I would like to install a small freezer (around 4-5 cu ft) in our cellar. Having looked in Currys and Comet I have learned that ordinary freezers should not be installed where the temperature is likely to fall below 10C for long periods. In such circumstances the available information says that freezers with twin compressors should be used. However, the staff in the stores had no idea what this meant and could not recommend a sutable freezer.

Since our cellar will probably fall below 10C if there's a lengthy cold spell, can anyone advise whether this advice is sound and, if it is, what make/model of freezer I should be looking for?

Thanks

I've kept normal freezers in outside garages without any problems.

It's not freezers that are usually the problem, it's FRIDGEFREEZERS as they cool the freezer from the same compressor and thermostat as the fridge - hence the 'dual compressor' statement - one for the fridge and one for the freezer

So - Top Tip - if you accidentally leave the freezer door open, and need to cool it again - open the fridge door for a bit :)
