Any dye should do it but it will eventually turn a bit yellow, you have to start useing a blue shampoo when it does that, or a shampoo called DRAB, cuts the yellow out.

Two litres of Domestos.

You'll need a strong pair of gloves unless you want to dye your skin white too.

You should have another person close by (in case the fumes incapacitate you).

No, you don't drink it.

I thought the latest blonde style was to have bleached hair with grey roots

Or is that just the older folk ?

No way.. DIY always :) If more people decided to do it themselves, maybe hairdressers wouldnt charge you £70 just to sit down.. ouch!

If you're really sure you want it done, then make sure you get the right kit!

If you're natrually dark haired, or have any colour in your hair currently, don't buy any 'home bleach' kit from Boots / Superdrug etc. Go to somewhere like Sally's which is a hairdressing wholesaler. You don't have to pay for membership, but you do have to be in the trade. I used to tell them I was a trainee hairdresser when I used to go.

One bit of advice; my hair is natrually black, and my complexion, although caucasian, is quite dark too. I dyed my hair white blonde a few years ago, and 'cos my hair was short, and I couldn't stand the roots showing, I kept dying it every week or so. After about six weeks my hair fell out :o as I was washing the bleach out, and I was left with a very dirty yellow coloured crew cut. I looked like Yazz

is there a sally's in sheffield? or any similar wholesalers? thanks for the advice. my hair is naturally medium blonde ish, do you think any average box-dye from boots etc such as L'Oreal something or other may do the trick?

Buy some Sun In.. that way you can control the amount of blonde you want with a hair drier! Although a hairdressers would be your best bet...but I guess if your a boy it can be cut really short if it goes worng tee you are a boy arn't you?

Bleach your hair with Jerome russel bleach then rince through with a silver or grey-blue setting lotion...it gives it a pearly blue tint..that looks white. I used to do it with mine and it looked ace.!

Or you could go for the Eminem look and clipper it off bleaching the end bits...could look good!

I don't know, Hon.

This sounds like a job for a professional. I hate parting with money as much as the next person, but to get the white blonde color you want, they have to put some mighty powerful chemicals on your hair. Not to mention, stripping the color that's there, out.

I had a friend who dyed her hair herself with a box color. Her natural color was light brown and she went jet black, and ended up looking like Cleopatra.

Be careful!

I wouldnt go to the hairdressers if i were you theyre so scared of you sueing them theyll generally only dye it if youre having it close to the colour you already are and after loads of strand tests.
Do it yourself with the jerome russell stuff - as far as i know its the strongest bleaching stuff out there (that ive tried anyway) and dont do it if your hairs already prone to split ends/dryness cos it makes mine really dry and mines usually greasy if anything.

Hi,

There are a few Sally shops in Sheffield; one is on the retail park next to Comet on Queens Road, and there is one on Roman Ridge Road near Meadowhall.

If your hair is quite light anyway, a colour from a chemist may do the trick; they normally show you the results on the top of the box.

I'd be tempted to get the proper full-strength stuff from Sally if you want it really white. I got mine that colour, and my hair is natrually dark!

Bear in mind I'm not a hairdresser, so don't come complaining if you end up like Yul Brynner! :o

If you are naturally very dark of hair, you need to be extremely careful, because bleaching out black- or very dark brown hair, will usually send the hair a sort of copper-orange.
It won't bleach to the platinum blonde I assume you are hoping for.

A friend's ex-boyf' was black , and he had (back in the eighties) the wet-look perm, that was very "in" at the time. He had a "V" shape, bleached into the front of his hair, and it looked really nice. It was the copper-y colour I described above.

Have you thought about calling into a wig-shop, and trying a wig on, in the colour and style that you fancy, to get a general impression of the look, and whether it would suit you?

As others have mentioned, be aware that processing, like colouring and perming, can damage your hair. Hair does not always take kindly to being coloured or permed.

Best of luck

PT

yeah your right, and i find they always think you want the latest trendy do, and that you can't possibly want it bleach blonde. no really i do!
i went to toni and guy once...never again...and i wanted a REALLY short french cropped style and they refused to cut all my hair off, thinking i couldn't possibly mean it all!

thanks for the advice

Ren if you carn't afford salon prices, i went blonde with a product called Born Blonde you can find it at super drug ,this is the cheapest place i got it,and it did not go yellow if you keep it on long enough.useing a bit of heat on it will be ok, i.e. hairdryer. But always test the product on yourself first do what is called a patch test first, mix a little bit of the colour first and put it on your skin at the back of the ear, leave for 24 hours if you get no reaction from it then it is safe to use.good luck

I'd definately recommend the nice n easy...look for the lowest number possible which I think is in the 80's. Mines number 98 and is a nice blonde colour but not white so you'd need to go lower.

if less people did it themselves i wouldnt spend most of my day sorting out pants home hair colours, it all depends on the undercoat of your hair what tones of blonde your hair can handle eg red neutralises green, blue neutralises copper etc
