CHEERS JULIE:help: sanman 10-10-2007, 16:19 It depends what you're after and if you're willing to travel. My favourite is an hours travel down the motorway http://www.wharfaquatics.co.uk/ . They have a large range and they are very well cared for. Angilaruk 10-10-2007, 17:07 There's a number of great aquatic shops out there, the newest being Fish Inc at Handsworth (near Asda) It's a bit of a pig to find the first time, but after that you'll be in regular. The guy who owns it is really good too and offers great advice. Of course there is Sheffield Aquatics near Hillsbrough, Elm Lane, at Elm Lane LOL. Theres a great place at the garden centre in Bamforth. We go there for our Discus and again, are great people who will help you out. I guess it all depends what you are looking for? HTH Angi babyboom 10-10-2007, 18:54 Wharf aquatics at Pinxton and Derwent Koi and Tropicals are excellent, there is also Sheffield Aquatics on Langsett Road. Rainbow Aquatics at Mexborough is also worth a run out to. I forgot there is also Aqua Hobby near Heely City Farm/ Angilaruk 10-10-2007, 23:53 Yup As Babyboom says, there's a whole lot out there, we haven't been to them all, but plan to ....... now, where did I hide that Visa card??? *Smiles* Angi Wharf aquatics at Pinxton and Derwent Koi and Tropicals are excellent, there is also Sheffield Aquatics on Langsett Road. He has some of the healthiest fish ive seen for years ANDIM68 11-10-2007, 23:17 So can someone give us a clue to where the one near asda is please? TIA Angilaruk 11-10-2007, 23:57 Just so happen to have one of their fliers on the cork board. Unit 3, Finchwell Close, S13 9DF (closed Tuesdays) 10am - 6pm Go up past Asda, turn left at Finchwell Road, then 4th right. An industrial estate, not the expected place to find it, but it's there. Hmmm, I think I should be on commission LOL *Smiles* Angi So can someone give us a clue to where the one near asda is please? TIA lisajaynec 13-10-2007, 18:50 Hi We are new to keeping tropical fish and have had so much support from Aqua hobby maps.google.co.uk 100 Prospect Rd Heeley, Sheffield, S2 3EN 0114 258 2142 We had new tank syndrome and they have been marvelous with us. They open til 7pm Tuesday to Saturday and til 4pm Sunday and Monday. Pleased to say all fish and tank now healthy Lisa cosywolf 13-10-2007, 21:24 Lisajaynec beat me to it - they have been incredibly supportive at Aqua Hobby in Heeley, and I'd recommend them in an instant. All their good advice and healthy fish are the reason we've done so well. kaymarie 21-11-2008, 17:27 Ive been to fish inc and ive gotta say it was great but id agree, it did take some finding lol!! Another one to try would be wentworth gardens (barnsley) - they've recently refurbed and i was well impressed although they dont have the time to have a chat with you and they are stupidly busy at the weekends. Ive always found the chappie at Elm Lane really helpful and theres never any sick or poorly fish in the tanks. I was dissapointed at the fish over at Langsett Road -sheffield aquatics. The fish, especially the discus look black and poorly and the tropical tanks are less than sparkling (well, thats just my opinion though, sorry guys!!). The newly managed pets are pals over at Chapeltown are disasterous - dead fish in tanks, kept together wrong, fish eating fish - if there was a fish RSPCA they need calling into this one!! Anyone got any more hidden gems??? :0) babyboom 21-11-2008, 17:44 For plenty of fish advice etc there is a local Aquarist Society - Sheaf Valley AS, the website is www.svas.co.uk babyboom 21-11-2008, 17:47 For the record if anyone is concerned about the practices of any fish shops, you call the Sheffield Council and ask for the department who look after pet shop licensing. They have to monitor and make sure that the shops look after the fish correctly etc, pretty much in the same way the environmental health do food saftey checks kind of thing. |
