I was just wondering if you could only watch one Sheffield Team in action, which would it be and why?

For me it would have to be the Steelers, Ice Hockey to me is the ultimate sport, Fast, Tough and Skillful.

Cheers

I voted the Steelers. Despite being a major footy fan I'm kind of neutral when it comes to Wednesday and United. Went to see the Steelers once last season and enjoyed it. I'm hoping to go again...

WTF is soccer? It's football love .. FOOTBALL. Just because you like an American Sport no need to adopt vulgar Americanisms.

soccer is an english word.

it is short for 'association football' and is not an americanism at all.

I think you'll find that 'soccer' is a term that is NEVER used by British football fans. The only countries where it is in widespread usage is those where football is not a major national sport. I.E The US, Canada, and Australia/NZ.

I am aware that soccer is a derivative of association football but as a descriptive sporting term is almost exclusively associated with the US and the other countries noted above.

I think you'll find 'Soccer' is an adaptation of a Latin Word meaning 'Game of Foot'.

But still it's football either way. As is in you use your Foot and a Ball. Simple Logic!

Thanks for the 'modern' definition Kerry. However the name 'originated' from a latin word meaning 'game of foot'. I'm just trying to find the bugger!

LOL

I just looked at one of the online dictionarys.

For Ice hockey I found this:

Function: noun
Etymology: by shortening & alteration from Gods own game
Date: 2000BC
: a game played on ice between two teams of animals intent on killing each other between attempts to score goals on the target, often know as the goalie or netminder. The players or animals propel a piece of vulcanised rubber at speeds of upto 100 miles per hour at the target or mad fool as some call the goalie.

Rosie

I just put dare I say it the "major teams"

There will be loads of teams I have missed but I was limited by both space and knowledge.:D Thats sort of why I put the sport down too, so maybe you could vote for the Sharks as they play basketball?

Thats why I wanted people to comment too.

Cheers

Kerry;)

You can`t be serious the major teams well here is a bit of information Sharks have less silver wear than Hatters. Hatters won 2 out of 3 trophys last season. What did the Sharks win ?.

Hatters have been going longer and why should I vote for a mans team when the womens one is so much more interesting, never mind the women being more successful.

The only reason they don`t have as much tv air time is the Hatters are female and in a men dominated sports world thats the only reason. If it was on talent and success Sharks would be way down.

If the vote was on most successful Hatters would be above Wednesday, United to name but a few.

So you should include them on merrit alone.

They wouldn't be above the Steelers though and they get little TV time either.

This was never about mens or womens sports.

I could have mentioned the Sheffield Shadows too!

I am sure there are many good teams I haven't mentioned both male and female.

Also different sports too, bowls, bowling, cricket, tiddly winks etc etc.

Why not start your own poll?

Cheers

I voted steelers for the simple fact that i love them. the sport is fast, the atmosphere fantastic, the fans brilliant :D and as a big plus we win quite a bit (last season 2/3 trophies). other than that i'm a wednesday fan.

Not many voted, but saying that over 60% for the Steelers suprises me.

No one seems to like Basketball and Rugby though or is it that not many sports fans come here?

Oooooh, what a tough choice, lol, nah it would be Steelers all the way for me, not such a great sports fan, football tends to bore me a little, no offence like, but the atmosphere alone in the Steelers is amazing and weve stuck with them since they started!

Way back in the 70s when I was in school the only people that called it Soccer were the posh folk in the private schools like Birkdale. We used to laugh at people that called it soccer. "Oh lah di dah." I don't think the Americans even played soccer back then.

Blades for me.

Despite them causing me no end of heartache and frustration i can't help loving them and I miss it when I'm not there.

I go in the hope that I'll see some passion, skill and goals. In the hope that someday we'll be the best and outplay all challengers.

Hang on a minute.......
