Want to take the missus somewhere REALLY special, price not an issue (well it is a special occassion!). Is there anywhere in Sheffield where I can really show her that I mean business?

Two of my favourite restaurants are Nonna's on Ecclesall Road and Antibo in the West One complex.

Both do really yummy food although aren't too over the top. Anybody got any better suggestions?

Do not go to Antibo's, it is very average indeed.

I always found the Old Vicarage a bit like my great aunts place - a bit Laura Ashley chi chi, and they had to ask ME how to make a vodka martini  Never thought that the food was that special to get a Michelin Star.

Locally, you cannot beat Fischers in Baslow. There simply is not a better restaurant in 50 miles.

A little further, but not as good food (relatively), and Hazlewood Castle just off the A1/A64 near Tadcaster is a great and deeply impressive venue.

If you feel VERY flash, it can only be Winteringham Fields at Scunthorpe. The BEST restaurant in the UK. Beware though - starters are around £22! Helicopters are not compulsary, but its not a surprise to find a couple in and you might feel a bit shabby if you only came in the Mercedes :D

I recall Winteringham Fields getting an awful review a couple of years ago. I think it may have been in the Observer.

Particularly if you like fish - it seems to dominate the menu. Nice atmosphere. Good beer. Separate restaurant and bar. Real log fire. Just the sort of place you want to be snowed-in in!

I that how you found it? :)

Relax! I really am only kidding!

How does something get on the 'Good Dog' list? Do you have to have a dog, or can you just be afraid to make a mess of your room? If so, I'll let my boyfriend know! :)

Good atmosphere? Yes/No
Good staff? Yes/No

Looking at the Winteringham fields menu, I came across this....Glazed pigs trotter with confit of duck gizzards.....at a mere £32.50,so it looks like that's off the must eat list. A pretentious place no doubt filled with pretentious people.

Baldwins Omega, 0114-255 3263, Brincliffe Hill, Sheffield S119DF

We used to eat there fairly often, but don't know what it's like these days as we haven't been for a couple of years.

The mixed seafood starter is very good, and big, everything else (I thought) was quite ordinary. The actual building is interesting if not a bit gaudy.

Well I'd also vote for the Greenhead House restaurant at Chapeltown. It's doesn't seat many, everything is made on site and the food is absolutely fantastic. It's got a nice level of poshness.

Cheers

Mark

Baldwins Omega is great if you like what Dave Baldwin does, which he does very well indeed. Don't expect any choice though. The banqueting rooms are a bit tired now, but he does have the poshest (and maddest) urinals in Sheffield. :heyhey:

Would recommend the Old Vicarge, Fischers or Hassop Hall.
Great to make a night of it and stay over at Fischers or Hassop Hall - both have great rooms - HH is a little less intimate for dining though.
If money and location were no issue, I would like to try Le Manoir in Oxfordshire - anyone been there?
