The reviews haven't been too good. Is it worth buying?

I bought it yesterday and have to say I'm pretty impressed with the first half (all I've listened to so far) - I really didn't like the last album. Going to see them in two weeks

Yes yes yes Daisy lane is excellent. Only listened once so far to my copy... busy two days but heard all the tracks on you tube a while back. Kelly is still god.

Soooo looking forward to seeing them for the tenth time!!!!!!!:love:

Wish I had tickets to see them; I find Kelly unusually dreamy.

Not to make you jealous or anything but the venue I'm off to only has a capacity of around 900, I can practically smell the sweat already

Did you win the XFM tickets for Manchester? Doh! As I'm a pedant i picked them up on their question which was what did the chart hit 'Local boy in the photograph' get to? I said do you mean by chart hit when it was rereleased as it didn't chart on its first release.
I got an email saying thank you for being a smart arse. In so many words lol - therefore my name went to the bottom of the pile i bet.

Oh well, if you've noone to go with and all that.... :D

I'll be in the 'mosh - lol we are talking arena' anyway.

No this is a 'warm up' gig in Lincoln :D (I should be so lucky to win anything, it's costing me a fortune!) To be honest we aren't holding our hopes out on them actually turning up....

Yeeeaaahhhhhh got tickets to see them. But, it is at the Arena. What is the Arena like, never been before.

its like an arena! what do you mean whats it like?

pippadoll
21-10-2007, 10:50
Not been to an arena to see a band before, usually only go to small venues. Sorry for being dumb and my question lacking precision ukstudent. I think the City Hall was the largest venue, or maybe Whitley Bay Ice Rink...
Is it all seating, can you go down to the front to stand, is it open air, is there a bar serving alcohol...

How much did you pay for them? Im trying to get some off ebay too, gutted I didnt hear about the gig sooner!

Paid face value, from a work colleague. I went to the Hallam FM arena site today to look at the layout, it seems that they still have tickets at face value. £28.50. Not sure how the booking works and if there really are tickets available.

On another ticketing site it said that it was not sold out. I hope you manage to get some.

BTW do you know what it will be like using supertram to get to town afterwards.

I paid £44, sacrificed all my morals and bought tickets off ebay! They were originally £27.50 face value though with a 4.95 booking fee per ticket plus postage so not a horrendous difference and I think it's an experience I won't get the chance at again. They sold out in 1.5 hours, and the university didn't do a flippin' press release until 2 days after they went on sale, useful as ever  Go for it Weenireeni it really is a small venue and should be unmissable!!

I'm guessing you didn't go Weenireeni? I had to come and make you jealous, it was a really rather amazing gig :D I was stood right at the front and as it's such a small venue the stage is only a couple of feet high. Any further back and I don't think anyone could have seen Kelly he's teeny!! They did a lot of classics as well as some tracks off the new album. They were absolutely loving it and grinned through the entire gig which made it all the more special, would love to see them again but it just wouldn't be the same in a huge arena.

Oh my god. I am jealous! Can't wait for Friday, they best be up for it this time. Did they play same size feet or t shirt suntan Twiglet? Can you remember the set list?

No they didn't set list was as follows (taken from the nice people with very good memories on the Stereophonics Forum):

Bank Holiday Monday
Bartender and the Thief
1000 Trees
My Friends
Tramps Vest
I could lose ya
I wouldn't believe everything you hear on your Radio
Pass the buck
Just Looking
Superman
Vegas
maybe tomorrow (solo)
Devil
Mr Writer
Pick a part
Daisy lane
Traffic
Helga
Local boy

Encore:

It means nothing
Dakota

I'm assuming both 'warm up gigs' were to play around with the set lists and gauge audience response, so here is the set list from Dundee:

1 Soldiers
2 Pass The Buck
3 Superman
4 Bank Holiday...
5 Doorman
6 Just Looking
7 A Thousand Trees
8 Pick A Part...
9 Traffic
10 Vegas...
11 Devil
12 More Life...
13 I wouldn't Believe...
14 Lady Luck
15 Daisy Lane
16 Local Boy...
-----------------
17 Combo of Have a nice day, Hurry up and wait, Step on my old size nines
18 Maybe Tomorrow
19 It Means Nothing
20 My Friends
21 Dakota

