View Full Version : Stupid van driver- Hanover Way roundabout this morning
theripsaw 10-10-2007, 09:40 Next time you break down on a roundabout dumbo, try rolling the van back 10 feet back off the roundabout. That way you dont cause so much gridlock and danger.
Well done to the traffic cops who when they could have turned up and towed the van out of the way within 2 mins, were no doubt admirably policing bus lanes.

Rolling Pushing a van can take it's toll on the old Joints!
Did you get out of your vehicle and offer to help?

Clearly not. Best just sit there and feel grouchy then.

thats not a nice way to talk to halibut, he was only asking you a question, no need to be abusive
Minesadouble 10-10-2007, 10:02 Actually for once, I think Halibut isn't being abusive - just asking the question ...(for once!!!!!)
Actually for once, I think Halibut isn't being abusive - just asking the question ...(for once!!!!!)
Whaddya mean 'for once'!
You're right, I was just asking a question - I mean, if someone's broken down and they're holding up the traffic there are essentially two ways to respond - get angry and red faced, post on the Forum calling the unfortunate driver 'dumbo' - or actually offering to help.............
alchresearch 10-10-2007, 10:06 Considering the van driver will either not be reading this forum, or still out driving, I fail to see the benefit of these 'rant' threads.
Next time you break down on a roundabout dumbo, try rolling the van back 10 feet back off the roundabout. That way you dont cause so much gridlock and danger.
Oh for sure. I hope you pointed this out to him as you drove past, by beeping loudly on your horn whilst gesticulating wildly and swearing.

Yeah, or, you know, solving murders and all that other unimportant stuff.

So you didn't offer to help then.

Because vans are really easy to steer, brake and push backwards at the same time on your own aren't they. I find that people waving their arms and shouting in passing cars makes the job even easier as well. What an idiot this van driver was. :)
Traffic cops solve murders now? :)

Forgive slight creative license there to stretch a point a little.
theripsaw 10-10-2007, 10:21 I was getting too late for my train by the time I got to him, and had neither the time or the inclination to help such a fool. I will however offer to pay for his labotomy as a gesture of goodwill.
Minesadouble 10-10-2007, 10:27 I once broke down outside a pub ....My alarm was going off and everything was flashing what a nightmare ....A very nice:rolleyes: middle aged guy sat outside the pub boozin at the time ...Approached me and said '' You wanna get that scrapped ***** stupid alarm and car blah blah blah .....etc etc etc ''
So I lifted the bonnet - Pulled the plug for the alarm to stop it ...Walked off up the road home ......Took a few deep breaths
then went back to the pub ....and gave this chap a piece of my mind - Without swearing or being agressive I slammed him verbally and made him feel about 2ft tall in front of his wife and family - The only bad words I said was you rude arrogant little man .....
I was the winner ....He was a Pr*ck :hihi:
People are so quick to have a go when people break down yet won't help ....
When people break down it's not neccesarily their fault and having a choice of Breaking Down and causing a disturbance to others ....or not ......They would rather not !!! Get it !:D
Phew Glad I got that in .........

1. I can assure that none were 'policing bus lanes' this morning.
2. 'Traffic cops' don't tow away broken down vehicles. The Police can arrange recovery wagons to do this, if someone had phoned to tell them about this matter (ie:- yourself per chance?)
3. I'm glad that I've missed your previous 999 posts.
There was once an OAP who was struggling with heavy bags of shopping, on the bus.
As she handed her money over to the bus driver, she dropped her purse, and all the money fell on the floor. Because she was elderly she had trouble picking up her money.
Did you know, it took this OAP, nearly 5 minutes to pick up the pennys. She then, moved down the bus, however she was unable to sit down, as no one gave up their seat.
MAkes you wonder doesn't it? OAP in distress, no one helps. scary

1) You cant assure me of anything
2) That seems rather typically bizzare. A simple tow rope, clip it on both vehicles and tow for 50 yards to a place of lesser obstruction- 2 mins. Or, phone and await a recovery vehicle- God knows how long.
3) Oh.

Are you some sort of dumpling. Is it the lads fault he broke down on a roundabout,i think not.I dont suppose on the off chance, you've tried to push a van on your own.Its not an easy job.

i wonder if he had broken down would he come on here complaining that he had held the traffic up?

1. Really? Take it from someone in the know.
2. They're not allowed to because of Insurance/Health & Safety Regulation reasons. Of course, you could have helped your fellow frustrated motorists by making that call. Oh, sorrry, I forgot, you'd got your train to catch, hadn't you?

