I would be really grateful if you could give me your opinions on Blayton Road in Firvale.

I have been offered another house swap and would just like to get the low down on the area before I agree to view.

Ive looked on the upmystreet website and the nearest Primary School is Byron Wood so if anyone has any opinions on the school as well that would also be greatly appreciated.

I want to know if this area is nice or rough, has good / bad transport links to the city, if the area is reknown for crime etc and if any of you would choose to raise your kids there.

I dont want to make the biggest mistake of my life so your advice would really be appreciated.

Regards

Jo

I dont actually live near the area myself but I know there is/are lots of crime/problems there. There seems to be a bit of a gangs/guns culture going on. I know the local police force have targeted the area (pitsmoor - where the school is) for crackdowns on anti-social behaviour. some people who live there, to be frank, have told me their lives are a misery because of the trouble going on. It's one of the cheapest areas in sheffield and thats simply because no-one wants to live there. Personally, i wouldn't even go through the area in daylight so what does that tell you?! Its definitely rough and it may be improving slowly, but I wouldn't recommend it to anyone, especially with children! Sorry to be a downer, but i thought i should warn you!

Thanks very much for that information, its really good to know beforehand.

Like I said before I dont want to make a mistake and I certainly dont want to raise my son in a bad area.

Thanks again sblashill for your input.

I have lived in Firvale for 10 months and have seen no trouble whatsoever, I regularly walk my son to school in Pitsmoor and have so far felt safe. The area has a bad reputation, but there were far more piles of broken glass on the roadside up in Crookes than I have seen here. I know I haven't been here that long but I really like living here and the area gets a lot of bad press.

Just another point of view:thumbsup:

ps- if you can be bothered to search through my posts you will see what I have said about the area in the past.

When I was a student teacher I worked at Byron Wood school - I thought it was a fantastic place - all the staff and children were lovely and very friendly. That said, it is in an extremely disadvantaged area. Approximately 95% of the children in the school speak English as an additional language.

If anybody thinks that Blayton Road is in the Firvale area - they are very much mistaken! I lived on Blayton Road for 30 years from when I was a baby and know that it is not the case!

I recently returned to Blayton Road and, although it has changed from when I was there, it was clean and tidy and nobody suspicious was hanging about!
