ive been wanting a hd tv for a while now and considering getting one this weekend, i also have an xbox360 which im wanting to run on the tv. my question is, has anyone tried a 360 on a true hd tv at 1080p? as i know there are hd ready tvs but will only display at 1080i, is there a big difference? please only reply if you know and not just opinions. thanks

i know the older 360s didnt have a hdmi socket on the back as the new ones do, as the rgb cable would only let you run on 1080i max, anyway as my brothers 1080p tv wont run on 1080p with the 360 but then again hes got an old 360 :hihi:

I have a 1080p and there is not a lot off difference to be honest. But you do need to have an elite with HDMI which more difference as the connections are better.
1080p is nice, but you should consider the size of the screen and how far away from the screen you'll generally sit as well as looking for a set with excellent contrast levels, colour, saturation...all that jazz. You might get a better 720p set for cheaper than a not as good 1080p set and save quite a bit of money.
Having said that, I have a 1080p set and love it! :)
I didn't think that the 360 did 1080p output.

as stated my new 360 has the hdmi socket on and it isnt the elite model either its the white premium one, and i was going to take advantage of the hdmi connection on a 1080p tv as the older 360s only have the rgb socket and can only display at a max of 1080i other wise the screen goes blank, but what i wanted to know was is there much difference between both and im looking for 37" tv, thanks.

on hd settings is 1080p as well but when you press on it the screen goes blank, the reason being is the rgb cable will only display upto 1080i, so needing a hdmi cable to run on 1080p with the new 360s as the older ones dont support hdmi.

1080p - if your TV can display it - is always the better option. 1080i is okay, but it's still alternating 540 lines, so 720p can sometimes be a preferred option.
My new gaming rig (PC > Consoles) is designed for 1080p from the get go. Bioshock and UT3 are going to be sweeeeeeeet....

Another thing to consider is that there are very few 360 games that run natively in 1080i or 1080p. Most run at 720p and upscale using the 360's built-in video scaling chip.

just read a review that microsoft are telling gaming companies to stick to 720p and 1080i as more pixels mean less frame rates, as i know this is true as i game on pc too, but where talking about a console here :(
