I remember that crash very well. It happened while I was still in class at Nether Edge Grammar. I went over to the park along with several other kids, but the army had sealed it off. All I could see of the aircraft was the tail. The rest had totally disintegrated. The story went around that the pilots had attempted to crah land on the park but seeing kids playing football, had attempted to bank away to port and had hit the trees. Another story was that the rear gunner was still alive and had told some kids trying to get him out to get the heck away, just before it blew up in flames . These stories were never confirmed.
