I was there from 1980 to 1984 - mostly against my will it has to be said! :hihi:

Is there anyone else willing to admit they were there too? :hihi:

Yes i was there between 1972 and 1976, bit older than you then! It had a very bad reputation at the time and we heard some horror stories before we started going, but when you got used to it, it wasnt really a bad place. Ashleigh across the road used to think they were a bit above us, but there was good and bad at both schools. Made some lifelong friends there that i am still in touch with so it wasnt a bad prison sentence! What teachers do you remember?

Oh blimey, now you're testing my memory : ) Mr Cox was the Head, nice bloke must admit, he wasn't the typical Mr Turton or Mr Houdmont (thank God!!). They were both there but I seem to remember at least one retiring before I left... not sure on that one. There was also Mrs Smith, very strict and upright, didn't take much grief before she exloded. I had a form teacher called Mr Jennings who was also one of the Phsics bods, he seemed weird at first but was a good laugh once you got to know him. There was also Mrs Matthews (PE), Mr Shutt (English), Mr Guest (RE), Mrs Kirkpatrick (Music), Mr Savage & Mr Deeks (French) there was also a married couple there, she did music and he taught RE/Sex Ed, can't recall their names. How can I forget... there was also Dennis Ashton who left teaching in schools and went on to do the Stardome which travelled around local schools which is how he ended up also teaching my daughter - bet that made him feel well old! : )

Wow they are names from the past, a few i recognise as being there when i went. Mr Adams was the head, his deputy being the fearsome Mr Houdmont, he really was scary wasnt he? Mr Jennings, Mr Savage, Mrs Matthews and Mr Turton i remember. Were the married couple called Hartley, remember him teaching RE. Mr Moxon was the art teacher who went on to become the Head, couldnt see that happening at the time! My favourite teacher was Miss Jepson in the drama department, dont know if you knew her. I was in the drama group and my happiest times were spent messing about in the drama room. She taught my daughter at Intake School a few years ago and we had a nice chat about old times. Was the home economics teacher Mrs Woofe there, I had a real crush on her and she used to do the costumes for the school plays and remember the anticipation when she summoned me for a costume fitting! going red now!

caronlel
19-10-2007, 09:06
Yeah, completely forgot about Mrs Woofe! There was also a needlework teacher who was a real footballers wife - in more ways than one! I never knew so many lads want to take up a needle and thread in my life! : ) Hartleys, that was the name, he had a beard and was expert on all maner of STD's if I recall, don't know how the woman put up with him! : ) Drama teachers when I was there... hmmm, Mr Wood who resembled John Lennon and had a passion for running the New York Marathon and Mrs Ward who had a room next to the East Dining Room - painted totally black on the inside if I recall. The other drama room was up the stairs in the foyer, near to the dark room if I remember right. Mr Moxon was still the Art teacher when I was there - I would never have had him down as Head material so that has come as a surprise! He seemed a bit too rough around the edges, especially with his birds nest beard : ) He was a good teacher though I must admit and what he didn't teach me about perspective and how to unravel a film in a black bag tied around my wrists isn't worth knowing : )

Went by the school recently and, as well as being called Myrtle Springs now, they have built something on the school fields. Does anyone know what it is. Looks like its cost a few bob! Noticed the East block is still standing, they used to say it was falling down 30 years ago, and the West block is still there and that was even older. What happened to the youth club, is it being used for something else now. That was a great place when it first opened, for those who can remember it had great facilities and even had a disco, with saloon doors and was dark inside like a night club!

They used to have bizzarre things in there like Sponsored Darts Marathons and "Stay-Awakes" and stuff which just ended up in very sleepy, hyperactive teenagers doing strange things such as changing the letters around on the price board at the coffee bar to say weird things such as Arse Bars (Mars Bars), Nostrils (Minstrels), Milky Shame (Milky Way), Stripper (Striper - omg what ever happened to those??) and Small Geezer (Maltesers). It wasn't me.... honest, I just happen to be married to one of the culprits! : )

Yep I was there too!

Must admit though, I had forgot most of the teachers names. Shameful. Can anyone remember Mr Carr? Little and fat with a bald head. At least I think that was his name. He was once my head of year, and liked to get all the girls in his office.

Amazing how "Careers" teachers have a way of crushing your dreams... the one I had, who for obvious reasons shall remain nameless, asked me my future plans. When I told him that I wanted to study forensics with a view to maybe becoming a forensic scientist or even a psychologist his exact words were... "stop taking the p*ss".... NICE!

