South Yorkshire - Woodbourn Road closed both ways between the Parkway Avenue junction and the B6200 Staniforth Road junction in Sheffield, because of a serious fire.

Taken from Sheffield star website
TRAFFIC ALERT: Explosion fears cause evacuation

TRAM and bus services are today suffering major disruption after police closed off a Sheffield road because of fears that gas cylinders could explode.
Police were alerted to the potential problem by firefighters called to a garage on Woodbourn Road, between Attercliffe and Darnall, at around 11am.

They were dealing with a car fire at Don Motors when they were informed that cylinders of acetylene gas, used for welding, are stored there.

Because the cylinders can explode if they get too hot, firefighters will have to be on stand-by at the garage for the next 24 hours.

Businesses in the area have been evacuated and a 200 metre safety cordon has been set up around the garage, and buses and trams were ordered to stop running on safety grounds.

Supertram has announced that for the next 24 hours it will run services between Meadowhall and the Arena and from Middlewood and Herdings Park only as far as Cricket Inn Road, Wybourn.

Does anyone know how the trams are running once you can get to one?

I'm at Attercliffe and need to get the tram home from Arena to Middlewood.

I can prob ably get a lift to Cricket iNn Road to get a tram home, but if its gonna be a nightmare journey I'll scarper early (yay flexi time!).

dccjb

Theres no transport in that area for 24hrs, you will have to get to Cricket Inn Road, but they wont let you drive through Attercliffe

Yeah, that's fine, I can get to Cricket Inn Road, but just want to know if the trams are running as normal (ie time wise) from there, or is the whole system gummed up?

No transport means exactly that. No cars, no buses, no trams, and they won't let you walk through the area either.

dccjb

They should be running on time in all other areas

Yes, I understand that, but there are other roads that aren't part of the cordon. I will be able to use those to get to Cricket Inn Road..... Crikey, anyone would think i was asking the answer to Life the Universe and Everything!

Meaks

Its unlikely they will be running 'on time' as any kind of timetable will be out of the window, however I imagine by now that they will be running with the same sort of regularity.

Bus? X78 probably the quickest from the bus station and runs every 8/10 mins.

The latest updates (as @ 1450) are:

Passengers for Nunnery Park And Ride to get off at Cricket Inn and need to walk at trackside to the Nunnery Site.

Passengers for Nunnery P & R with pushchairs need to get off at Hyde Park and walk via Bernard Road to the Nunnery Site

Supertram are currently trying to arrange bus transport from Cricket Inn Road towards Meadowhall.

Tram tickets are now also valid on Northern Rail journeys only between Sheffield and Meadowhall
(DayRider and MegaRider - upto 1000 Saturday)

Blue route is running as normal.

Yellow trams are running from Middlewood to Cricket Inn Road.

My mate has just rang me from work, blue route is running ok but yellow route is running from middlewood to nunnery square depot and one of his inspectors has told him that they have not managed to get a replacement bus service sorted yet. They are trying to run as regular as they can but obviously not to the exact timetable.
If you want to travel between town and meadowhall I would say the train is the best bet if they are saying the day riders are valid on there, lately the x78 just turns up when it wants.

They are running some sort of bus service now between Cricket Inn Road and the Arena.

Edit:
There is now a shuttle bus in operation and this will be running between Nunnery Square Park and Ride and Sheffield Arena. There are 3 buses currently operating and the timing of these will depend on the traffic.

There are some units on Woodburn Road right by the tram stop. The first unit does a car repairs and that's where the fire was.

I went past on the tram at 10:15 am and the fire brigade were already there.
