Pooh. Not even one little 'what happened to Cosy', or 'wonder how it's going'...Nasty horrible people, the lot of you...
Well, I'm back now, so too bad if you thought you'd got rid of me and my constant harping on about the Sheffield Fayre.:P

The Sheffield Fayre is still on. We still need to do something Forum-wise. Please discuss...

Housey update, horror DIY whinge warning:
My house is still standing, but only just. Anyone who doesn't believe in Sod's/Murphy's Law has never attempted to 'improve' a hundred year old terraced house.
Oh yes, the slate tiles in the bathroom are lovely...pity about the leak that started in the water tank one day after finishing glueing them to the floor and right in the middle of laying the wall tiles  .
Speaking of wall tiling, does anyone else have walls that are as picturesque and rolling as the Derbyshire Dales? LOL
The cooker's beautiful...pity the gas pipes are too small to feed it properly...but at least we now have a new circuit board
Of course, when we went down to fit the new circuit board we discovered that a whole new river has appeared overnight in our cellar

At one point I was picked up and dumped in the back garden, had a beer shoved down my throat, and was asked to stop contributing as mass panic and hysteria was no longer required.

Oh but it will all look lovely...in the end

Sorry to say didn't notice you had gone. But, welcome back. Thanks for the horror stories. Tomorrow am we are having artisans of different persuasions descending on our bathroom to re-tile the walls, tile the floor, fit new shower, fit new shower cubicle and new shower pump. Don't expect to have access to bathroom for a week.

Once again, thanks for the timely stories, I'm really looking forward to the next few days!

Yeah holiday, but now back at work and already surfing this forum to catch up.

What's your next big project? on the house, sounds like a major job.

I am concentrating on garden now up until winter.

Maxt, you are doing it so right, tho - just never ever EVER try to do it yourself...
oh, and when they find all those other bits and pieces that aren't right - just tell them that if it isn't crucial, you don't want to know. And if it is can they just get on with fixing it as long-winded and detailed explanations of the problem to a stressed and anxious householder is so not going to help.
I'm sure someone will tell me off for saying that (cos of course you should always know what they're doing, if it's necessary and what itll cost, et al) but I find it quite helpful to find a large sandpile (or beer keg) to bury my head in when house things start to go wrong...

Good luck, I'm sure you'll be fine. All those nice people doing it for you...and a nice bathroom to use and appreciate in no time.

I am not jealous. I am not jealous. I am not jealous...
I'm just going for a lie down...

Mikey, tell me all about your holiday as the only one I'm going to get this year will be the ones others relive for me:(

We have a lovely garden. If you're fond of growing sinks, bathtubs, toilets, cookers, styrofoam, cardboard, bits of plaster, wood, etc. Behind all that somewhere lies my pride and joy, all my lovely plants... The neighbours on one side are trying to rent their house out and I feel so sorry for them - anyone who looks at it prob'ly think it's next door to a whole new breed of nightmare neighbours:lol:

Kitchen's next. Our neighbour's a builder and he'll be doing it, but not for a month or so. First we have to sort out the water tank and finish the bathroom. We did get a new cooker to cheer us up and keep us inspired about redoing the kitchen...but the gas pipes in the house are too small to feed it!!!

I, thankfully, can both laugh and cry at the same time. And have been doing so regularly.

I have been busy decorating the living room and have experienced some similar if not as serious problems

Strip off wallpaper down comes the wall - how fun!! So we are still in bedlam with the living room in bits about the house and a little bit of wall papering left to do. Then we have to wait a week for the carpet to come.

Still not found anyone to fit our bathroom - though we had a loverly blocked loo the other day.

It's comforting in an evil sort of way to know I'm not alone...

Try asking Maxt about bathroom installers, as it sounds like he's having his bathroom sorted by experts. Mine was installed by a friend/colleague who's an ex-plumber, and isn't looking for more work, I'm afraid. (besides, looks like we're going to keep him busy enough, lol)

Holiday - Great went to France

3 days in Paris - Very Hot and took in all the usual sites, Notre Dame, Eiffell Tower, Arc De Triomphe, Versailles, great place, there is no where on earth like Paris.

Then on to Poitou - Charente for a week chilling, but it was far from it, went canoeing down the Charente, cycling, horse riding and rock climbing and loads more, good fun, drank loads of cheap red wine £1.20 for a decent bottle, ate loads of simple food, cheese, french bread. Had a quick look at properties down there, very cheap compared to here, £40k gets you a huge farmhouse, it may need a bit of work doing to it, its tempting but there is no work away from the big cities.

Thats me done

Bathroom fitter's name is Obbery. I'll let you how good he is when we've seen the finished product, hopefully by this time next week.
