Ive never seen her, but find it strange that she was spotted in The Peacock pub after she disappeared. She may be depressed as she worked in a hospice.

Yes she does look good for 56, she looks more like 45/47.

This is really strange. Noticed the police hellis buzzing over Stannington on friday/satuday, i hope and pray that nothing sinsnter has happened here - it has made me slightly wary about walking round on my own - i normally run round the catty lane/20 fields area in the evening, i will not be doing this on my own for a while. Just look out for yourselves -people in Stannington.

"glamorous nurse"!

I know, and the fact that she looks 'good for her age' is relevent how exactly?

kel_89
10-10-2007, 13:14
It's absolutely bizarre.

Possibilities :

* She's been taken.
* She's wandered off on her own accord.

But just, why? In both possibilities?

sheff_minx

I know, and the fact that she looks 'good for her age' is relevent how exactly?

I guess because people should be looking out for a woman who looks younger than her stated age of 56??

barmyowls
10-10-2007, 21:43
shes 52 not 56!!

Noodle
10-10-2007, 21:51
She may be depressed as she worked in a hospice.

 I volunteer at a hospice and it's the least depressing place I've ever worked. People are sweet and kind - both the patients and staff. Humbling experience.

I'm afraid that her body was found on Riggs High Road a mile or so outside the village yesterday morning (her family are aware). For your info Pattricia, she was from the Wood Lane area.

It really is worrying.

I'm 18 and have a 14 year old brother, and even i'm wary of my brother going out for a walk round the village now and i'm the most happy-go-lucky, optimistic person ever.

I just hope (if it is not a self-inflicted event) that they catch whoever did this.

EDIT : Don't know if the following link will work but this is the road.

http://www.streetmap.co.uk/newmap.srf?x=429105&y=388185&z=1&sv=429105,388185&st=4&ar=Y&mapp=newmap.srf&searchp=newsearch.srf

It's the same road as the High Riggs garden centre isn't it?! Strangely enough it's owned by a friend of a friend!

At this stage we are not aware of all the facts and so should not automatically assume that foul play was involved. Whatever the circumstances, I feel great sympathy for the family of the deceased.

A HUSBAND whose wife vanished from their Sheffield home over a week ago found her body while searching for her.
Barbara Robinson, aged 52, was last seen alive by husband Keith, 74, when he dropped her off for a weekly prayer meeting at Christ Church in Stannington on September 28.

The meeting was cancelled and she never returned home.

Despite extensive police searches around Stannington, involving sniffer dogs and a helicopter, Barbara's body lay undiscovered until Keith and another relative spotted her.

They were searching woods off Riggs High Road, on the outskirts of the village, on Saturday. Her body was lying at the foot of a bank leading down from the main road.

A post mortem examination proved inconclusive, so further tests have been ordered to try to establish the exact cause of death.

Barbara, a senior matron at a hospice near Manchester, worked as a nurse in all Sheffield's major hospitals over the years.

Her disappearance led to her family issuing a number of appeals for information on her whereabouts, and last Friday they admitted that they were beginning to 'fear the worst'. Her disappearance was totally out of character and they were desperate for news.

Det Insp Sean McMahon, who oversaw the post mortem, said there was nothing suspicious about her death: "There was no third party involvement in her death, nothing suspicious, no foul play.

"Mrs Robinson was discovered when her husband and his son were out searching, which they have done every day.

"She was discovered around threequarters of a mile outside Stannington. There is a fence and stile which we believe she used to get off the road. From this point there is a long steep slope, and it was at the bottom of this that her body was found.

"I can only imagine what Mr Robinson is going through after having his wife missing for that length of time and then he himself finding her."

Well- this has been really shocking! the body was found literally 300 yards from my house it has given me the heebijeebies big time.

saturday mornin I was lied in bed and I heard all these police cars and fire engines racing up the road- and for some reason I just KNEW it was something to do with the woman gone missing.

Anyway, later on in the morning we went for a jog up the road and I spotted a copper in the distance just up near the little woods and then we noticed it was taped off like a crime scene and loads of ppl were sat in cars giving statements etc- so we got a pretty good idea it was something sinister.

Everyone who lives up the top of Stannington was thinking the same thing- then on sunday a mate of my dads told him that the womans husband had phoned him saturday mornin just before i herd all the sirens and said ''Joe we've found her''.......my god its awful.... so wierd though, no one will know until they have checked the body further I guess! anyway- My thoughts are with the family

Can I just remind people that a little sensitivity and respect goes a long way?

Please bear in mind that the friends and family of this lady could be reading this and post accordingly.

If you have any real information about what happened between this lady going missing and her being found by her husband then talk to the police. The correct place for that information is not on a forum.

I'm sorry too, I have never met Ms Robinson, but being a Stannington person, I send my regrets to the family, and I hope that it was an accident rather than foul play, so others can be safe.

Sad indeed. I did not know they had found a body until just now but then we don't take the star. I saw the police (or Community Wardens ) stopping people in the village last Thursday )1 week after she went missing).

There was a poster up in the Crown and Glove and I think (can't be sure) that it said she had been there that night but I may be wrong on this point.

the-lioness
18-10-2007, 14:53
Can't be sure but I think someone I was with in there the following Monday said so. I didn't read the whole poster myself but just saw the bit about a missing woman.

oh right- its really un-nerving knowing it happened just up the road! might be a while before I walk round catty lane again :(

To be fair I don't think we should be worried until concrete evidence either way has been released.

Be cautious, but not worried.
