Hi all,

I will be travelling monday to friday from Firshill, Sheffield to Chaddesden, Derby.

This includes:

97 or 20 Bus to sheffield city centre
Train from sheffield to derby
120 (BlackCat/Trent) Bus from derby city centre to chaddesden
and back again.....

I was wondering if anyone knew the cheapest tickets to purchase (on a weekly or monthly basis) for this journey?

A cheap ticket that would allow me free travel between all these areas would be fantastic but I'm not holding much hope for that....

Thanks in advance for any help anyone can provide..

You could get a season ticket for the train too, but I don't know how much that would be.

Where's Andy C when you need him? :D

I am assuming you are travelling at peak time (before 9am), in which case you will be looking at a bus pass for Firstbus, then a season ticket for the train, then a bus pass for Trent Barton Buses.

I'm sure you are well up on prices for First bus in Sheffield, so I won't dwell on that.

Train Sheffield to Derby you can get a season ticket in 7 day or Month versions, then any period you want between a month and a year. If you buy an annual season ticket you effectively get 12 months for the price of 11, as well as a few additional special offers such as free travel to London at weekends. Prices are available from National Rail Enquiries on 08457 484950. A season ticket is valid for unlimited travel between Sheffield and Derby by both Virgin and Midland Mainline services.

For the Trent Barton bus I suggest you check out their website - www.trentbarton.co.uk

If you are leaving Sheffield after 9am then a daily Derbyshire Wayfarer pass may be a better deal - £7.50 and is valid on all buses and trains in Derbyshire from 9am to close of service.

By the way, you'll find bus route 5 is more frequent than the Black Cat. Also note that Trent Barton aren't the only buses to Chaddesden - Arriva also run a load - www.arrivabus.co.uk .

Also I've checked online and a monthly season from Sheffield to Derby is £180.10, Standard Class. (This is a calendar month, for example 24th January to 23rd February).

Wow!

Thanks for the great response!

AndyC - where exactly did you find the pricing for the monthly season ticket online? I must have missed something obvious when I looked earlier.

I'm still living in derby at the moment and working there, I just wanted to see how much it would cost if I planned to move back to sheffield. It isnt quite as bad as I expected and it would be enough while I spend a few months looking for a job in sheffield also.

Thanks again all!

Online season ticket sales is offered on the First Transpennine Express website, with this service provided by TheTrainline. It can sell monthly or longer season tickets for pretty much any train journey in Britain, not just Transpennine ones.

Anyway, I have a bigger list of season prices here for you now:

Just another nugget of information, this isn't widely known, but on day return tickets you can add bus travel onto the train ticket. For an extra £2.20 you can get a days unlimited travel on any bus in Sheffield, and for £1 extra you can have a days unlimited travel on the Trent Barton local bus network.

Sadly this facility isn't available in conjunction with season tickets.
