Radio is by far the better option. In fact the only decent telly has come off the radio, partrige, little britain etc etc

All soaps are pointless distractions to meaningless lives.

Advertisments, just lie and corrupt people until they can't judge correctly.

The influx of gardening, decorating, cooking and antique programming is societies way of feebly readdressing the skills people have lost thanks to evil consumerism (led mainly by TV adds) The number of times my mum has said, 'your grandma used to cook that!'
'What? Really? Then why the **** did you feed us with processed ****e?

Because the telly convinced her it would be easier if she did.

Throw away your telly - and celebrities that have done nothing but appear on the telly-

The only draw back is that you can't sleep and you post your opinions to an addicted mass who won't listen anyway.

OK watch ****ing Hollyoaks then. A grange Hill for the people who don't know what a school is! Phil Redmond is the new Pinter.

Hey there mini,

I'm not much of a TV watcher myself, but I'd be the first one to admit ( oh, the shame!) that some American TV is just awful.

There are some worthwhile shows, but the stuff the networks (especially Fox) puts out is garbage.

They do show British programs in America. Monty Python, Fawlty Towers, The Young Ones, and my all time favorite, Absolutely Fabulous.

My husband got me one of these for my birthday:

And it is just the coolest thing! I love it! Don't know if something like it is available in the UK. (probably it is) You can tailor it to your tastes, and a couple of programs I used to watch on TV, I listen to in the car, or when I'm working around the house.

It's about $10/month, and I can't imagine how I ever lived without it. And the very best part? NO commercials!!

I agree that much of whats shown on telly is pure rubbish..but I really don't agree with a lot of what you're saying.

I don't think the TV tells us to by processed food...for a start theres loads of health programs on ( You Are What You Eat..etc) where they constantly say don't eat processed food..and then there's all the cookery shows.

Anyway, back the point. There are a few really good fictional shows - Six Feet Under, Teachers, etc.

There's lots of good comedy and great documentaries.

I just don't think you can right off the whole output of TV. If you don't like it just don't watch it, but don't preach to others about what they should do!

I think that was the point i made - it sold us rubbish unabbated and now tells us not to put anything like it advertises in our mouths

Kettle calling the pot black there vicar. If you don't like opinion you shouldn't be on here. you shouldn't have to have an opinion or thoughts - yeah telly does that to you as well!! Carry on!

Gotta disagree. TV at the moment is fantastic. American Tv, especially HBO shows that are brilliantly written, intelligent and brilliantly acted- shows like The Sopranos, The Wire (on wednesday night at 10pm on FX, highly reccomended), Six Feet Under. Who can dis the excellent ER?!

Then you've got the comedy thats been around recently- Little Britain, Max and Paddy, Have I Got News For You, Shameless, Dead Man Weds. Theres the new Bob Mortimer quiz show with his comedian mates that starts this Friday night on BBC1.

Then you've got the recent documentaries like Auschwitz, Nightmares and Real Crime on ITV. Not to mention Question Time and Newsnight.

Some radio is good like the comedy on BBC4. But TV is great at the minute if I might say so!

Oh no! I agree that HBO series etc. are wonderful. I'm absolutely hooked on the Sopranos, Six Feet Under, etc. Here in the US, network TV is free. HBO etc. is cable or Dish Network, and you must be a subscriber to view it.

There are some good programs on The Discovery Channel, The Learning Channel, etc.

In fact, I can't wait for this show: About Pompeii

http://dsc.discovery.com/

I meant the truly awful programs, like "Fear Factor" where they dare contestants to eat all kinds of weird, gross, yukky stuff. Or someone must be immersed in a bathtub full of worms, etc. Or the ones where some guy has his choice of 15 girls, but he can only choose one. And the girls are trying to outdo each other, each behaving more crudely than the last to win this guy over.

Someone must be watching this drek, else it wouldn't be on. Oh well, I just turn the channel!

Oh yeah I agree totally. Reality Tv is utter s***. I saw a documentary about it once and it said that it was us British who started it all off with Big Brother and sold the rights all over the world. We started I'm A Celebrity and all the others and sold the rights of those around the world as well. So on behalf of the nation I apologise profusely!

Can't fault American TV though at the moment, especially the HBO shows and ER and Rescue Me which has just started on Sky One. They beat our's hands down at the minute. Sea of Souls was good at the weekend though!

I only have a TV because the family watch it, to much in my view and agree that radio is far the better option.
I love radio, always got it on and I probably would not have one if I lived alone.

I'm in a funny mood today, and the hypocracy of the television annoys me so much. One minute i'm being told that people are starving in Africa and i have to give my money to help, and the next Ministry Of Mayhem (Sat am, ITV) shows "the worlds biggest ever food fight". Its insane. Not to mention flinging a cake at a wall (a segment called "Cakey Skate"), they now waste even more food. Its ugly.

Chris.
