Can someone tell me if dental treatment done on the NHS is it free or do we still have to pay?

I was under the impression that NHS dental work was made free by the government recently - am I wrong?

Cheers

This is from the NHS Dentist web site. I'm not aware of any recent changes

I go to a NHS dentists and still have to pay. From what i've heard its a lot cheaper than going to a private one. Had a lot of work done recently and it came to less than £80.

I know I used to go to Charles Clifford in Sheffield for my dental treatment- I loved it there!

I know they are training to become dentists but its the most relaxed I've ever been in a dental chair.

Apart from when they numb the wrong side of your mouth for you mind-- but hey, its free- so who cares right!

I think that might have made headline news ;)

Exemption is means tested but you have to be virtually on the crumb line before it's free

If you are claiming any of the benefits like working family's tax credits etc., then dental care is free. Dental hospital I think is free but, note that you will only be seen at the dental hospital if you are not registered with any dentist. Even in emergency you must go to your own dentist who by law then has to see you within twenty four hours (a long time if you are in pain).
