View Full Version : Manchester United - Premiership Champions 2007/08
firecracker 22-10-2007, 17:44 Now I am not a Manchester United supporter, but one thing that was clear from their 4-1 demolition of Aston Villa is that they will win the Premiership title - make no bones. Rooney and Tevez were outstanding, and Ronaldo didn't come on until 75 or so minutes had been played. After grinding out a string of 1-0 victories, they're now on fire, and will surely leave the rest standing after Christmas. Even Gerrard won't be able to wangle enough penalties and sending-offs to change this, and his club will make it 19 years without a League title to show for it.

:hihi: Wouldn't you just guess that Liverpool and Gerrard would be brought into it? :hihi:
And people say there is no conspiracy
As a sidenote: Was Ronaldo injured? Surely he was not rested and fergie was actually rotating his squad? Well I never. And before everyone quotes the result; It's irelivent! Many Man Utd fans (and fans in general) on here and on other boards have slated Rafa for resting or rotating players such as Torres etc. Fergie does it and not a mention, not a whisper! Funny that!
scottishdude 24-10-2007, 09:04 For once Chelsea can't be accused of Rotation Syndrome. Players get injured and are replaced and the same goes for Arsenal and Man City. Hopefully Chelsea are back on form now and with Ballack waiting in the wings and Alex slotting in nicely for Terry let's hope we start climbing the ladder again. Man Utd are on a roll again and it looks like Chelsea and Arsenal are the only 2 teams capable of stopping them. I think Liverpool are over rotating and Saturdays game is crucial for them. Let's hope they do well tonight so it boosts their confidence.
I think arsenals 'kids' will be top of the league all season but buckle to a last minute man u comeback in the last few weeks, chelsea third, man city 4th and liverpool 5th with blackburn hot on there hells.

Do you still hold this opinion after the way Arsenal played last night?
Yup, only thing that worries me is injuries, Ronaldo Rooney Tevez perhaps. But im really happy Walcott is taking form now!
Testing times will come when we play them..
Guderian 24-10-2007, 10:44 I will make a decision once after the next few games.
Arsenal play Liverpool then United.
And I think about 7 of their next 10 games are away.
So perhaps they are in a slightly false position, we shall see.
Liverpool wont figure though.

After the Arsenal game (which Liverpool are well capable of winning at Anfield) Liverpool have a run of games that are all within their capabilities to win:
Liverpool v Arsenal
Blackburn v Liverpool
Liverpool v Fulham
Newcastle v Liverpool
Liverpool v Bolton
Reading v Liverpool
Then come's the big one (at Anfield)
If the game is anything like the one last season, surely Utd can't pull off another snatch and grab!
Liverpool v Man Utd
Then it's back to a nice run of games that should see maximum points!
Liverpool v Portsmouth
Derby v Liverpool
Liverpool v Wigan
Middlesbrough v Liverpool
Now if you match those against Arsenal's upcoming fixtures:
Liverpool v Arsenal
Arsenal v Man Utd
Reading v Arsenal
Aston Villa v Arsenal
Newcastle v Arsenal
Middlesbrough v Arsenal
Arsenal v Tottenham
Portsmouth v Arsenal
Everton v Arsenal
I think looking at that, Liverpool have more than a good chance of making up the 6 points we are currently behind them. If Arsenal still figure after these run of games, i'm almost positive Liverpool will.
Whatif wewin 24-10-2007, 12:39 The end result will pobably be Arsenal
Man U
Chelsea
Man City
Liverpool
Everton
Newcastle
Pompey
rajivsingh 24-10-2007, 12:41 arsenal were awesome. If liverpool win on sunday then they are clearly title contenders but I cant see that happening; after last night, no way!
I ve always had a grudging respect for arsenal. they are a bunch of cissies but they are playing such exciting football right now.
Persie out on sunday will hurt them though.
And probably gerrard running about pulling out red cards from the refs pocket wont help much either!

Yeah that's it, make you're excuses now  Cos it was Gerrard who sent off Hibbert wasn't it?
Don't go into that mate. It's already been debated on here and most are in agreement that Gerrard had every right to do what he did! Everton players did exactly the same when Kuyt recieved a yellow for his lunge! Because the referee came to the right decision on only one occasion, is not Gerrards fault, it's the referee's.
Let's just leave it there shall we!

That's it then we can't talk about St Gerrard anymore... pity he could not influence the ref in the England v Russia match though.
No I will leave it there
honest.

He did manage to influence the result though, in a bad way by missing the simple chance that would have surely put us into the finals.

Stop it now.
You can't critiscise St Gerrard it's not allowed.
We must leave it there now ok.

You can stop trying to upset me Mr Whatif ..... I'm sat chilled with some cans and my cigar, with my feet up awaiting to be entertained with some scintilating football by Mr Gerrard himself :D
I'm absolutely un-upsetable :hihi:

What channel is it on anyway I thought Chelsea's match was on tonight?
Not that I will be watching, there is an extremely interesting program on tonight about badgers and their habitats.
O by the way when smoking your panetella ella ella ella,
(sorry about that, that bloody song) and drinking from your can
( such class)
don't do a Darren: (Anthony’s mate from the Royle Family) and flick your ash in to your white lightening, although some do say it improves the taste, it actually fuddles the mind faster than drinking 70/proof alcohol and you might start imagining things that are not really happening …or is it too late for my advice?