I hold him totally responsible for the fact I now work in finance!!!!

Started at Hurlfield in 61 and left in 66.

At the time definitely no, now, looking back, reckon it was more than OK, decent headmaster, Len Egerton and teachers were a fair mix.

Anyone remember that daft inflatable gym they spent thousands on, it lasted about a day.
I was in Mr Edwards form 2L, at the top of the tower, poor bloke was killed by a bus wasn't he. I remember we had a special assembly for it, and some lass broke down in tears and fled the hall, sad day, he was a good teacher.

I really liked Mr Turton, there was a story going around that he and Mr Houdmont caught some lads smoking near the toilets that were near the woodwork/metal work classes, they were crouched down by the steps that led into the toilets hidden behind the bushes, From what i can remember the two teachers made out they wanted to urinate and couldn't be arsed to go into the loo, they then proceeded to pour a bottle of water over the lads. I had him for English for a while after Mr Bell, who i can't remember at all, then there was Mrs Ward who I thought was great, used to really grate on her nerves when i'd hand reams of work in with no punctuation at all in it.
Mr Deeks for French which I hated.
Mr Greenhoff for geography,
Mrs Kirkpatrick for music.
Mr Nettleship for woodwork,
Miss Conners and Miss Olivant for biology, god i loved those women, I had such a crush on them.
Mr Hill history teacher, he always said i was a polite and helpful boy.
Mr Guest and Mrs Howson for RE, great teacher Mr Guest, told some wonderful stories.
Good old Mr Wood for drama.
Mr Moxon and Mr Day for art.
Mrs Parkin was headteacher in my first year.
Jennings for physics,
Kyte and McClusky for maths,
Mr Tomkins and Naylor for PE.
Mr Kesterton then became our form teacher and my history teacher, I thought he was alright but i know a lot of pupils disagreed.
Mr Pringle for technology, didn't get on with him, said I was a day dreamer, talked about his boat a lot.
I remember a daft class in the fifth year called guidence with a teacher called Hughes, what was that about.
Mr Ashton for Astronomy and other mad stuff.

Gabby, Eef, Fez, Daz Phillips, Mally, Richard Cutts, Neil Lennon, Ian Teather, Lesley, Bonny, Steve Rhodes and many many more

Hi
I used to go there between 70 -75.
Good crowd all barking mad. Got caught by Mr turton smoking behind bottom pavillion with andrew gillott ( spready ) , escorted to mr houdemont? and recieved cane and then put back in class and asked to write why we were punished !! couldn't hold bloody pen .. once tried to be clever and throw a plastic set squre in a room but hit some poor bugger in face , but as usual no one snitched on me when teacher was going mad ( all heroes ) while I was ther a Mrs ashberry ? took us for something she was nice ( very nice !) and mr savage with those bloody earphones learning french..
also there were gary mason, steve wragg , karen & susan the twins ,keith pheonix , plattsy , mick doors, lots of gorgeous girls in 5.1 ,5.2 etc and I think a maths teacher ended up with one of them ( lucky chuff ).and the rumours of a young biology teacher with a pupil ?what was that all about ?we did have a couple of re - unions which were excellent. and the annual pilgrimage across the fields to ashleigh school to face their lot at end of term. crazy but memorable.

you must have been in the year above me i left in 76, remember all the teachers you mention, forgot all about the french lab(!) with the headphones and mr Savage who lived up to his name a lot! We had a french student teacher for a short time and she was gorgeous, never paid more attention than that short period...i went to 2 of the reunions at the trades club bottom of city road, were you there for those? They were great and a good time was had, particularly as we wore name badges so you had a clue who people used to be when they had hair....ive forgotten about all the bad times at that school, only remember the good, it wasnt as bad as people made out was it? remember having loads of laughs

What's going on? There's now 3 Hurlfield threads running in the first two pages all about the same thing I'm getting confused now?
Can someone sort out this mess and close any that seem to be dead?

I also went there '77-82' - loved it! - met my husband of 22 years there! The 'fit' sewing teacher footballer WAG was Liz Rhodes (hubby played for Rotherham). Does anyone remember going to the school farm "Brownhead" nr Pickering? Tried looking for it a couple of years ago to no avail. I was in Mr Nettleship and then Mr Tompkins form.
I had Mr Iqbal for English who once I had left , found out where i was working and did a bit of stalking! Heard he then got arrested for damaging Debenhams Window!...but not sure how reliable the source for that was!!! I really think my time there was fabulous - a great grounding for life. A few names (across 3 year groups) Tracy Wilson, Julie/Sue Buxton, David Congo,Gaynor/Mark Manning,Sally Buzzeo,Alison Smith,Winston Hazel,Pete Wragg, Jeanette Taylor and Tracey Holland to name a few. I wish my daughter had the same school life today - happy days! I was Tracy C in them days hubby Paul H

I think you must have been in the same year as one of my brothers. Mark and Darran Woodhead, probably Darran. I can recall the teachers you have mentioned, but think you might have been in the year above me.

