View Full Version : Veolia buses (A1) problems
kieran_grund 10-10-2007, 11:39 I work on the Europa Complex next to Sheffield Airport. In order to get there each day i have to catch the A1 veolia bus service to Rotherham, which does not bother me in the slightest.
Im not the biggest fan of public transport, but i think that comes from owning a car and now i dont!
I usually start work at 8am and catch the 7:35 bus from the city centre, which is near enough always on time.
I now start work at 9am, for tuesday and today the 8:35am bus hasn't turned up.
I know there is roadworks on parkway, and i know there is road works just before you get to the airport, and i expect it to be late.
But it seems the next bus to arrive is 9:05am bus, which is next is on time. It seems like they just scrap the 8:35am bus without telling anyone, and is the main comuter run for about 30 of us to get to work for 09:00. This happens on a regualr basis and you can easily expect 5 buses that i catch in the week not to turn up.
I'll be sending them an email, but just wondering if anyone else has the same problem as me on that service?
dane-katie 10-10-2007, 11:52 I work at FSC next to airport and im sick to my back teeth of complaining to them ive complained to the head office, now when i rang the other night they gave me a tel number of local office 01909 550868 head office is so rude not rang local office yet but they need to sort these buses out, from rude bus drivers, bus drivers smoking, never having change even when you only have a fiver to never turning up or near enough crashing the bus they are a disgrace.
I suggest any written or emailed complaint is copied to SYPTE as service A1 is run under contract to SYPTE, who fund it's existence. If the PTE think Veolia are not performing up to contractual standards, they may lose the contract!
djelibeybi 10-10-2007, 13:06 When I worked on Europa Link, I used to use the A1 service from Sheffield Interchange.
It's a nightmare as it only runs once every half hour and arrives at Europa Link either on the hour or half hour. As this coincided with my start times, I'd always try to catch the A1 before that, so in effect, I'd get to work half hour before my shift started.
One morning I had to ring work to let my manager know that not only had the bus I'd normally catch not appeared, but the one which should get me to work at the same time as my shift starting was late too.
One winter's night, several of us were stood out at a stop on Europa Link, waiting to go back into Sheffield. The wind was blowing a hooley and it was snowing. I arrived at the stop just after 6pm in order to catch the one arriving just before half past. The people at the stop said no buses had been past since 5:30pm.
Someone rang someone to do with the buses, maybe the Interchange or SYPTE, I don't know, and was informed that one A1 had broken down, one had caught fire, and another was caught in traffic. At any one time, there are four A1's operating: two en route in either direction, and two at Sheffield and Rotherham respectively.
By 7pm, we were freezing cold, an A1 with "Not In Service" on it had driven past towards Sheffield without stopping (obviously) and I rang my brother to come pick me up. I promised him I'd wait at the bus stop for him even if the bus arrived as he was having to drive for atleast 20 minutes to get to me.
A bus finally arrived at 7:20pm, and my brother arrived to collect me about 5 minutes after that.
Many of the companies on Europa Link and along the A1's route subsidised that service and bus shelters for their staff. To me, until I managed to buy a cheap car, the A1 was an essential service into Sheffield Interchange and to my place of work.
I believe our problem was resolved as many of us complained to our employer who spoke with SYPTE on our behalf.
kieran_grund 11-10-2007, 10:00 I sent Veolia transport an email yesterday, and also copied it to SYPTE.
When i finished work last night, the 6:01pm bus back to sheffield was 30mins late.
And the 9:05 bus this morning didn't show up, so i think another email wil be on its way!

its smee 11-10-2007, 21:35 I was on the 8.30 bus on Tuesday so i know that it did come, although admittedly not until 8.45. The roadworks on Europa Link were so bad that they were tailing back all the way past Morrisons from the Airport and so held up the buses going in both directions. Therefore this bus didn't reach the airport until almost 9.30.
I admit the bus service is terrible, leaving the airport either on the hour or half hour is no good and most people have to wait 25 minutes after they leave work for the next bus to turn up as they will have just missed one. (And don't even get me started on the buses aound Christmas time when they can be missing for an hour at a time after getting stuck in traffic at Meadowhall)
I agree on the bad standard of driving on these buses also, the drivers in the morning don't seem too bad except the one that spends the whole journey talking on his phone and turns up late as he hasn't finished his conversation. The drivers in the afternoon all seem to drive really fast, talk on their phones or in at least two cases take the completely wrong route to meadowhall from Sheffield (are bus routes not there to be followed, can they just go whichever way they feel now?) One driver in particular twice last week drove virtually over the roundabout outside Morrisons instead of around it, hitting the kerb several times while he conducted a conversation with his mate stood at the front of the bus, barely looking at the road. It is getting to the stage where i think twice about catching this bus when certain drivers are working as i'm sure it would be safer walking home down the middle of the parkway!!!
