Maybe he used his Spanish contacts to get Madrid to buy Heinze with the plan being to buy him in the January transfer window???

If he did, it has to go down as a master stroke!!!

I'm a Liverpool fan and I was horrified when I first heard we were trying to sign Heinze. He's a manc. There's a long running tradition that we don't sign United players and they don't sign our players. The last direct first team transfer between the two was about 40 years ago. Paul Ince was just about acceptable because he'd been to Inter Milan for a few years in between, but this is not.

I originally thought that Rafa had bid for him just to unsettle Ferguson, which would have been good tactics, but if he does actually want to sign Heinze then he's out of order. No mancs at LFC!

And here's me thinking most Liverpool fans were actually half-intelligent. Apparently not; they would turn down a good signing for no other reason than the name of the club he used to play for.

Don't judge us all because of one Liverpool fan you do not agree with!

All i can say is; If I woke up in the morning and looked at the back page of the paper and it read; "Ronaldo Signes For Liverpool"; I would jump for ^$*$&$&% joy!!!!!!!

Football rivalries are one of the very few constants in football. Players come and go, managers come and go, even chairmen come and go but rivalries are forever. Football would be a very dull game without them.

Even Rangers and Celtic buy players from each other, so if they can get over it anybody can.
On a different note it was nice to see Mcleish ask Sir Alex if Fetcher was available rather than just automatically pen him in. Take note Mr Maclaren.

It might be nice, but it's also silly. Whether or not he's available has nothing to do with what Sir Alex thinks.

So Maclaren telling Rapha that he's having Gerrard and he'll give him painkillers is the right road to go down?
Me thinks a few more common courtesy's and general considerations on both sides wouldn't hurt the Game in general. Would also stop players being out injured for such long periods.

Agreed! Also (and this could be coincidence) having played for England, against the wishes of Rafa, twice in a week whilst still not fully fit, Gerrard seems to have totally lost his early season form. He looks slugish and only about 75% fit. I have said it before, I hate International football! It's a real pain in the arras!

Also John Terry was supposed to be playing tonight even though his knee might need surgery at a later date. Yesterday his knee locked up in training.
Do the medical staff have their hands tied or are the players really that stuborn or is Maclaren that ignorant?

But didn't Rafa play him with painkillers only days before?

Yes he did!

Liverpool pay his wages! They look after him and treat him daily. Gerrard is contracted to Liverpool untill the end of his top flight career!

Rafa is more entitled to play Gerrard under pain killing influence than Maclaren is however, both parties should take into account the players well-being. If Gerrard isn't 100% fit, and if playing him puts his club football at risk, he should not play for his country!
A club can not prevent a player playing for his country without good reason (as the rules state). The rule should be changed slightly IMO! A club should be able to withdraw a player, if the player is not 100% fit!

I would welcome the signing of the Argie left back, and have been hoping that Rafa still had the bit in his mouth.

As for Ronaldo at Liverpool, I would rather see him dead.
