We had a cold caller (charities) at the door yesterday (Sunday).
She had more ID cards round her neck than a D-Day captain collecting dead GI's dog-tags.
What is really annoying I have no less than 3 stickers in full view that say "We do not buy/trade at the door. No canvassers ..." etc
We were both having an afternoon nap when the silly bint nearly knocked the front door in setting the dog off in a yapping frenzy.
She wasn't representing the British Heart Foundation but appeared to be drumming up custom for them :loopy:
Why can't these people read? :help:

Maybe someone should start up a charity to help the poor deprived bogus charity collectors of this world?

Someone came to the door the other day to ask for money for deaf children, I politely refused him but I didnt even think to check if he was legit. Could barely speak english though, so barely understood my refusal either
If you get any fliers thru the door requesting old clothes/household goods etc which appear to be going to aid Third World/Eastern European charities etc look for a registered charity number on the flier.
All legitimate charities have a registered number which they must display. If they haven't got one, they're a con.

We were stung by this about a month ago, before we realised such awful scams existed. Got rid of a load of very good quality branded clothes and household products. Thought it was a good cause, so spent a few days sorting things.
I actually saw the white van pick them up, the guys looked so suspicious. That very night, I read a post about fraudulent collections. I was so very shocked.

we dont give money to anyone that comes to the door, or put out clothes for people that post fliers.
we take clothes etc to charity shop and only give money to donation boxes in shops.

Aye it's been on a few programs on TV recently, and was featured on a BBC2 phone in (Jeremy Vine Show). It seems there's big money to be made selling the clothes to people in 3rd world countries at rock bottom prices.
Pretty easy if your stock is free I guess.

Had a leaflet from a company called Lunetex Ltd. pushed through my door this week promoting a "THIRD WORLD CLOTHING COLLECTION - URGENTLY NEEDED" on Friday 22 August between 9am and 7pm. Now normally I recycle these straight into my blue bin but this collection just happens to coincide with a separate collection being run by Bluebell Wood Hospice (who kindly provide a bag for the purpose), so I thought I'd just check if Lunetex are licensed. Contacted SCC's Licensing Section who confirmed they have no record of them, so they are not licensed for road side collections in SHEFFIELD.
I know where I'd prefer my donations to go. Please be vigilant.
I got an unusual phone call yesterday from someone saying they were from a society for the blind(can't remember which one) the lady asked for my husband by name and then went on when i said he wasn't in the woman tried to sell me raffle tickets over the phone, When i said i wasn't interested she asked would i take a penny box it all seemed a bit strange might of been genuine but i don't like being phoned at home.