That would be lobotomy. And the other folks on here are right - there may have been many reasons why he wasn't able to move the van himself (and then again there might not) but it would have been much easier for him if someone had stopped to help. And there's not much use in having a pop at the traffic police for not turning up straight away so you weren't late for your train.
BasilRathbon 10-10-2007, 13:44 Has this thread turned into Aesops Fables?
There was once a Mother crab who said to her son "Why do you walk sideways like that? You should always walk straight forward with your toes turned out."
"Show me how to walk, mother dear," answered the little Crab obediently, "I want to learn."
So the old Crab tried and tried to walk straight forward. But she could only walk sideways, like her son. And when she wanted to turn her toes out she tripped and fell on her nose. In the end the only way she could walk straightforward was to drink two bottles of vodka. Suitably inebriated, she succeeded in walking forwards but died later that night when she choked on her own vomit.
And the moral of this story is; do not tell others how to act unless you can set a good example.
seanmorley01 10-10-2007, 14:27 How about we set up a poll for the forum to vote if we think 'theripsaw' is a ARROGANT d**k? :D
irenewilde 10-10-2007, 17:29 Slight hijack.......
Been wondering since I read theripsaw's calm and rational message just why he thought a lobotomy for the poor soul stuck on the roundabout would be a good idea. Went to Wikipedia to have a look at exactly what lobotomies were supposed to achieve - take a look for yourselves - you'll have a headache at the end of it. I can almost guarantee you'll cringe at least once while you're reading....
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Lobotomy
And as they seemed to be used to calm people down maybe theripsaw is the one we ought to be paying for to have one...

Valid point though about two months ago the tail back at the silver blades rounabout on queens road was back to beyond the netto retail park.
A car was broken down in the offside lane about 200 yards from the roundabout , the chaos was bad with people waiting to go past on the near side . I went on the other side of the road parked my car went over to the loan driver and asked if they had tried to move it "No its too heavy for me" we there fore pushed it on the other side of the road and cleared the highway JOB DONE
traffic flowing again.
How many others had gone past and could have done that ?
If you or any one else had helped this morning the situation would have eased it appears that yet agian its another case waiting for some one else to do something.

If this was a large van then pushing it back on your own and trying to jump up the step to stop it b4 hitting another car aint easy on your own, next time go and give him a hand or take a chill pill and wait.
Sheffieldfor 10-10-2007, 19:28 From their pictures they cant even tell a bus lane from a normal lane!!
It's so stupid, take a look!
Thankfully it wasn't on Park Square roundabout. I once broke down on there. (on that little up hilly bit just after the Parkway turn off)
I was in the car on my own, as it was chuggin' and dying, 'shouting at it' and acting worse(more dramatically) than Dennis Weaver did knowing a killer truck was behind him in 'DUEL'. :gag::hihi:

Kthebean 11-10-2007, 21:12 We once broke down on the uni roundabout and our hazards weren't working. People kept driving by shouting PUT YOUR BLOODY HAZARD LIGHTS ON....yeah...great. Only one person stopped to help.
I really feel for the driver.
That particular morning, I drove up to the side of the van thinking that the driver had barged out to get across the roundabout. Gesticulations from the lady blocked by my car in the inner lane (might I say she was genuinely polite) made me realise what had happened. I just wish I was more charitable in such incidences, and rather than thinking poor sod, I got out and helped, because I really do not envy the poor person.
If you are fortunate enough to never have had a car problem/made a driving error that has held someone up, then good luck to you. We've had a couple of moments (my very first post on this forum was regarding car issues), and rather than worrying about our inconvienince and cost, we have always been embarressed and concerned about the effect on others...why?? Because we are such a mardy agrressive nation of drivers!!!
I think work pressure has alot to do with it. Companys are forever rushing the work force around faster to feed their greed.

Livewirex 11-10-2007, 22:39 Some years ago my wife was driving her Brand new car (Less than a month old) on South Road at Walkley when the steering wheel came off in her hands and the car slewed across the road ending up just about blocking the road, It was around She hit nothing and no one was injured, But she did get lots of abuse from passing motorists although none stopped to help. Anyone ever tried to move a car that is at right angles, on a main road at rush hour, with no steering wheel? Any woman ever tried to refit a steering wheel without help? Who judges people without knowing the reasons why? Perhaps something similar happened here, who are we to judge what had caused the van to be there?

quote =(littlem).
Id just like to add that the van driver gestured at me seconds after i nearly slammed into his van, to see if i was ok; some plank in a sports car decided he was going to pull round him just as i came round the roundabout and he cut me up - i had to slam my brakes on to avoid hitting the berk, and narrowly missed the broken down van. my 3 kids were seriously frightened, and it shook me up too ... the van driver looked horrified, and gestured to me was i ok.
btw ... it was a bloody big van to expect one bloke to get out and push back :D ... and the speed the morons were flying round him, i dont blame him for staying put.
im surprised no one was seriously hurt.

