I am looking for a restaurant possibly around London road or Ecclesall road to go on a date to. I have been instructed to find somewhere a bit jazzy, not in the sence of Jazz music. Italian is first choice but we are open to what food we eat, somewhere near a nice bar or pub to go in after before we go to town.

I have searched but can't find any answers with old threads so can anyone reccomend as I only know Rossi's and Nonnas but want somewhere different.

Thanks,

Duffman-Oh yeah!!

If you keep on heading out of town towards Dore you could try Carriages or if you fancy, Delhi Junction.

Never heard of these places, what are they, Italian? Will I end up like your Avatar if I go to them surrounded with beer cans? cause I hope so:clap:

Carriages has got a website - http://www.carriagesrestaurant.co.uk/ that has their menu/prices on. I've not been myself but friends have recommended it and I guess it would make a welcome change from the Eccy Rd regulars. When I've been past it the parking looks OK (in fact it looks like an old car showroom and I wouldn't be surprised if it once was). I'm not sure how you'd get in/out of town if you didn't want to drive, it's on a main road but I don't know how good the buses are from there.

Cheers for that link. I have actually been there the picture reminded me of it, not to eat but to pick up a friend. I know the buses that run there but I will taxi it there and to town, not good to bus around on a date IMO.

Cheers for the link.

Chez Lahlou - French restaurant in Commonside.

I keep shouting its praises and will do so here.

West 10 Bistro in Ranmoor is just the thing you're looking for. It's intimate, the food is top notch and when you've eaten you can pop downstairs to the bar and try out some fine wines (Cloudy Bay @ £35 is out of this world) whilst you wait for your cab to take you into town.

Book in advance, take plenty of dosh and simply enjoy. Oh, and it's surrounded by three other pubs and on the main 60 bus route into town.

Marco At Milano maybe ? It's not as far out as carriages. IMHO Carriages a bit over-rated but could be we went on a bad night.

There's loads of places close to eccy road - Meditaranian on Sharrowvale rd is good - not had a bad meal their, but have heard it can be a bit hit and miss.

Wouldn't go to 5 4 3 as you may not get a table as they don't take bookings.

Thyme in x-pool - but then problem with where to go for a nice drink after.

That's an idea i'm saving for a lazy Sunday. There's a few place I like to go to in the summer.

I may try the Baan Thai on London road, a work collegue has given it the thumbs up, but now I have been told to lower the class of where we go so it may just be Nonnas or somewhere like that now.

If you want low class go to Maria's in Crookes ;)

Well it's Nonnas then but thanks for all the suggestions as I have written them down for next time. Will be going to a quiet peak district pub one sunday.

if you want a decent pub with good beer and a wonderful array of whiskies then try the Hardwick Inn, it's just off the M1 at junction 29.

Looks nice that Owdlad, I don't have transport so it will be a bugger to get to unless my lovely lady passes her driving test soon

Just reading some of the Beers on tap make me thirsty :P 160 Whiskey's wow! I need to get there soon:hihi:

I have no idea what you mean ;) Is there any public transport that goes near there? As I will be visiting.

None at all Duffman, in fact without some local knowledge you would struggle to find it, it's so out of the way.

Ok, the restaurant is set but it's been so long since I was on Eccy road I don't know what pubs and bars are on there or around. Can anyone recommend some nice bars or pubs, are there any late bars in the area?

The Porterbrook is a nice pub (the old Church) and The Lescar and Porter Cottage are also nice (just off Eccy Rd)

nonnas is groovy IMO. you hear a lot of italian in there at least, and the food is pretty good too.