Hi, i went to Prince Edwards then on to Hurlfield, i left in 1984.I had a couple of different form teachers one which i remember well was Mr Iqbal,he was a small man with a quick temper and often could not control the class. He used to throw the wooden blackboard rubber full of chalk at everyone including girls ,if you had an english lesson with him you could guarantee it would be a riot .People in my form were Tracy Barrett,Joanne Cartwright(i used to sit with them) Leigh Cope,Janine Lunn, Jeanette Marsden,Paul Czerwinski Stephen Batty others i remember are Gail Cooke Anita Knight Joanna Ramsey Gaynor White ,i cant think of any more at the moment.

Part One

I went to Hurlfield from last quarter of third year and the full fourth year. 68 - 69. Names I remember:- First the goodies:- Steve Booth, Frank Longden, Steve (Spud) Murphy, Stephen Poole, Stephen (Spadger) Smith, Stephen (Corky) Thorpe, Kevin Newsome, Jeff Linder, Peter Coward, Chris Thompson, Alan Batham, Matt Corrigan, Jon (?) Wasnidge, David Eller, Martyn Bragg, Mark Bee, Nigel Ardron (John Fantham's nephew), Harry Flinders, Alex Uttley, Fred Furness and his twin brother Bill, Glyn Zadora, Len Southern, Ronnie Crouch, there was another lad we called Steps because his mum used to cut his hair and it looked like steps from the back, or maybe he had had an argument with a lawn mower and lost ! Can't remember his name. Next the baddies - Teachers:- 2 x Mr. Hartley, Mr Turton, Mr. Nunn, Mr. Kennedy, Mr. Kirk, Mr. Ring, Mr. Marshall (beanhead), Mr. Pop Adams, Mr Houdmont, Mr. Tompkins, Mr. Hurst, Mr. Taffy Morgan, Mr. Crawshaw, Mr. Jennings, Mr. Standing, Mr. Pringle, Mr. Scott, Mr. Curzon, Mr. Dunford, Mr. (Pifel)Battams (his slipper didn't hurt), Mr. Godbehere, Miss Easley, Miss Double (wow), and finally another goodie, Horace the groundsman, caretaker He allowed us to smoke in his hut, top man, during playtime in winter his hut was so welcoming because he always had his stove on the go and it was piping hot although the hut stunk big style.

Part Two

I would like to relate a few anecdotes during me time at Hurlfield. Hope you like them, they may be of interest or somebody may remember the happenings.

1. In the fourth year our class took Geography in the new block and the teacher was Mr Hurst who wanted us lads to do a project of our choice. I chose to do the history of the coal industry and when I got home I promptly wrote a letter to The National Coal Board (N.C.B), I received a reply within a few days with brochures and loads of info's. I copied it up word for word and handed my project in with drawings that I had traced. The following week (?) Hursty read out to class the markings he had given to each individual and his reasons for the markings and when it came to my turn I was very shocked when he gave me an 'A' and said that I had vastly improved and that I should be very proud. That was the only 'A' that I had ever received during my total schooling!

2. During our final week at school Mr Turton had arranged for Mr Dick Wragg who was chairman or president at Sheffield United F.C. to come to our class to hand out our school leavers certificates. Mr Turton told us before hand to come out to the front of class when your name was called shake hands with Mr Wragg, take your certificate, say thankyou then return to your desk. Everyone obeyed and things were running smoothly until my name was called. I made my way to the front shook hands, took my certificate and uttered thanks then asked "Mr. Wragg, why did you sell Mick Jones?" He hesitated then smiled and said "we would liked to have kept him but sometimes players like to move to another club if they have ambition to better themselves". (or words to that effect). I glanced at Mr Turton and If looks could kill then I would have been a goner!

3. A few weeks prior to leaving school for good we had a visit from Mr Longdo(e)n the careers bloke who had been sent to interview us kids to find out what we would like to be when we left school. I was already fixed up with a job at Davy'son Fargate as a warehouseman, Mr Longdon didn't know that. When it came to my turn to be interviewed Mr Longdon asked me what would I like to be and i replied "A Latin teacher in a nursery school". He smiled then told me not to waste his time, then showed me the door!

