Ok... this is a very geeky and rather sad question in a sence, but...
Does anyone know how far in reality we are to producing an engine based on those in StarTrek, capable of warp speed, wether its just theories or an actual plan?

We are not likely to see engines in military aircraft more than 2-3 times of what is current, in the next 50 years, and commercial aircraft will be restricted to what we have today to cut down on pollution.
You can read true advances in engine technology in the New Scientist magazine. Don't rely on the fantasy which you will find on most websites about the subject.

The Inland Revenue have had one for years but it only works one way.
If you overpay them & require a rebate, forget it.
1p under and whooosh! WTF was that?
the physics is loosely based on real science, but as for actually doing it, we haven't got the faintest idea.
Have a google on the orion project for some more likely near future space propulsion ideas.