You're lucky Halibut hasnt pointed out that you were obviously driving too fast if you nearly slammed into a stationary object.
Wasnt a Porsche was it- that sports car?..
It wasnt a particularly big van, and being on an incline could have probably just let off the handbrake and rolled back.
2001louise 12-10-2007, 09:21 when will everybody think that theripsaw is always right. like he think he is, lets face it, he was running late for his train and couldnt be bothered to help the guy, only later does he come on here and pull the poor guy to pieces.
in january i lost control of my car going round a corner due to weather conditions and i was only doing 15mph round the corner, i ended up nearly hitting the crash barrier on st marys gate opp waitroses, over steered to much, did a 360 in the middle of the road and ended up on the crash barrier on the other side of the road, luckily no one else was involved, but one lady drove up to me as i was blocking one lane of the road, she asked me if i had a mobile, i said yes, then she drove off, luckily for me, my knight in shining armour came in a red fire van, he put on his blue flashing lights to warn drivers off the accident. he phoned for an ambulance and waited with me till the police and the ambulance arrived.and whilst we was waiting all we got was the beeping of peoples car horns, i was in a state of shock.
never did get to thank my knight.
so THANK YOU

No, what you wanted to say was if you lose control of a car due to weather conditions, then you were not driving according to the conditions. 15mph was obviously too fast.
Thats what you'd normally say if you didnt have a rapport going with 2001

Another mind - reader! Extraordinary. Actually I don't comment on motoring threads a great deal, being a cyclist and user of public transport. I don't know enough about Louise, her skills, or the conditions to make a proper judgement - so I am being charitable towards Louise in making the assumption that she's a careful driver.
She's given no reason for me to think otherwise and she sounds like a nice person. Besides, the only reason I joined this discussion anyway was that I was taken aback by your selfish attitude - late for the station, calling the other driver 'dumbo', not being prepared to help.

She's given no reason for me to think otherwise and she sounds like a nice person. Besides, the only reason I joined this discussion anyway was that I was taken aback by your selfish attitude - late for the station, calling the other driver 'dumbo', not being prepared to help.
well said halibut, theripsaw would probably been swearing and shouting at me if he had bumped into me on the day.he does sound very selfish with his attitude, and thinks he should be the only one on the road

Sounds more like a girl racer to me
that was the first day i bought the car, i now stick to the speed limits and i dont speed as you dont get there any quicker with speed, with the job i do, i CANNOT and WILL NOT risk the lives of the children i drive to and from seeing their parents, so make your assumptions else where and learn the full facts before shooting your mouth off
It's so easy to say that.
Like the pic of the daughter by the way :)
Thanks, she's beautiful aint she :)
it was near the place where you get the chinese fireworks, if it was me was it a black golf you saw
Nope, wasn't you then...must be a lot of mad ass boy/girl racers out there hammering round @ 15mph, keep the kids off the street with people like you around :hihi:

When you two have quite finished blowing smoke up each others arses perhaps we can all be friends? :)
I forgive (!) the van driver concerned & apologise to everyone else who has been offended by my attitude. Now, whens the next Forum meet anyone?

im not knocking skodas, and i am with the times love.
and yes i agree this is getting childish, so lets all kiss and make up.
Next time you break down on a roundabout dumbo, try rolling the van back 10 feet back off the roundabout. That way you dont cause so much gridlock and danger.
Well done to the traffic cops who when they could have turned up and towed the van out of the way within 2 mins, were no doubt admirably policing bus lanes.
Vans are transport of the devil !
Considering the van driver will either not be reading this forum, or still out driving, I fail to see the benefit of these 'rant' threads.
We're all reading it so if we break dow.....
Where are the mods when you need them..
Couldn't agree more...

Personally, knowing what you mean by this post (Don't worry mods, i'm not jumping to conclusions...it's a conversation that happened between us in the past) I think that was just sick, I'd personally like to arrange a meet with you and discuss this in a more adult fashion but you are one of them cowards who hides behind a monitor aren't you...
Sicko...
MOD: I think this thread has run it's course. The op has apologised for his original comments and people are now getting silly. If anyone thinks this should be re-opened then please contact the help desk. Thanks.
