Hiya!

I am unable to hear any sound on youtube and Google Videos since the last one week or so. Everything else seems to be fine. I mean, I can hear sound when I play MP3s, and when I watch MPEG/WMV files, and also when I watch trailers from movie rental sites. This seems to indicate that streaming videos are not the problem.

Then why is is only a problem with YouTube and Google Videos?

One more thing - The volume control icon on the bottom right of the screen has also disappeared  but I can still get to it from Start->Programs->Accessories

Has anyone faced this problem? Any advice???

Easy to solve:

Start -> Settings -> Control Panel -> Spunds & Multimedia

Click the checkbox at the bottom of the properties dialogue box (Show volume control on the taskbar).

To resolve the no sound in youtube, I'd first download the k-lite codec pack (mentioned repeatedly on these boards) and install that.

Yep!

It's those spunds that mess things up every time!