I'm assuming you'll get a combo of the best bits of both. Here's a link to a video of Kelly being cheeky and asking the barmaids to 'take their tops off for the boys'!. Some kind person videoed most songs and they're on Youtube. This is ok to post up here and doesn't seem to be breach of copyright, cameras and video were allowed, and in fact Stereophonics have set up their own 'moblog' site for those who went to the gigs to put up their pics and videos so they seem happy for it to be published.

The only downer was lots and lots of people chucking beer. I mean - why??? :(

The combo sounds good. Must admit the order of the lincoln set appeals more. .. BHM and Bartender both would get the crowd going... soldiers and pass the buck too new for that.
Maybe tomorrow is excellent as a solo, he did it on the acoustic tour so I hope that comes off too. Hope they play Madame Helga as well.

They never play my favourites since Donnington - grr!!!

I was very surprised they didn't do Bartender at Dundee, and also a bit sad they didn't do Soldiers at Lincoln as I like it but I'm not at all jealous - the Dundee warm up venue looked at least twice as big as Lincoln and they didn't seem to have quite the same connection with the crowd, which goes the same for most of the other bigger venues on the live Youtube footage. Whether that's just because of the 'old lady dancing madly at the front' (which is what was apparently making them pee themselves laughing) or not I don't know!

Thanks twiglet; it looked like a very good and long set.

Very excited about Friday, but can I wait until the end for Dakota

Glad to here Kelly is on good form; hope he swears though, I love it when he swears. Am I odd...

Oooh last night.
Right at the front, just leaning on some rather gorgeous man's back. (married though - I checked lol) :hihi:

Brilliant apart from some (insert your own word here) trying to put his arm in my face the entire time. Thank you to Sheffnewb for protecting me from the guy's smelly charmpits as much as he could!

Excellent - kelly did do an acoustic combo - the melody was Have a nice day, Hurry up and wait and Traffic which felt very weird not to hear the whole of that song. Maybe tomorrow was acoustic.
Encore was It means nothing and Dakota - sounds like all the tour has been different as they did Royal Flush/Deadhead - was definitely a rock set which was a good compliment to Kelly's acoustic tour at the beginning of the year. Was good to hear Wouldn't believe your radio live as well for first time in a while.

Not their best gig i've ever been to but it was great - they were definitely more up for it than last year and Rich was smiling away. Also looks like Mister Spider Simpson is going to be a permanent fixture in the band.

Quite a good gig, definitely rock orientated. I was sitting which was a nightmare. I see what people mean about Arena gigs; certainly wouldn't do it without standing in the future.

They sounded truly amazing at times - although didnt Kelly look rough without his sunnies; he said it was flu...okay, yes.

Glad I went as they really do sound truly great live, it really does them justice.

I think I am in love with Kelly, although he didn't swear for me.

Forgot to say did everyone enjoy The Enemy as well? I am also a little bit in love:love: with Tom as well, he's got a fantastic cocky attitude and if he can write like this now at 21, he'll again be a great songwriter. Even if he did rip off That's entertainment.:hihi:
I enjoyed their set equally and they did the majority of the album. Not quite as good an atmosphere as at Ledders but half the crowd had probably not heard of them. I was bopping away anyway. :D

I don't think people realise how bloomin brilliant they are live. (apart from the time they were hungover a couple of years back)
I too can't wait for Dec. Paid extra booking fee pennies to get my presale tickets. and i think i know who the support are too. ;)
Having read a lot of reviews from V, a lot of people agreed they were best act of the weekend. Dakota looked brilliant on tv, wish i'd gone this year. :(

I wish i'd gone too. They did look best act there. They showed newer bands how its done. They looked as good at T in the Park.

Can't wait to see them. I'm goin to four gigs on the tour. Wish I could do more but my bank balance won't allow it. Who do you reckon support are?

Have you heard the new song you're my star. It sound brilliant.
