Hi

I really hope someone can help me on this. The problem is that i updated my computer last night since then i can play any type of music and windows media player keeps displaying the following message

"Windows Media Player cannot play the file because there is a problem with your sound device. There might not be a sound device installed on your computer, it might be in use by another program, or it might not be functioning properly."

I tried the Windows update site to find the driver needed but ot no avail. I'm pretty sure the name of the company for which I need the driver for is called "Silicone".

Could anyone tell me where I can download this from etc.

Thanks

You need to get the sound driver software for your motherboard, or soundcard if you have a seperate soundcard.
You should have one which you got with the card/motherboard.

If you haven't got a disk, then you need to identify the exact sound chip you are using, and then you can download it from the manufacturer, easy.

Obviously if you are just using a plugged in soundcard like a soundblaster, than that's even easier to download.

Is it just your windows media player that wont work, and other sounds are displayed perfectly, or is there no sound atall?

Do you mean you updated your pc through windows update?. If so you can just perform a system restore and take your system back a couple of days.
This is only a quick fix as you will need to install any critical updates again when you have found out what was causing the problem.
