red card. In the 2006 World Cup match, both teams were hit equally hard by the referee, but with the rest, one team suffered disproportionately at the hands of the referee. Jonny5 23-10-2007, 13:43 Worst ref I can remember is the swine who allowed Man U 15 minutes injury time to come from behind at Hillsborough back in 1993. They would still be playing now if Man U were still behind! The referee in that match was never ever gonna let Utd lose, no matter how long it took :hihi: happyhippy 23-10-2007, 14:53 Andy Woolmer in the Hereford Utd vs Aldershot Conference play off semi final in 2003/4. Oh I remember it well, as the Bulls are my second side. It was a dreadful decision. |
