View Full Version : Free parking on Sundays? feargal 19-01-2005, 10:41 Can anyone tell me whether it's free parking on Sundays in the city centre - preferably near the station? Thanks Lucy_Smith 19-01-2005, 10:48 I think it depends on the car park. Most are free on Sundays. You can also park on single yellow lines on a Sunday. scottf 19-01-2005, 10:49 oh i don't know lucy- i have noticed quite a few now are paid parking 7 days a week apart from bank holidays, its only the on-road parking that still free on sundays. Andy C 19-01-2005, 10:51 Council pay & display car parks and street meter parking are free on Sundays. Private car parks are still chargeable. Nearest to the station would probably be Charles Street. Strix 19-01-2005, 11:01 You could try this link (http://www.sheffieldforum.co.uk/showthread.php?s=&postid=264673#post264673) Meaks 19-01-2005, 11:05 Many of the City Council car parks do now charge on Sundays as I found to my horror last week (£1.70 for 2 hours!) There is a very small car park near Charles Street that is still free but its normally full (Arundel Street I think). The link from Strix above lists charging hours as well. viking 19-01-2005, 11:19 Could you park in Meadowhall and catch the train from there? I do that every day feargal 19-01-2005, 11:27 Thanks for the info everyone... looks like you can't get owt for nowt these days! nick2 19-01-2005, 11:30 We didn't pay last Sunday, we parked just up from the BMW showroom at West Bar, perhaps we should have, but I'm fairly sure it's free on Sunday. BoroughGal 19-01-2005, 11:31 Have you not got legs? Can you not walk?? You wouldn't catch me driving into town..... Meaks 19-01-2005, 11:37 Originally posted by BoroughGal Have you not got legs? Can you not walk?? lol :D True though, the blue tram goes from Hillsborough straight to the station and is much easier than driving round the City Centre looking for a free space. BoroughGal 19-01-2005, 11:42 Ol' Petrol Leg's aint biting though...... foo_fighter 19-01-2005, 11:59 Details of car parks on: http://sccplugins.sheffield.gov.uk/car_parking/default.htm but no hours / days details, so try them on the phone: To Contact Parking Services simply phone on (0114) 2736158 between 9:00am to 5:00pm Mon. to Thurs. 9:00am to 4:45pm Fri. call in at our enquiry desk or write to: Street Force Parking Services 122 Charles Street, Sheffield, S1 2NE or e-mail: streetforce@sheffield.gov.uk alchresearch 19-01-2005, 12:01 Originally posted by feargal Thanks for the info everyone... looks like you can't get owt for nowt these days! It's ridiculous. Other cities offer free parking from 6pm on a weekday and free all Sunday. Perhaps this is why they prosper more than Sheffield? Anyway, it's not for me, it's for a friend - honest. I wouldn't drive into town as this would (a) stop me drinking; (b) cost me petrol money; and (c) invoke my everpresent road rage/Council rage/pedestrian rage. tbarlow 19-01-2005, 13:59 I've parked in Paradise Square on a Sunday before without paying...not sure I was supposed to though? Strix 19-01-2005, 17:18 When and why and for how long are you wanting to park near the station? You can park in the super secure, manned CCTV covered multi-storey for 40 mins for free, and after that I'd rather pay to have my car kept safe. Anywhere else is more risky. Dick 25-02-2012, 21:08 I know this is an old thread, but is on street parking in the city centre still free on sundays? rad 25-02-2012, 21:32 Yes - but not all of the car parks are. Tomorrow might be very busy with the derby on though. |
