I thought Bradford town hall looks a lot like ours, and while checking I found this site : http://www.webbaviation.co.uk/sheffield/sheffield.htm which is quite interesting. JoeP 20-01-2005, 12:23 Diabolical. Seems to me that a few too many architects have been let loose with their craft knives and lego bricks. Keep communities of a size that mean something to the people who have to live in them. Joe Abdul 20-01-2005, 12:36 A vision of a northern England in which people could live in Hull, commute to Liverpool, shop in Leeds and go out in Manchester in one day has gone on show. It takes two or three hours to travel from East to West across England. If you enjoy wasting your life away in traffic jams, it's a great idea! If you don't, you'll probably wonder where all this madness will stop. nick2 20-01-2005, 12:47 Originally posted by Abdul [i]AIf you enjoy wasting your life away in traffic jams, it's a great idea! I think they propose something more efficient than cars. dinp 20-01-2005, 12:54 What a load of balls! Just who is going to fill all the houses, when the south east is still growing rapidly? As for Will Alsop, his designs are pants - nobody wants to live in a 'Noddy's Toyland' town now do they?? The roads are congested enough as it is, can we expect to see a scaling down of the motorway to incorporate cycle lanes, chicanes, road humps, narrower lanes, residents parking (one space per 80 houses, wider paths and pedestrian crossings? Honestly, what is the guy thinking....  evildrneil 20-01-2005, 13:02 As posted to the have your say bit: Other cities in the area are already feeling the squeeze as devolpment money is routed to Leeds and Manchester - a huge develpment of this type would only ghettoise the likes of Sheffield. Lea1979 20-01-2005, 13:02 i have a question - why would anyone want to commute to Liverpool, shop in Manchester etc etc in one day ??? dinp 20-01-2005, 13:10 Originally posted by Lee1979 i have a question - why would anyone want to commute to Liverpool, shop in Manchester etc etc in one day ??? With the way this country's road and rail is going, soon speed limits on both will be about 12mph and plagued with cameras, black boxes and even a conscience built into the dashboard (car) or fold down table (train) - SO IT WONT BE POSSIBLE!! |
