Hello, I have been working the last 2 years on an IT helpdesk, but im fed up with it now & would like a new challenge. I think something more physical would suite me.

Seriously though - What about Engineering? Why? Because he can't spell or string a sentence together?

Engineers need to be a bit more accurate than that. Their mistakes and sloppiness kill people.

Far be it from me to tell someone they can't go down a particular career path because of supposedly bad grammar.

There are various aspects to engineering like 'Refrigeration Engineer' for instance.

Just because he wants something a little more physical I don't think that should limit him to 'Hod Carrying' or 'Gardening'.

Ditto mate, I've ran a little support desk for the last 18 months, after tomorrow my days may be numbered as I may have a new job lined up :D

Now to address the other issue within this thread -

I am sorry if anybody found my rather terse answer offensive, but as an engineer myself, I am repeatedly offended by the mis-use of the word. It is nearly always used where 'technician' would be more appropriate, and any eejit with a spanner also calls himself 'engineer'.

I was decidedly miffed that 'engineer' was suggested so flippantly, in a fashion which suggests anybody can just walk in off the street and just be an engineer.

Engineers are badly paid compared to the other 'professions', and their work is largely undervalued, especially in today's climate of popstardom.

I sincerely hope Scotty finds himself a more fullfilling career, but if he chooses engineering, it will be very rewarding hard work.
