Hi, We stick with Tofields these days. Used a few others in the past but cost / service from tofields comes out top IMHO

I'm using Tofields at the moment, just received a letter saying they've merged with Wake Smith. The solicitor that is dealing with my house is leaving at the end of the month. Not sure whether it's just my branch or the whole company that's merging but Wake Smith apparently have no experience with house buying/selling according to their receptionist. Just something for you to note.

Used Wake Smith for the transfer of my mortgage from one provider to another as well as changing it into a joint mortgage.

Put simply AVOID like the plague. They never call you back, I had to chase them up on more than one occasion and so did the mortgage company to get it done on time and then when I found that they had overcharged me they would not speak to me until I sat in their office and refused to move until it was sorted.

Sorry I know it is a bit of a rant but there are others who are miles better out there.

We had no problem when we asked for a quote. But now they've got our business, we keep ringing and can't get through.

We've had no updates and are in the dark about what's happening.

I would not recommend them.

Tofields did a re mortgage and a house purchase for us. I don't have the exact numbers but they were competitive and above that, great service. Not used wake smith though

Currently using Irwin Mitchell - absolutely no complaints - charges around £600 per sale and purchase

Malcolm C Foy and Co - they have offices in Rotherham & Donny.
Ive had quite a few dealings with Lynn in the Rotherham office, they are very professional, really look out for you and very competitvely priced (originally recommended from a financial advisor!).

Surely they can't all be as bad as the ones I've used before or read about on here....can they :suspect:

Anyone have a good experience and/or recommendation for a conveyancer or solicitor?

TIA

hiya i have just used Firth Lindsay (Mr firth) and I must say he was most unhelpful and difficult! I used them as overall they were £200 cheaper as their searches were cheaper and they didnt charge for additional things.

I have previously used Mr Todd at norrie, waite and slater who was very efficient and would now use again. You do get what you pay for! good luck

I have moved twice and used Norrie Waite and Slater Solicitors, Sheffield. Each time Mrs Meldrum has dealt with the conveyancing I would recommend her to anyone!! ;-)

Avoid Joslin Rhodes at all costs. 10 months after moving into our house we still havnt got all of the paper work sorted. They were very cheap but very very very bad!

Bradford & Son on Moorgate Road in Rotherham - tel. 01709 377412. A friend recommended them so I used them when buying my first house recently and they were absolutely brilliant. The purchase turned into a bit of a disaster (awkward vendors changing their minds about everything, not getting back to us, refusing to deal with me or my solicitors directly but not contacting their own solicitors either...nightmare!) and all the staff at Bradford & Son were fantastic - at the height of the madness I was having twice-daily conversations with my solicitor's secretary, and they were always helpful & quick to respond. Once a price was finally agreed, they managed to rush through the final paperwork & money transfer within a week so that I could pick up the keys on the day I had to be out of my old house, and all the official paperwork was sent to me within 6 weeks of moving in. I can't recommend them enough - helpful, friendly and very efficient AND one of the cheapest conveyancing quotes I had!

I have just moved and can definitely recommend Coates Solicitors in Mosborough. They were brilliant - always returned my calls, kept me up to date with progress and a great price.

Bradford & Son from Rotherham are absolutely useless!!
We hired them to buy a house in early August. Its November now and we don’t even received contracts to sign (not to mention moving in date). :(
We are first time buyers and there is no chain involved on either of sites. During all this time they contacted us twice:
1. to let us know they accept the job
2. to send us search results.

Any time I phoned them they were blaming someone else.
After more then 2 months I decided to find out myself whether there were any difficulties our our solicitor just being lazy.
I phoned all parties: mortgage vendor, progress team, sellers. All of them were waiting for my solicitor (of Bradford & Son) to do his work.
I really doubt they will be able to finalize transaction this year. Took them 5 days to return call from estate agency.
Avoid at all cost!!!
Bradford & Son is ONE BIG DISAPOINTMENT!!!

I'm surprised by that. I and four of my friends have all used Bradford & Son this year and have all found them to be absolutely brilliant. I don't know your exact situation, but I've known several people who've thought their solicitors were holding things up and have been told by the seller's side that they're waiting for the buyer's solicitor, and then it's turned out to be solicitors on the seller's side deliberately slowing up the process because the seller doesn't want the sale to go through really quickly for whatever reason. Not saying that's what's happening with yours, and I'm sorry you're having to wait around, but you absolutely can't rely on a seller's solicitor to tell you the truth. My seller's solicitor told us a right load of rubbish throughout the whole selling process (which I only found out afterwards), I wanted it to go through quickly and there was no chain, but the solicitors kept saying they were waiting for Bradford & Son to send them some documents, when in fact they'd already had the documents and confirmed receipt! (Bradford & Son showed me the faxes saying the documents had been received, dated several weeks earlier). I hope it all works out for you though, it's horribly frustrating having to wait around but hang in there, it's worth it!