You know... we must go for a night out drinking sometime...... I bet you're a right laugh

They play more or less same teams and i dont think Pompey will be an easy game for Liverpool neither Blackburn or Newcastle i think Arsenal will win it this year after gettin rid of Henry it has made them stronger he thouht he was bigger than team

They play Villa, Pompey and Everton away (Liverpool have already played these fixtures - 7 pts) which won't be easy at all. In their home games they have Spurs (liverpool already played) and Man Utd! The Spurs game is a derby in which form goes out of the window, and Utd as we all know is never easy.
I can see Arsenal dropping a few points out of that lot!
Having said that, it's obvious they will be there or there abouts come the end of the season. I just think with the upcoming fixtures, leading into the African Nations (in which Arsenal will lose a few players) it will be hard for them to maintain this current form and will maybe just fall short this season. I do feel though that now they have a well documanted 'pot of cash' to spend, that when a few more quality squad players are added, Arsenal will be well on their way to another league title!!! Maybe next season!!

And Liverpool have lost 2-1 against Besiktas. Still, it seems Hyypia has started a scoring run - thats now two own goals in two matches.
Liverpool will also drop points from there games Pompey could beat them are an underrated team Arsenal will suffer in Jan with 3-4 players off to African Nations but i think they will ride it out Liverpool have lost 2-1 to Besiktas though so might have a better shout if out of champs league
firecracker 24-10-2007, 21:19 It is obvious who Liverpool missed most tonight: Mark Clattenburg :hihi:
JFKvsNixon 24-10-2007, 22:35 The ref was probably tempted by some of Gerrards 'suggestions' and 'recomendations' but he probably was more aware of the 30,000 screaming Turkish supporters.
plekhanov 24-10-2007, 22:46 Don't you guys realise Liverpool losing again is all just part of Benitez's cunning plan fail so completely in Europe that they don't even have the EUFA cup to distract them from failing to win the premiership?
JFKvsNixon 24-10-2007, 22:55 I'd allways thought that the idea behind rotation was to keep your important player fresh, and be able to compete in more than one competition.
canadablade 25-10-2007, 01:08 gerrard running about pulling out red cards from the refs pocket wont help much either!
Now thats funny :hihi::hihi:
Gerrard certainley knows how to con the refs and how did the ref not give Everton a pen at the end :huh:

Maybe Rafa gave Fergie a bell pre-season to get a few tips on how to fail so completely in Europe hey? ;)
Guderian 25-10-2007, 09:41 Rafa must stay!
Rafa must stay!
Loving your work Rafa!! :hihi:

At least when Fergie is failing in Europe he is mopping up your Holy Grail, the title.
Nearly 2 decades now, and you are as far away as you have ever been.
Look at Arsenal and United on Tues. Look at Pool last night.
Huge difference in the fluidity and movement.
Pool are pedestrian at times.
rajivsingh 25-10-2007, 09:59 before we get too OTT about liverpool it is fair to point out that Utd blew it 2 years ago and didnt even get to the 2nd stage. the calls for fergie to go were amazing at the time and thank god he did not get the sack.
Having said that i still wonder if rafa was watching the same game as me. he s quoted on bbc website as saying if we play that well we could win the champions league? really! what a plonker!
sunday is looking like a big big game now.
I think they really missed mark clattenberg last night. His presence all over the pitch would have been felt!
BasilRathbon 25-10-2007, 10:04 I've heard that Liverpool have arranged to combine their end of season party with their Christmas one........

Agreed!
Whilst watching the game last night I noticed that not only were Liverpool playing badly, it also was apparent that they just didn't seem to know what to do to break Besiktas down. No idea's, no fluidity and no imagination! I think Rafa needs to let the players express themselves a little more instead of giving every player strict instructions on what to do! When watching United and Arsenal recently you can see that Fergie and Wenger have the defense and the defensive midfield players well drilled but the forward thinking players just seem to be allowed to play freely and without a rigid gameplan, almost as if their manager just says to them; "go out there and cause havoc". Liverpool need to be playing like this without the players having fear of being lambasted by Rafa for neglecting their defensive duties. It's almost like they are scared to try anything inventive because of fear of it not coming off.
I agree with you Guddy! Although Liverpool get alot of good results throughout a season, playing without imagination and creativity will always bring along those type of games that a strict tactical strategy will only get you a draw, and if the strategy fails, a loss.
Poor form like this can't continue forever though and hopefully we can start a run of wins against Arsenal on Sunday! I'm not holding my breath though!
Whatif wewin 26-10-2007, 09:44 I've heard that Liverpool have arranged to combine their end of season party with their Christmas one........

If they do win Liverpool would be a massive 3 points behind the untouchable Arsenal! I wonder if people will still be calling for Rafa's head after Liverpools best start to a Premiership season having lost some really big players in the proccess such as Carra, Agger, Alonso and Torres? Also, the fact that Rafa is doing the assistant managers job currently, is added stress and workload he could do without!
Liverpool lose tommorow and it won't be the end of the world considering some of Arsenals upcoming away fixtures plus the loss of a few important senior players during the African Nations Cup.
Liverpool win tommorow and they will be 3 points behind a team that everyone has been totally raving about for weeks! Where is the problem, I ask all these 'experts'?