Part Three

1. I remember in the fourth year it was announced to the four classes in our year that there was going to be a trip to Thorpe Hesley scouts camp with a two night stay over so go and tell your mum's and dads it'll cost 30 Bob (?) it might have been 2 quid, let us know as soon as poss, those not going will stay in school and do maths and tech drawing. My mother allowed me to go (two days without me would be bliss for her)so next day i paid my dosh for the trip. Twenty or so made the trip and when Mr Turton said, "From this moment on there will be no sirs and no surnames, my name is Keith and his name (mr. Standing) is Brian and yes you can smoke but not in the tents or there will be big trouble. Enjoy yourselves lads". Wow...We had a great time. Cheers Keith and Bri(y)an.

2. During the final year our form teacher Mr Turton called me out to the front of class and told me to get 'the fags out', I said that I didn't smoke and he said he would cane me for lying if I didn't get them out. I sheepishly withdrew fags out of my blazer pocket to give them to him but he told me to light up. With hesitation I lit up and the rest of class were stunned and me too, then Mr Turton took the whitest hankerchief you will ever see out of his pocket and opened it up and told me to draw on the fag and put my mouth to the hankie and blow un-inhaled smoke onto it. The result was a large yellowy brown stain on the white hankie, then he showed it to the class then said, "if that's what it looks like on a hankie just think what your lungs will look like if you don't stop smoking so cut it out". Then the next surprise was that he sent me to the window, told me to open it then told me to hang my head out of the window and finish my fag. When I was finished he told me and the others that if he caught us smoking he would severely cane us. Weird when you think he used to pull his inhaler out every few minutes, he also like to mention his daughter Judith a lot.
I was saddened when I read that he had died the other year. That man was the only teacher I ever respected out of all teachers I have come across and I went to three senior schools! Cheers Sir. (teacher, dad and uncle rolled into one).

Part Four

1. Mr Houdmont always threatened that I anyone misbehaved he would come down on them like a ton of bricks and "YE GODS I PUT MY FULL FIFTEEN STONES OF WEIGHT BEHIND MY CANINGS SO BEWARE". Ye gods he got four of us one day and we received a thrashing we would never forget (I can still feel it now almost forty two years later). We thoroughly deserved a good caning for what we did because children can be cruel and we did something cruel. The day had started like any other as we made our way to assembly and as we arrived the teachers on the stage looked somewhat pale and withdrawn with sad faces so we knew summat was up. Then it was announced Mr Kirk the music teacher had died during the night. Foolishly and shamefully four of us decided to let out a loud cheer as if a goal had been scored. Ye gods i'll never forget the caning.

On another occasion we were having sport and our class was playing football on a rainy day and during play I got the water laden caseball in the crown jewels point blank range and I went down like a sack of taters. I was in serious agony and when I'm in pain I need to be on my own until the pain has abated. Anyway, the teacher Mr Tompkins comes over to enquire and he turned me over on to my back and was concerned and asked me if I was okay. Even though Mr Tompkins was a mild mannered person I didn't want the attention so I raised both feet in the air and with wet muddied boots I quickly brought my two feet together with his head between and chopped his ears. He then immediately dragged me over the field to Houdmont's office in muddy football kit and I received some more 'ye gods' and that was more pain to go with my still aching nadgers! Wonder if Mr Tompkins ears are still singing?......I was lucky not to have got x-pelled.

Part Five

1. Mr Ring was our teacher for chemistry, how he didn't have a heart attack or why he never got ulcers is beyond me. The science lessons were a shambles to put it mildly, he was screaming for us to shut up, threatening us with the headmaster and exclusion and we just continued to shout, whistle , sing and blow what looked like two foot long square wooden 'flutes'. I cant remember what they were used for though. Something to do with science. We were very cruel to mentally torture him like that, he certainly earned his wages having to deal with us.

2. At Hurlfield I didn't have my dinner in school because the meals were crap, the meals at my former school (Birley) were better. I used to go home for my din dins, at twelve o'clock four or five of us would go through the back entrance back into Sheffield 12 and stand at the corner outside the Punch Bowl pub and wait to see if the No. 51 bus came first or the no. 30, we would take whichever one came first but my preference was no. 30 because it was open backed and I could jump off going up Ridgeway Road level with Crossland Drive my latest address. Alternatively some of us would go to the Arbourthorne shopping precinct and each lad would buy a half of a Farmhouse loaf then go to the chippy and buy a portion of chips then with dirty fingers pull the bread out from inside the loaf then bung the chips in the hole pour vinegar on the chips then ram the bread back in creating a nice big square sandwich and that was really filling.

