Next door to the old NICHE nightclub, round the corner from Decathlon and also from the old Gatecrasher(RIP).
The new gym will be in operation before the end of October.
Good time to start getting back into fitness wether its boxing or kickboxing you want to do.
hi chef, who will be running the boxing and the kickboxing classes at this new gym? and would you recomend them at trainers? thanks
What the set-up going to be like ? Open during the day or just evenings, will there be classes for kickboxing or boxing. Will it be membership or pay as you train ?
Cheers.

Hi Sab15
I will be teaching the kickboxing classes at this gym both for beginners and for fighters.
As far as recommending myself as a trainer, my fighters' track record and my own experience in this field speaks for itself.
There will also be enough decent fighters for you to spar with if you are looking to compete. We have decent fighters in every division from Flyweight (51kg) to superheavyweight (105kg) as well as other divisions in between.
The Flyweight holds a british title, and the superheavyweight has shared the ring with a world heavyweight champion twice.
The Boxing will be taught by Steve Stocks who boxed as an amateur for croft house ABC under the one and only Mick Taylor, and as a Pro for Brendan Ingle. He is a veteran of 99 bouts in total!!!
There will be opportunities to compete in boxing at the unlicensed boxing shows (they pay well by the way!).
For the kickboxing, there are ample opportunities to compete every month if needs be both at home and out of town. For university students, we arrange matches against other university clubs and have produced a number of university champions since the establishment of the university kickboxing league.
The most prolific university champion being "Sunny the snake Singh" who was undefeated at Lightwelterweight (63.5kg)

Hi protekt
There will be structured classes in both as well as the occasional open session here and there.
WE will have both options, membership AND pay as you train.
We will be open in the evenings but some of the instructors will be available for daytime private lessons.
Hi Farhad,
Is it going to be a typical (and much loved) spit and sawdust boxing gym, or are you moving into Fitness First/GKR territory :hihi:

Do you know if the boxing class run by Steve will be still on this evening (Thursday) from 6pm? I'm assuming yes as Steve didn't say they'd be moving Tuesday in the next couple of days but I thought it would be worth checking...
Yours

chefkicker 19-10-2007, 21:59 Hi kldarwent and midgeowl,
The classes on monday or thursday at 830pm are suitable for paticipants wishing to learn it for self defence fitness and fun.
We do charge for classes, the standard of tuition you get here is second to none in sheffield for kickboxing and as such does carry a price.
For further details ring 07775 914155 , or email info_sheffieldkickboxing@yahoo.co.uk
Or even turn up to one of the sessions.
At the moment we are at Wellington street but we will be at the new gym within a couple of weeks (possibly less!)
Regards
Farhad
mr_busdriver 20-10-2007, 09:54 Hi

Hi Cedric Soft,
This class is perfect for such as yourself, we have a lady who trains here who is late 30's and im pretty sure that the woman who brings her teenage daughter is in her 40's (so is her husband i would guess).
I have a group for private lessons who call themselves "the bunch of kittens" :hihi:.
People learn kickboxing to be able to look after themselves and to get fitter. If people were already as fit as linfor christie or as hard as Vinny Shoreman , they probably would not need self defence or kickboxing lessons.
Its our job to get you fit, teach you to defend yourself.
See you at one of the classes.
Monday/Thursday at 830pm are normal structured classes,
Sunday is a small mixed group at 1210 midday and Friday at 6pm is an open session which is also suitable for new beginners who want to learn a few basics then work on the bags at their own pace
Regards

Hey, i already posted another thread and then found this one, woops. Firstly ill say im a beginner, so;
Are the boxing classes open to everyone? Also, what do i need to get before i can come and start training. Gum shield, boxing gloves, pads?
Is your gym open all day, so for example i could just come in at anytime during the day and train, possibly with instruction from you and other coaches, rather than coming in at specific times when classes are on? If so, what are your opening/closing times.
Thankyou :D

We do our own range of quality boxing gloves, shinpads, groin guards,....etc.
Just come as you are, we have enough pairs of gloves in the gym
Rabbiteno1 31-10-2007, 11:54 Hi.
What does a typical beginners class involve and are there any differences between the classes on monday and thursday i.e. more emphasis on technique/conditioning, etc. ?
thanks.

Hi Rabbit
Monday and Thursday are taught along similar lines. The emphasis will alter from time to time depending on the lesson plan.
This is what you will expect from a typical beginners class.
1.Warm up= skipping, other light aerobic activity .
2.Stretching = mainly dyamic stretches but some light flexibility based stretching.
Beginners will be shown how to stand in a fighting stance and how to move forwards and backwards.
You will be taught how to jab(lead hand) and cross (rear hand) correctly as well as realistic striking distance (i.e. NOT 20 feet away like in the movies!)
You will then practise the first 2 basic punches either on one of the punchbags or a hand held pad held by your partner.
You will then move onto the use of kicks, knees and eventually elbows.
The first kicks you will be shown will not be the hollywood type flashy kicks ( yes we do them just not at this level!) but of a more practical nature.
You will be shown how to clinch (hold someone round the neck) and knee to the body or legs (or groin in a street situation :hihi:)
You will then be shown either the front push kick (to keep the attacker away) or the Roundhouse kick which is a kick in a circular motion to either the side of the ribs or the thighs.
In many martial arts the roundhouse kick is done with the instep but in kickboxing , muay thai and MMA (Cage fighting) the shin is used (more practical).
You will practise all the kicks against the pads (which is rather tiring you will find)
The lesson will finish off with some self defense or defensive maneuvres against kicks or punches.
After that is time for Abdominal exercises and a light stretch off.
On other occasions a Punchbag circuit will be included or elbow techniques or anything else.