3. Quite often at play-time there would be a group of us lads sometimes as many as twelve in the little lads lounge, the one nearest to the woodwork, metalwork rooms. We would be sharing a single fag usually a parkie or a woodie, you were only allowed one drag then you passed it to the next lad, if you were unlucky to be at the back of the queue you would get the fag with the end all wazzed up then you'd get tobacco bits in yer' gob. Tuff......

Part Six

This my penultimate part about my Hurlfield School days is only for the broadminded and members of the Dirty Raincoat Brigade (D.R.B.). Parental Guidance.

At my two previous senior schools there was a mixture of girls and boys and that was good because I had at an early age learned about the birds and bees and that girls were an important part of a boys life. It was nice to see and hear girls chatting and giggling, their sweet faces, lovely hair, gorgeous legs and the rest. At Hurlfield there was some girls in the new block, but I was in the old block and that was boys only and that was ruddy frustrating believe me. However, there was also two teacheresses Miss Double and Miss Easley (why are female teachers called Miss, don't they ever marry?). There was another one but i can't remember her name so let's forget about her. Firstly Miss Easley taught in the new block and if you (I) ever strolled at snails pace past her classroom with a big glass panel in the door y u (I) would often see her flashing her legs right up to the top of her thighs and you (I) would more often than not see her tight tops (dark part) not forgetting the tights were of the flesh coloured type and not the dreaded black ones (liquorice legs). Miss Double was teaching in the old (boys) block, I don't know who she was teaching and I don't care either, all i knew was that when she walked along the corridor I was instantly mesmerized. Miss Double wore mini skirts and she had a gorgeous pair of pins I can tell you. Following her upstairs was heaven especially if you (I) was ten steps behind her with your (my) neck seven steps in front of the rest of your (my) body. When she climbed the stairs you (I) could sometimes hear my favourite sound......the rasping of stockings......pure electricity!
Cold shower please......

P.S. This was written on behalf of a least sixty nine other lads , I wasn't the only admiring dirty sod in school!

Part Seven

Free taxi home.

1. Now and again a musician called Norman (Spud) West used to drive his sky blue coloured Ford Popular or Prefect car into the playground at going home time and take the first five lads who jumped into his car to their homes. Norman was at first sight and first hearing somewhat strange to us lads but we grew to really like him. He had bleached blond long hair and he was zany to put it mildly. After picking up the lads he would drive round the playground about five or six times then off we'd go. I believe he lived in the Hollinsend area, perhaps Grassthorpe Road or maybe Seagrave. + rest peacefully Sir.

Hi Appolo,
I was at Hurlfield same time as you, 61 to 66.
No one liked Bill machin, evil sod.
Some of rest were OK though.
Remember Len Egerton, Headteacher? Great guy.
Who was in your class?
Sam Rhodes, Graham Cockings, Steve Coates, Andrew Tucker?
Names ring any bells?
How about teachers? Stuart Greenhough, Peter Jennings, Taffy Morgan, Jack Crawshw, Brian standing?

Hi Phillip
guess you can include me in your group of classmates, for the first three years at least. I guess I could tell a few stories but will resist. Saw the old school on An Ipad satellite pic today. it looked like a construction site. When in Sheffield last year I went with Barry Travis to catch up with Tony Hopkins at his local, but he was not there that night. I did catch up with Roger Scholey and Alan Biggin on that trip though.

I left in either 76 or 77. It's a long time ago and hard to remember. My form teacher was Mrs Upton, the RE teacher. I used to do fencing with Mr Hartley. I had friends called Jenifer and Anne but my memory of school is not good, I think I just blocked it out. Funny really cos I'm a teacher now myself but in primary school.

I was there until '68, and yes Bill Machin was a swine. A PE teacher who HATED football. It was always cricket, Winter in the gym and Summer in the nets outside (we never actually played a game of it ).
He once caned me for nowt, and it didn't half hurt as we weren't allowed to wear underpants under our shorts (the pervert).
We I left, I thought I would never see him ever again. I joined BT as an apprentice and went to Granville College on a block release course.
Guess who took us for games - yes that **** man!!!!!
He used to take us cross country running around Dore, but only actually joined in on the last bit. I told the lads on the course what he'd done to me and they agreed to set him up.
Part of the cross-country course went alongside a lake and he joined the group just before the turn. Usually people would converge so they could get round the corner, but this time they didn't. Bill ended up on the outside and ran out of room, straight into the lake :hihi:
He staggered out of there with that stupid tracksuit now completely waterlogged (don't they hold some water), screaming obscenities, threatening to get us all expelled from college.
On our return to college, we were all taken to the Principle's office, but when it emerged that no-one had actually pushed him etc, and in fact it was his own fault that he ended up in the lake, it was him that ended up leaving the college after other teachers had heard his foul-mouth rants at everyone.
So all ends well, and he finally got his cum-uppence, and I would like to personally thank the lads from British Steel who were on that block release course in '68 for sorting that ***** out for me.
Cheers Lads - wherever you are these days.

Hi i left in 2004 when still myrtle springs now park springs academy and still in a bad state.....just looking at a few of the old posts not read the later ones but mr. moxon died a few years back and never knew him to be the head and was still an art teacher when i left....mr shutt left around 2002 i think mr guest was still there and i believe still there now....head when i was there was mr wydenbach brought the school out of special measures and was great until certain things happened in school and he left "by his own accord" shame as now its ran by two female teachers who couldnt control one class never mind the school....and if people thought mr. moxon wasnt head material then you wouldnt beleive these two!!

sisters are still there now having constant problems with teachers using force to control pupils and swearing at pupils then somehow still keeping a job!!

I went to Hurlfield from about 1974 to 1980. I remember the boiling tar incident. I was standing with a friend watching two guys tarring the cookery/craft room roof. One workman was on the roof and there was a bucket of boiling hot tar on the roof. The bucket was over a flame keeping the tar boiling. The other workman was climbing up the ladder to the roof when the bucket of tar spilled over on to him. He slid down the ladder sreaming is head off and running round, pulling his gloves off. After this my memory goes because I don`t recall who called an ambulance or what I did after. Sometime later in assembly, Mrs Parkin who was the head mistress told us all that the workman was alive but his hands were deformed. I didn`t hear anything after that. Health and Safety definately didn`t come in to it in this instance, poor man.

When in Sheffield last year I went with Barry Travis to catch up with Tony Hopkins at his local, but he was not there that night. I did catch up with Roger Scholey and Alan Biggin on that trip though.

John Gdid you know pauline butler from the bager estate.

Hi Tigerman, no I don`t know Pauline Butler, I may do if I saw her. I remember Ronald Tucker, Raymond Hinds, Diane Seymour, Juliet Marsden, Lynn Wragg to name a few. Mr. Pringle was our form teacher, can`t believe where the years have gone. Hated it at the time but would turn back the years if I could. Any one remember Mr. Guest? He was my RE teacher, used to tell us dirty stories rather than teach us anything. Didn`t realise it at the time but they were definately the good days!!

Hi i left in 2004 when still myrtle springs now park springs academy and still in a bad state.....just looking at a few of the old posts not read the later ones but mr. moxon died a few years back and never knew him to be the head and was still an art teacher when i left....mr shutt left around 2002 i think mr guest was still there and i believe still there now....head when i was there was mr wydenbach brought the school out of special measures and was great until certain things happened in school and he left "by his own accord" shame as now its ran by two female teachers who couldnt control one class never mind the school....and if people thought mr. moxon wasnt head material then you wouldnt beleive these two!!

sisters are still there now having constant problems with teachers using force to control pupils and swearing at pupils then somehow still keeping a job!!

anywho my grandad and his brother was there when it was hurlfield dont know the years but they were neil and les cambell.....if anyone has any stories of them im sure theres some. some time around 50's - 60's

to webbo21 - he still catches the train in from barnsley i believe

Hi rob bob10, wish I could see what Ian Guest looks like now. Saw him on a quiz show on
telly a few years back and he reminded me of Phil Collins!! What school are you talking about? When I drive past where school was on Eastbank Rd, there`s a new build there, looks like a sport centre.

John G

Visited about 4 years ago and place looked so derelict. Was a Saturday morning and they were having a jumble sale and so was open. Chatted to, think it was the headmaster and he reckoned that it was probably due to be demolished within 5 years.
I recall your name John but with advancing years, well, memories for faces are fading fast !!
Were you on the tall side with blond hair?
Tony Hopkins, used to live down Granville Road, father was a plumber.
Also remember Roger Scholey.
